Gonsolin (elbow) threw a three-inning, 45-pitch live batting practice session in Arizona on Friday, Jaylon T. Thompson of The Kansas City Star reports.

Gonsolin, who underwent Tommy John surgery with an internal brace in his right elbow in August 2025, inked a one-year deal with the Royals on Thursday as his recovery nears its final stages. Provided the right-hander doesn't experience any renewed discomfort, Kansas City hopes to send him on a rehab assignment soon. In 86 career outings with the Dodgers, Gonsolin posted a 3.34 ERA and 1.08 WHIP across 411.2 innings, though injuries have been a recurring issue for the 32-year-old.

Springs (hip) allowed three runs (one earned) on five hits and no walks with four strikeouts over three innings with Single-A Stockton on Friday.

Springs returned to game action for the first time since landing on the injured list Aug. 4 due to right hip discomfort, throwing 41 of 59 pitches for strikes. It remains to be seen if he'll make another rehab appearance before returning to the active roster, though the southpaw's poor results this year make it far from a guarantee that he'll reclaim a spot in the starting rotation. In 22 starts this season, Springs has posted a 3-11 record with a 6.17 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 88:44 K:BB across 108 innings.

The Rays recalled Boyle from Triple-A Durham on Saturday.

Boyle last pitched in the majors April 8 and has since accumulated a 9.13 ERA and 2.14 WHIP over 47.1 innings at Triple-A. He'll reclaim a spot in the big-league bullpen despite his poor performance, though he'll almost certainly be limited to low-leverage work. Chris Roycroft was optioned to Durham in a corresponding move.

The Blue Jays recalled Tiedemann from Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday.

Tiedemann only recently returned to game action after undergoing Tommy John surgery in July 2024, with his time on the shelf getting extended due to setbacks with his elbow and neck. Over three innings for Buffalo this season he's given up four earned runs across three innings with a 4:2 K:BB. Despite his shaky performance in the minors, the 23-year-old southpaw will report to the Blue Jays to provide bullpen depth, replacing Chase Lee.

Chandler (6-8) picked up the win in Friday's 8-4 victory over the Red Sox, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out five.

The right-hander blanked Boston for four frames before running into a bit of trouble in the fifth, but the Pirates had already built a 4-0 lead at that point. Chandler has won three straight starts and given up three earned runs or fewer in six straight, posting a 2.56 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 29:12 K:BB through 31.2 innings over that latter stretch. He'll look to keep rolling in his next outing, which is set to come at home next week against the Tigers.

Bennett (7-6) took the loss Friday, giving up four runs on five hits and a walk over four innings as the Red Sox fell 8-4 to the Pirates. He struck out six.

The rookie left-hander gave up a solo shot early to Rafael Flores, but the wheels really came off in the fourth when four of the first five Pittsburgh batters rattled hits off Bennett, including a two-run double by Esmerlyn Valdez. Bennett has been tagged for at least three runs in five straight trips to the mound, stumbling to a 5.67 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 23:8 K:BB in 27 innings over that stretch. He'll try to turn things around in his next start, which lines up to come at home next week against the Diamondbacks.

Burns (14-2) picked up the win Friday, scattering four hits over seven scoreless innings in a 1-0 victory over the Marlins. He struck out eight without walking a batter.

Matched up against Sandy Alcantara in a duel of the team's respective aces that lived up to its billing, Burns rose to the occasion and fired 62 of 93 pitches for strikes while not even allowing a runner to get into scoring position until the seventh inning, when Otto Lopez led off the frame with a single and stole second base before being stranded. The quality start was Burns' 11th of the year, and his 14 wins have him tied for second in the majors with Boston's Sonny Gray, one back of Philly's Cristopher Sanchez. Burns will look to stay locked in for his next start, which is scheduled to come at home next week against the Cardinals.

Alcantara (13-7) took the loss Friday as the Marlins were downed 1-0 by the Reds, allowing one run on three hits and four walks over seven innings. He struck out out.

The veteran right-hander didn't have his best stuff or best command, but Alcantara still put together his fourth straight quality start and MLB-leading 19th of the season on 103 pitches (67 strikes), only to have Chase Burns be just a little bit stingier opposite him. Alcantara was also a little unlucky -- he saw his scoreless streak end at 25.2 innings when Eugenio Suarez dumped a ball into left field that Heriberto Hernandez badly misplayed, allowing Tyler Stephenson to lumber home from first base as the ball rolled to the warning track on what was officially ruled a double. Alcantara has become a throwback workhorse of late, lasting at least seven innings in six of eight starts since the beginning of July while compiling a 1.80 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 46:14 K:BB through 55 frames. He'll look to get more offensive support in his next outing, which is set to come on the road next week in Philadelphia.

Liberatore (5-10) took the loss Friday, allowing two runs on two hits and one walk over 5.1 innings as the Cardinals fell 3-0 to the Cubs. He struck out six.

The 26-year-old southpaw put together one of his better performances of the season while tossing 58 of 95 pitches for strikes, but the St. Louis offense got completely shut down as Clay Holmes took a perfect game into the sixth inning. Liberatore hasn't gotten into the win column since before the All-Star break, going 0-4 over his last five starts with a 5.33 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 28:8 K:BB in 25.1 innings. He'll try to snap that streak in his next outing, which lines up to come on the road next week in Cincinnati.

Cecconi (arm) underwent an MRI that confirmed no structural damage, MLB.com reports.

That's good news for the Cecconi, who felt an issue during a relief appearance Aug. 6. The right-hander is expected to resume throwing in the coming days.
