The Astros will recall Gordon from Triple-A Sugar Land on Wednesday to make his major-league debut against the Royals, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Gordon is off to a stellar start this season with Sugar Land, collecting a 2.55 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 43:8 K:BB over 42.1 innings covering eight starts. The left-hander could make additional starts with the big club after Wednesday's outing, as the Astros plan to temporarily maintain a six-man rotation amidst a stretch of the schedule without off days.

Mathews (shoulder) will make a rehab start this week with the Cardinals' Florida Complex League affiliate, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Mathews resumed a throwing program in late April as he bounces back from mild left shoulder soreness, and he's now ready to pitch in games. The left-hander will eventually move back up to Triple-A Memphis, where he posted a 6.10 ERA and 7:15 K:BB over his first 10.1 innings before getting injured.

Hancock (1-2) allowed seven runs on eight hits and four walks while striking out five over five innings to take the loss Monday versus the Yankees.

Hancock's run of three straight quality starts came to an end as the Yankees got to him. Trent Grisham had a pair of solo shots, and Austin Wells capped a six-run fifth inning with a three-run blast. The three homers allowed matched the total Hancock had given up over his first five starts of the year combined. He's now at a 6.91 ERA, 1.71 WHIP and 22:11 K:BB across 28.2 innings over six starts. Hancock will likely get one more turn in the rotation -- a road start at San Diego this weekend -- before ceding his spot to George Kirby (shoulder), though Hancock could stick around as a starter if Logan Gilbert's (elbow) recovery timeline trends toward the end of May or early June.

Schmidt (1-1) allowed three runs on three hits and two walks while striking out six over six-plus innings to earn the win Monday over the Mariners.

Schmidt has turned in consecutive quality starts, and this was one was enough to get him his first win of the season. He allowed solo home runs to Julio Rodriguez and Jorge Polanco, but a big fifth inning by the Yankees gave Schmidt plenty of support. Over five starts this season, the 29-year-old has a 4.73 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 25:12 K:BB across 26.2 innings. His next start is expected to be at home over the weekend versus the Mets.

King allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out eight over 5.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Angels on Monday.

King came up an out short of a quality start, and he was also denied the win after Robert Suarez's meltdown in the ninth inning. This was just the third time all year King has given up three runs, and he's yet to give up more than that in any start. He's now at a 2.32 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 56:16 K:BB over 50.1 innings across nine starts. The 29-year-old right-hander continues to be one of the best pitchers in the majors early in the campaign. He'll look to keep things rolling with a home start versus the Mariners this weekend.

Kikuchi allowed four runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out four over six innings in a no-decision versus the Padres on Monday.

It was Kikuchi's own throwing error that led to two runs scoring to give the Padres the lead in the third inning. He left the game with the Angels trailing 4-3, but they rallied in the ninth to get him off the hook, instead leaving him with a third straight no-decision. This was his fifth quality start in nine outings, but he has yet to get in the win column. Kikuchi has posted a 3.72 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 43:22 K:BB over 48.1 innings, though he's walked just four batters over his last three starts, spanning 17 innings. The left-hander's next start is projected to be a tough road matchup versus the Dodgers this weekend.

Verlander (0-3) allowed two runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out five over six innings to take the loss Monday versus the Diamondbacks.

Verlander's performance has stabilized after a rough first few turns through the rotation. This was his fourth quality start in his last five outings, though he ended up with the loss anyway after allowing a pair of solo home runs to Corbin Carroll in the low-scoring game. Verlander's ERA is down to 4.31, but he still has a 1.35 WHIP and 40:16 K:BB over 48 innings through nine starts this season. He hasn't had a BB/9 over 3.0 in a full season since 2017, but it's right at that mark so far in 2025. He's projected to make his next start at home versus the Athletics.

Kelly (4-2) allowed a run on eight hits and struck out eight without walking a batter over seven innings to earn the win over the Giants on Monday.

Kelly was just a little better than opposing starter Justin Verlander in this pitching duel. The 36-year-old Kelly has now allowed exactly one run in five of his nine outings this season, and this start ended a stretch of four appearances without a win. The right-hander trimmed his ERA to 3.71 with a 1.06 WHIP and 41:12 K:BB across 51 innings this season. He's projected to make his next start at home versus the Rockies this weekend.

Brito underwent a UCL internal brace surgery and a repair of his flexor tendon last month and will miss the entire 2025 season, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Brito was moved to the 60-day injured list at the beginning of April, but Cassavell's report provides an explanation for why the Padres made that transaction. He's facing a lengthy recovery and will shift his focus on preparing for the 2026 season after going under the knife.

Sanchez did not factor in the decision during Monday's loss to St. Louis. He allowed two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out eight over six innings.

Sanchez tossed three scoreless frames before Pedro Pages brought home a run with a fielder's choice in the fourth inning. Ivan Herrera later drilled a solo homer in the sixth. Sanchez has allowed two or fewer earned runs in seven of his eight outings this season, including an active six-start streak. He produced 13 whiffs Monday, including eight with his changeup. Sanchez is sporting an impressive 2.91 ERA with a 52:17 K:BB across 43.1 innings. He's in line for a home matchup against the Pirates this weekend.
