Ritchie didn't factor into the decision Sunday against the Nationals, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks over four innings. He struck out four.

Making his first major-league start since June 23, Ritchie held the Nats scoreless through three innings before allowing two runs in the fourth. Overall, Ritchie sports a 4.50 ERA across 58 innings in the majors this season with a 1.43 WHIP and 53:36 K:BB. The 23-year-old rookie figures to get another look in Atlanta's rotation with Reynaldo Lopez (knee) on the IL. Ritchie currently lines up to face the Yankees on the road in his next outing.

Cavalli (8-5) took the loss Sunday against Atlanta, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk across six innings. He struck out three.

Both earned runs charged to Cavalli came on a pair of solo home runs -- a Mike Yastrzemski blast in the third inning followed by Matt Olson's game-tying shot in the fourth. It's Cavalli's first loss since June 7, and the right-hander has turned in five straight quality starts, posting a 2.30 ERA across 30 innings in that span. Overall, Cavalli's ERA is down to 3.52 on the season with a 1.29 WHIP and 133:37 K:BB across 24 starts (122.2 innings). He's currently in line to face the Reds at home his next time out.

Canning is expected to pitch in bulk relief behind opening pitcher Kyle Hart in Sunday's game against the Giants, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Canning will be available to pitch on three days' rest after he struck out four over three shutout innings of relief in his previous appearance in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Rockies. Hart tossed 2.2 innings as an opener Wednesday, and while he could work a bit deeper into Sunday's outing, he's still unlikely to reach the five innings he would need to hit to qualify for a win. As a result, Canning -- who claimed his second victory of the season Wednesday -- looks like the Padres pitcher most likely to earn a win Sunday.

The Blue Jays acquired Taillon from the Cubs on Sunday in exchange for cash or a player to be named later, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.

The veteran right-hander was designated for assignment by the Cubs on Monday, and the Blue Jays elected to secure his services via trade rather than risk another team claiming him on waivers. Unless Toronto shifts to a six-man rotation, Taillon doesn't cleanly fit into the club's starting plans, but that could change soon with Kevin Gausman and Shane Bieber being candidates to be moved ahead of Monday's trade deadline.

Ginn (finger) will be reinstated from the 15-day injured list to start Tuesday's game at Cincinnati, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

The right-hander landed on the shelf due to a blister after his first start coming out of the All-Star break, but he's ready to rejoin the big-league rotation after throwing a bullpen session Saturday. Even with an eight-run blowup versus the White Sox on July 12 inflating his numbers, Ginn has 6-3 record with a 3.72 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 52:26 K:BB in 55.2 innings across his past 10 starts.

The Mets acquired Gill Hill, outfielder Aidan Smith and infielder Emilien Pitre from the Rays on Sunday in exchange for right-hander Freddy Peralta, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.

Peralta is the third big domino to fall in the pitcher market leading up to Monday's deadline after Tarik Skubal and Luis Castillo were moved to the Dodgers and White Sox, respectively, earlier in the weekend. Gill Hill, 21, has had his share of troubles in his first taste of the Double-A level this season with a 4.54 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 61:14 K:BB across 81.1 innings. He'll likely report to Double-A Binghamton for the Mets.

The Rays acquired Peralta from the Mets on Sunday in exchange for outfielder Aidan Smith, second baseman Emilien Pitre and right-hander Gary Gill Hill, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.

Peralta was pulled from his scheduled start Friday versus Miami in anticipation of Monday's trade deadline, and the Mets found a willing suitor for his services in the Rays, who pivoted to the right-hander after falling short in their pursuit of Tarik Skubal. After being acquired from the Brewers during the offseason, Peralta had a rough time in Queens with a 4.99 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 113:48 K:BB in 113.2 innings over 22 starts. Tampa Bay represents a good landing spot for the 30-year-old, given the Rays' track record of getting the best out of their pitchers.

King is no longer scheduled to start Sunday's game against the Giants and will instead make his next turn through the rotation Monday in Arizona.

San Diego will have Kyle Hart serve as its opening pitcher in a bullpen game during Sunday's series finale. The Padres didn't provide an explanation behind the late change, but the decision to scratch King adds fuel to the notion that he could be moved ahead of Monday's trade deadline. If the right-hander ends up staying put, he'll tentatively line up for a two-start week, with his second outing coming next weekend at home versus the Astros.

The Royals placed Avila on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to right forearm tightness.

Avila's move to the IL comes after he was blitzed for six earned runs on four hits and three walks over 2.2 innings in a 12-6 loss in Colorado on Saturday. Pitching at high altitude didn't help, but the forearm injury may have played a part in his struggles after he had been developing into a trustworthy fantasy option. Over his preceding seven starts, Avila went 4-0 with a 3.82 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 31:17 K:BB in 35.1 innings. The Royals will send the righty for further testing before providing a timeline for his return, though even mild forearm injuries often entail a recovery period of more than 15 days.

White Sox manager Will Venable said Sunday that Fedde will be moved to the bullpen following the team's acquisition of right-hander Luis Castillo, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports.

Rather than expanding the rotation to six or demoting struggling rookie Noah Schultz to the minors, the White Sox will instead shift Fedde to a long relief role. Fedde had been part of the rotation all season but 10 of his 22 appearances have come as a bulk reliever, so it likely won't be a big adjustment. The veteran righty has gone 6-6 with a 4.13 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 74:36 K:BB in 102.1 innings this season.
