Zac Gallen SP | ARI
Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Fires six shutout innings
Gallen (10-13) allowed two hits and three walks while striking out eight over six shutout innings to earn the win over the Dodgers on Friday.
Gallen has steadied his season with a strong August -- this was his fifth quality start in six outings for the month. It was just the second scoreless outing of the season for Gallen, who also ended a three-game winless stretch with the effort. A big part of his recent success has come from limiting home runs -- he's given up just three long balls over his last seven starts, spanning 41 innings. On the year, he's now at a 4.94 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 149:56 K:BB through 162 innings across 28 starts. The right-hander is projected for a home matchup versus the Rangers next week.

Blake Snell SP | LAD
Dodgers' Blake Snell: Racks up eight strikeouts in loss
Snell (3-3) allowed three runs on four hits and three walks while striking out eight over 5.1 innings, taking the loss Friday versus the Diamondbacks.
The Dodgers weren't able to generate any run support for Snell, who didn't help his cause with the three walks as well as two wild pitches. The southpaw took consecutive losses for the first time this season, but this wasn't a terrible performance outside of the wildness. He's now at a 2.41 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 38:18 K:BB through 37.1 innings over seven starts. Snell is lined up to make his next start on the road in Baltimore.

Freddy Peralta SP | MIL
Brewers' Freddy Peralta: Outduels Bieber in Toronto
Peralta (16-5) earned the win against the Blue Jays on Friday, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out eight across six scoreless innings.
It was another dominant performance for Peralta, who limited the Blue Jays to just three baserunners before retiring the last 10 hitters he faced. He generated 12 whiffs on 95 pitches (62 strikes), and he was able to collect his league-leading 16th win after the Brewers tagged Shane Bieber for two of five runs in the sixth frame. Peralta has not yielded a run in each of his last four starts, and across 153.2 innings this season he sports a 2.58 ERA and 1.07 WHIP, which rank fifth and 12th, respectively, among qualified starters in the majors. He's slated to face the Phillies at home next week.

Eury Perez SP | MIA
Marlins' Eury Perez: Fails to escape first frame
Perez (6-4) took the loss against the Mets on Friday, allowing five runs on three hits and two walks in two-thirds of an inning without recording a strikeout.
Perez entered Friday's contest on the heels of a quality start against the Blue Jays on Sunday. Any momentum from that outing fizzled out immediately Friday, with the 22-year-old right-hander allowing the first five batters he faced on board, which converted into five runs on homers from Juan Soto and Brandon Nimmo. Perez was pulled after tossing 39 pitches (21 strikes) and recording just two outs, which is the shortest outing of his major-league career since July 1, 2023 against Atlanta, when he logged just one out while allowing six runs in a loss. He'll look to bounce back in his next outing, tentatively slated for next week on the road against the Nationals.

Jonah Tong SP | NYM
Mets' Jonah Tong: Collects win in first career start
Tong (1-0) earned the win against the Marlins on Friday, allowing four runs (one earned) on six hits while striking out six across five innings. He did not issue a walk.
The 22-year-old Tong looked composed in his major-league debut, keeping the Marlins off the board through the first four innings. The Marlins managed to end the scoreless bid by bringing home four runs in the fifth (though only one was charged to Tong due to an error and a wild pitch), but the Mets provided plenty of run support for him to come away with the win in his major-league debut. Per the Mets' official broadcast, Tong's win Friday and Nolan McLean's victory Aug. 16 marked the first time in franchise history that two starting pitchers got a victory in their major-league debut in the same season. Tong isn't cemented in the Mets' rotation for the rest of the regular season, but he is lined up to take on the Reds on the road next weekend, when he'll look to capture his second win in the majors.

Paul Skenes SP | PIT
Pirates' Paul Skenes: Collects win vs. BoSox
Skenes (9-9) earned the win against the Red Sox on Friday, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits and one walk while striking out six across six innings.
The seven hits allowed tied a season high, but Skenes was able to limit the damage to two runs, with the one earned coming on a Roman Anthony solo shot in fifth inning. Skenes was in danger of taking his 10th loss of the season, but the Pirates scored three runs in the sixth to put the ace in line for the win. Skenes has yielded two earned runs or less in nine of his last 11 starts since July 1, and over that span he's posted a 1.92 ERA and 1.03 WHIP over 61 innings. He leads all qualified starters this season with a 2.05 ERA, and his 187 strikeouts and 0.95 WHIP rank fourth and fifth, respectively. Skenes is lined up to face the Dodgers at home next week, when he'll look for his 10th win of the year.

German Marquez SP | COL
Rockies' German Marquez: Officially activated
The Rockies reinstated Marquez (biceps) from the 15-day injured list to start Friday's game against the Cubs.
Marquez will return from nearly a five-week absence due to right biceps tendinitis. The veteran right-hander worked up to 76 pitches in his last minor-league rehab start, and he should be cleared to handle a full workload. Marquez has a better ERA at Coors Field (5.31) than he does on the road (5.95) this season.

Tylor Megill SP | NYM
Mets' Tylor Megill: Needs another rehab start
The Mets will have Megill (elbow) make at least one more rehab start before considering activating him from the 60-day injured list, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Heading into the week, Megill looked to be a candidate to start Friday's game against Miami, but the Mets opted to give him another rehab start to stretch out. The 30-year-old right-hander ended up taking the hill Thursday for Triple-A Syracuse in what was the fourth overall outing of his rehab assignment. He covered four innings and tossed 70 pitches for Syracuse, striking out four while allowing three earned runs on four hits and four walks. Megill will likely take the hill again in the minors early next week in what could be his final rehab start, but his role upon his return from the 60-day injured list has yet to be determined. Though Megill is building up as a starter, he could be relegated to the bullpen if top prospect Jonah Tong -- who will be called up from Syracuse to start Friday versus the Marlins -- fares well in his big-league debut and earns himself additional turns through the rotation.

Josiah Gray SP | WAS
Nationals' Josiah Gray: Completes live BP
Gray (elbow) threw a about 30 pitches of live batting practice Wednesday, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.
The right-hander continues working his way back from the Tommy John surgery with an internal brace that he underwent in July 2024. Gray may need another live session or two before being cleared for a rehab assignment. Assuming he can avoid a setback, the 27-year-old has a good chance of coming off the injured list for a cameo with the Nationals before the end of the season.

Jonah Tong SP | NYM
Mets' Jonah Tong: Added to roster ahead of debut
The Mets selected Tong's contract from Triple-A Syracuse on Friday.
Tong is set to make his major-league debut Friday against the Marlins at Citi Field. The 22-year-old posted a 1.43 ERA and 0.92 WHIP with 179 strikeouts in 113.2 innings covering 22 starts between Double-A Binghamton and Syracuse. Tong isn't guaranteed any starts beyond Friday's debut, but a strong performance could convince the Mets he should stick around alongside fellow rookie Nolan McLean.
