Clayton Kershaw SP | LAD
Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Could begin rehab assignment Monday
Manager Dave Roberts said Kershaw (back) will throw three innings or 45 pitches in either a simulated game or a minor-league rehab game Monday, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.
Kershaw was able to get through two simulated innings with no issues Wednesday, so he'll ramp things up in his next scheduled outing, which is set for Monday to keep him on a five-day routine. With High-A Rancho Cucamonga not playing Monday, and Triple-A Oklahoma City playing at Colorado Springs, it seems likely that his next outing will be a simulated game, though he should head out on a rehab assignment after. Barring any setbacks, Kershaw could possibly be back in the Dodgers' rotation before the end of August.

Gerrit Cole SP | NYY
Pirates' Gerrit Cole: Serves up three homers in no-decision
Cole gave up four runs on five hits -- including three home runs -- over six innings in a no-decision against the Brewers on Wednesday. He struck out nine and walked two.
Cole had gotten the better of Milwaukee on three prior occasions this season, but he struggled with the long ball in this one, serving up round trippers to Keon Broxton, Neil Walker and Travis Shaw. With that, Cole's streak of seven consecutive quality starts was snapped. Cole lines up for two starts next week -- first the Dodgers at home and then the Reds in Cincinnati.

Jose Urena SP | LAA
Marlins' Jose Urena: Quiets Giants over five for 11th win
Urena (11-5) earned a win over the Giants on Wednesday, allowing one run on seven hits and one walk while striking out two over five innings.
It was far from a dominant performance, but Urena kept the Giants off the board over five, just long enough to qualify for the win. Urena has been surprisingly effective this season despite a bottom-12 K/9 rate among qualified starters. With matchups against the Phillies and Padres on tap for next week, Urena will have a good opportunity to stave off regression for a while longer yet.

Noah Syndergaard SP | CLE
Mets' Noah Syndergaard: Set to throw another bullpen this weekend
Syndergaard (lat) felt good following his first bullpen session Tuesday, and is in line to throw again in the next few days, Marc Carig of Newsday reports.
Syndergaard will continue to ramp up his effort in trying to return to the Mets this season, and will likely toss more than the 20 pitches he threw Tuesday during this weekend's scheduled bullpen. There still hasn't been much clarity regarding a timetable for the right-hander, but if he's able to make it through an upcoming bullpen without any blemishes, the club could send him out on a rehab assignment by the time New York begins a road trip on Aug. 25.

Brandon Woodruff SP | MIL
Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Starting Saturday against Colorado
Woodruff will take the mound against the Rockies on Saturday for his next scheduled start, The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Tom Haudricourt reports.
Woodruff was initially slated to pitch during Friday's series opener, but manager Craig Counsell decided to switch him with Matt Garza due to upcoming matchups down the road. The right-hander will toe the rubber on nine days of rest after limited the Twins to two earned runs off three hits and three walks in 5.2 innings last Wednesday.

Cal Quantrill RP | TEX
Padres' Cal Quantrill: Treading water since being promoted to Double-A
Quantrill, 22, has a 3.38 ERA and 20:8 K:BB in 29.1 innings since being promoted to Double-A San Antonio.
The stats certainly aren't terrible for Quantrill, though his strikeouts are down and his walks are up since the promotion. Quantrill has made a successful return from Tommy John surgery, though it remains to be seen if his lanky frame will hold up to the rigors of being a starting pitcher, and he must continue the development of a third pitch. Nevertheless, he is one of the better pitching prospects for the Padres.
-
Mike Soroka SP | ARI
Braves' Mike Soroka: More than holding own at Double-A
Soroka, 20, has a 2.70 ERA and 109:29 K:BB in 130 innings for Double-A Mississippi.
Opposing batters are hitting just .224 against the 6-foot-5 righty. It is worth noting that while Soroka has exceptional control, his K/9 has decreased at each level since entering the minors in 2015. It currently sits at 7.55, meaning that Soroka's upside may be as more of a No. 3 pitcher than a frontline rotation anchor.
-
Zach Davies SP | WAS
Brewers' Zach Davies: Stifles Pirates on Tuesday
Davies (14-6) picked up the win over the Pirates on Tuesday, giving up only one run on six hits and two walks over 6.2 innings while striking out two.
While the right-hander has been far from dominant lately, managing only a 5.3 K/9 over his last six starts, his ability to generate weak contact and keep the ball in the yard has led to a 2.20 ERA and 1.12 WHIP over that stretch. Davies will look to keep rolling Monday in a favorable road matchup against the Giants.
-
Alex Wood RP | ATH
Dodgers' Alex Wood: Goes seven strong in no-decision
Wood allowed one run on six hits while striking out six over seven innings in a no-decision against the White Sox on Tuesday. He did not issue a walk.
All the more impressive, Wood completed the seven innings on just 79 pitches. The lefty continues to excel for the Dodgers -- he now sits with a 2.30 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, .206 BAA and 122:30 K:BB over 117.1 innings -- and his velocity has rebounded in recent starts following a gradual decline over the first four months of the campaign. Even so, the Dodgers have run away with the NL West and they could opt to skip Wood here or there down the stretch.

Kyle Hendricks SP | LAA
Cubs' Kyle Hendricks: Throws six scoreless in no-decision
Hendricks gave up five hits and four walks while striking out six over six scoreless innings in a no-decision against the Reds on Tuesday.
While he did issue four free passes, tying a season high, Hendricks was able to match zeroes on the scoreboard with opposing starter Luis Castillo. Hendricks got the Reds to look at 17 called strikes and he limited them to all of four flyballs. The right-hander hasn't picked up a win since May 24 -- he spent a month and a half on the DL with a hand injury -- but Hendricks has looked more like himself lately, allowing just six runs over 27 innings since his return in late July. Hendricks lines up to face the Blue Jays at home this weekend.
