  • Jon Gray SP | TEX

Rockies' Jon Gray: Whiffs eight in Friday's win

Gray (9-4) picked up the win over the Padres on Friday, striking out and eight and allowing one run on five hits and a walk over six innings.

He extended his streak of starts in which he's given up three runs or fewer to 12, and Gray's 2.49 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 75:16 K:BB in 72.1 innings over that stretch are the kind of ace-like numbers the Rockies were hoping for when they drafted the right-hander in the first round back in 2013. He'll make one more trip to the mound in the regular season Wednesday at home against the Marlins.

  • Zack Greinke SP | KC

Diamondbacks' Zack Greinke: Mauled by Marlins on Friday

Greinke got tagged for eight runs on nine hits -- including three home runs -- and two walks over four innings Friday while striking out three, but he didn't factor into the decision in a 13-11 win over the Marlins.

It was Greinke's worst outing of the year, snapping a streak of five straight quality starts for the veteran righty. He'll try to shake it off and build some momentum for the playoffs in his final start of the regular season Wednesday at home against the Giants, who he's dominated in 2017 with a 1.83 ERA and 16:3 K:BB over three starts and 19.2 innings.

  • Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Gives up four runs in no-decision

Woodruff allowed four runs on five hits and three walks with four strikeouts over five innings in a no-decision Friday against the Cubs.

Woodruff has been serving a fill-in role for the Brewers and has done an excellent job of keeping the club in the game. He has lasted at least five innings now in seven of his eight appearances. Woodruff's control lapses cost him on Friday, as he managed to hold the scary Cubs lineup to just one extra-base hit, but the free baserunners he allowed came back to hurt him. His ERA sits at 3.76 and Woodruff has earned his spot in the rotation down the stretch.

  • Ben Lively SP | CLE

Phillies' Ben Lively: Gives up six runs in loss to Altanta

Lively (3-7) allowed six runs on eight hits and two walks with four strikeouts over five innings as he took the loss Friday against the Braves.

For the first time since August 26, Lively allowed more than three runs in a start. He got touched up for three extra-base hits, including a home run. Lively has been inconsistent, but with a 4.35 ERA, he has been a roughly league average starter in his first crack at major league action.

  • Cardinals' Michael Wacha: Lasts five innings in Friday no decision

Wacha (12-8) allowed two runs on three hits and one walk while striking out four across five innings, but received no decision Friday against the Pirates.

Wacha held the Pirates scoreless the first time through the lineup, but allowed a pair of runs in the fourth inning that erased a 2-0 lead he was given, and as a result he was unable to earn his 13th victory of the season. He's held opponents to three or fewer earned runs in each of his last five starts, and he's been an adequate fantasy option down the stretch. He'll make his next start Wednesday against the Cubs.

  • Mets' Noah Syndergaard: Will pitch one inning Saturday

Syndergaard (lat) will start Saturday's game against the Nationals, but then be replaced by Matt Harvey in the second inning, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

This will be Syndergaard's first major-league appearance since April 30, although it'll be a brief outing. The right-hander was able to throw 39 pitches during a simulated game Monday, but will surely be in store for far less during Saturday's contest. Looking ahead, it hasn't been determined whether he will take the mound again, or in what capacity, over the final week of the 2017 season, although Syndergaard did state that he would like to make two appearances before the end of the year. There will likely be a definitive plan set up early next week, especially once the club is able to determine his status following Saturday's game.

  • Josh Smoker SP | PIT

Mets' Josh Smoker: Bounces back in second half

Smoker has earned a 5.43 ERA across 53 innings this season with the Mets.

Despite an ugly 7.45 ERA in the first half of the season, Smoker has bounced back with a 3.00 ERA since the All-Star break. After dealing with a nagging elbow injury throughout June and July, the 28-year-old finally appears healthy. He's near the middle of the pack in a struggling bullpen, however he has the potential to pitch some key innings in the final games of the season.

  • Tyler Anderson SP | LAA

Rockies' Tyler Anderson: Fans six in losing effort

Anderson (5-6) allowed three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out six batters through 5.2 innings to take the loss against San Diego on Thursday.

The Rockies couldn't muster the offense to help out Anderson on Thursday, which snapped a two-game winning streak for the lefty since he came off the disabled list. Anderson missed approximately two months with a knee injury, so posting a 1.72 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 7.5 K/9 through three outings since returning from the DL is an encouraging stretch. He projects to face the Marlins at Coors Field in his final start of the campaign.

  • Zach Davies SP | WAS

Brewers' Zach Davies: Cruises through seven frames

Davies gave up two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out three in seven innings Thursday in a no-decision against the Cubs.

He needed just 77 pitches (51 strikes) to cruise through seven frames, but in a crucial close game against the division leader, manager Craig Counsell understandably opted to pinch hit for Davies in the bottom of the seventh inning. Davies was coming off his shortest and possibly worst start of the year, so this was an impressive outing in a huge game that the Brewers ended up losing in extra innings. He lines up to start Tuesday at home against the Reds and then again on the last day of the regular season in St. Louis.

  • Cardinals' Carlos Martinez: Fans six to collect 12th win

Martinez (12-11) allowed four runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out six batters through 6.1 innings to take the win over Cincinnati on Thursday.

Martinez was nursing the flu this weekend, and he had his worst outing of the season against the Cubs last time out. So, while Thursday's showing was far from a gem, the righty still rewarded fantasy owners with the win. Martinez sports a 3.63 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 9.5 K/9 for the campaign. He'll look to cap off another strong fantasy season with home starts against the Cubs and Brewers.
