The Giants recalled Teng from Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday, and he's expected to start Monday's game against the Rockies in Colorado, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The right-hander has struggled to an 8.78 ERA across 13.1 frames in the majors this season, but he'll receive another opportunity with the Giants after starter Carson Whisenhunt (back) was placed on the injured list Sunday. Despite his struggles over four outings with the Giants, Teng has been effective for Sacramento this season with a 3.63 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 89:22 K:BB across 57 innings.

The Giants placed Whisenhunt on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to a back strain, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The left-hander presumably suffered the injury during his start Wednesday against the Cubs, during which he picked up the win after allowing three runs across five innings. Whisenhunt will be eligible to be reinstated in mid-September, though it's unclear if he's expected to be healthy by that point. Kai-Wei Teng was called up from Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move and will take Whisenhunt's place in the rotation Monday at Colorado.

Pallante (6-13) took the loss Sunday against the Reds, allowing five runs (two earned) on six hits and four walks over five innings. He struck out six.

It's the sixth straight defeat for Pallante, who's struggled to a 1-9 record with a 7.79 ERA in his last 10 starts. Overall, the right-hander sports a 5.38 ERA with a 1.44 WHIP and 101:52 K:BB across 27 starts (144 innings) this year. Pallante will look to turn things around in his next outing, tentatively scheduled for next week at home against the Giants.

Singer (12-9) earned the win Sunday over the Cardinals, allowing three runs on five hits and no walks across six innings. He struck out eight.

Singer gave up a pair of runs in the first inning before settling down and holding the Cards to one run over his final five frames. It's the fourth straight quality start for Singer, who's gone 5-1 with a 2.20 ERA with 47 strikeouts over his last seven outings (41 innings). The 29-year-old Singer holds a 4.08 ERA on the season with a 1.26 WHIP and 140:52 K:BB across 27 starts (143.1 innings). He's currently slated for a home matchup with the Mets his next time out.

The Cubs claimed Civale off waivers from the White Sox on Sunday.

The veteran right-hander will move on to his third stop of the season, after the White Sox previously acquired him from the Brewers in the June 13 deal that sent Andrew Vaughn to Milwaukee. He had been making regular turns out of the White Sox rotation since the trade, submitting; a 5.37 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 55:26 K:BB in 67 innings over his 13 starts with the club. Since the 30-year-old is on an expiring contract and wasn't part of the rebuilding White Sox's plans, he was exposed to waivers and scooped by the Cubs. Civale's exact role with his new organization isn't yet clear, as the Cubs have been getting decent results from Colin Rea and Javier Assad at the back end of the rotation of late and may not view Civale as an upgrade over either pitcher. If that's the case, Civale could initially be ticketed for a long-relief role with the Cubs.

The Marlins placed Gusto on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to a right shoulder impingement.

The right-hander was tagged for nine runs during most recent start versus Atlanta on Wednesday and will now be sidelined for at least the next couple weeks. Gusto won't have much time to get healthy before the end of the season, and he won't be guaranteed a rotation spot even if he does return to the mound for the Marlins in 2025.

The Padres recalled Hart from Triple-A El Paso on Sunday.

Right-hander David Morgan is scheduled to serve as the opening pitcher for Sunday's game in Minnesota, but Hart could be tasked with covering multiple innings behind him. Hart previously made six starts for the Padres and nine for El Paso this season, but he's worked largely in relief since the All-Star break. The southpaw hasn't covered more than three innings in any appearance in August, so the Padres could end up treating this as more of a bullpen game rather than leaning on Hart as a bulk reliever.

Burns (elbow) threw a bullpen session Saturday, MLB.com reports.

The session simulated Burns working multiple innings. The tentative next step for the right-hander is to face hitters in a batting practice session Tuesday. The Reds still believe Burns can pitch again before the end of the regular season, but there's no firm target date for his return.

Tong will remain in the Mets rotation during the upcoming week and is set to make his next start Friday in Cincinnati.

The young right-hander cruised to an easy win in his MLB debut, striking out six batters while allowing four runs (one earned) on six hits and no walks in the Mets' 19-9 rout of the Marlins on Friday. Tong led the minors with 179 punchouts prior to his promotion, but whether the top prospect sticks in the rotation throughout September could hinge on how he performs at hitter-friendly Great American Ball Park, as Tylor Megill (elbow) is in the midst of a rehab assignment and could be ready to return from the 60-day injured list the next time the Mets would need a sixth starter. The team could also keep spots open in a six-man rotation for both Tong and Megill by moving Clay Holmes to the bullpen, as Holmes has already more than doubled his innings count from 2024 while he serves as a full-time starter for the first time since 2018.

Pivetta didn't factor into the decision against the Twins on Saturday, allowing three runs on five hits and one walk while striking out six over five innings.

Pivetta was steady through the early frames before serving up a two-run homer to Byron Buxton in the fifth that accounted for most of the damage against him. The long ball has been a recurring issue lately, as Pivetta has now surrendered a home run in five of his last six starts. Still, it was just the second time in the right-hander's last 12 outings that he's allowed more than two runs, a stretch in which he's posted a stellar 2.06 ERA and a 76:18 K:BB across 70 innings. Pivetta is slated to face the Rockies in his next scheduled outing.
