Cole Hamels SP | SD
Cubs' Cole Hamels: Tosses eight strong frames
Hamels (2-0) allowed one run on four hits with six strikeouts and no walks across eight innings in a victory over the Angels on Friday.
His first start was a rough one against his former team (the Rangers), but in his last two outings Hamels has been on point, yielding just three runs in 14 innings. He also has 11 strikeouts and no walks during that stretch. Overall, Hamels is 2-0 with a 3.79 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 15 strikeouts in 19 frames. His next start should come Wednesday against the Marlins.

Sandy Alcantara SP | MIA
Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Handed first loss of 2019
Alcantara (1-1) took the loss Friday after surrendering six runs on 11 hits and two walks while striking out six over five innings against the Phillies.
Alcantara made it through the first two frames unscathed, but he fell apart in the third inning, allowing five runs on six hits and a walk. After giving up just two runs over his first 12 innings of the 2019 campaign, the 23-year-old took a definite step back in this one. He'll aim to get back on track against the Cubs on Wednesday.

Kyle Wright SP | CHC
Braves' Kyle Wright: Hit hard by Mets
Wright (0-2) took the loss Friday, coughing up six runs on eight hits and four walks over 3.2 innings while striking out three as Atlanta fell 6-2 to the Mets.
Half the hits off the rookie went for extra bases, including a Brandon Nimmo homer in the second inning, and Wright only managed five swinging strikes among his 76 pitches (45 total strikes). With Mike Foltynewicz (elbow) currently targeting a return to the rotation in a week or so, Wright might only get one more start -- at home Wednesday against the Diamondbacks -- before a demotion to the bullpen or Triple-A Gwinnett.

Zack Wheeler SP | PHI
Mets' Zack Wheeler: Fans eight in win
Wheeler (1-1) picked up the win in Friday's 6-2 victory over Atlanta, allowing two runs on six hits and three walks over six innings while striking out eight.
After a less than stellar start to the season that saw the right-hander manage a 9:8 K:BB through his first 9.2 innings, Wheeler found his stride in this one. He fired 69 of 111 pitches for strikes en route to his first quality start. His 7.47 ERA is still sky high, but he'll look to whittle it down further Wednesday in Philadelphia.

Taijuan Walker SP | LAA
Diamondbacks' Taijuan Walker: Tosses another successful bullpen
Walker (elbow) threw a 45-pitch bullpen session Friday, Jack Magruder of The Sports Xchange reports.
This is the second bullpen that Walker has thrown this week, and he's felt good thus far. Arizona is expected to continue to take it slow with the right-hander, who had Tommy John surgery nearly a year ago.

Rich Hill SP | KC
Dodgers' Rich Hill: Completes simulated game
Hill (knee) completed a three-inning simulated game Friday, Mike DiGiovanna of The Los Angeles Times reports.
Hill threw 46 pitches at what appeared to be full intensity, per Giovanna. He then threw 15 pitches in the bullpen and said afterward he's feeling ready for a competitive game, so a rehab start is next on the docket for the veteran left-hander as he works his way back from his knee sprain.

Zac Gallen SP | ARI
Marlins' Zac Gallen: Dominant to begin Triple-A season
Gallen gave up a run on three hits while striking out eight over six innings for Triple-A New Orleans on Thursday.
Good as this start was, Gallen's first outing for the Baby Cakes was even better as he no-hit Round Rock over seven frames while fanning 11. The Marlins' No. 7 fantasy prospect improved his stock during spring training by showing improved velocity with his fastball, and he's carried that momentum forward into the regular season. Gallen isn't on the 40-man roster yet, so a big-league debut this season may not be in the cards for the 23-year-old, but if he keeps dominating at Triple-A he'll put himself in the Marlins' rotation plans for 2020.

Jon Gray SP | TEX
Rockies' Jon Gray: Takes loss in strong start
Gray (0-3) took the loss against the Giants on Thursday, despite giving up just one earned run on five hits over 6.2 innings, striking out six and walking three as the Rockies fell 1-0.
Gray was unlucky to not find himself in line for the win despite the strong outing, as his teammates only scored one run on the evening, which ultimately proved to be the difference. This was still an encouraging performance for the right-hander, who lowered his ERA to 4.19 and his WHIP to 1.24 with the effort. Gray is scheduled to return to the hill against the Padres on Tuesday.

Joe Musgrove SP | SD
Pirates' Joe Musgrove: Loses on unearned run
Musgrove (1-1) allowed two runs (none earned) on four hits while striking out six and walking two across 6.1 innings during a loss to the Cubs on Thursday.
Infield defense has been a huge issue for the Pirates early this season, and it came to light again in the seventh. Jung Ho Kang and Erik Gonzalez came together on a popup down the left-field line during the inning, and neither made the catch despite the ball hitting a glove. The Cubs capitalized, scoring two runs in the frame, which were the only two runs of the game. Still, Musgrove has been magnificent, having yet to give up an earned run this year. He is 1-1 with a 0.00 ERA, 0.65 WHIP and 15 strikeouts in 15.1 innings. His next scheduled start is against the Tigers.

Jose Quintana SP | COL
Cubs' Jose Quintana: Throws seven scoreless
Quintana (1-1) allowed no runs on four hits with 11 strikeouts and only one walk in a victory against the Pirates on Thursday.
The lefty threw 99 pitches, so he may not have pitched the eighth anyway, but the lightning and thunder at Wrigley Field -- and not the Pirates -- officially knocked him out of the game after the seventh. This is exactly what the doctor ordered for Quintana, but even after seven shutout frames, his numbers sit at unhealthy levels. Quintana is 1-1 with a 5.14 ERA, 1.71 WHIP and 22 strikeouts in 14 innings this season. His next start should come against the Marlins.
