  • Mets' Noah Syndergaard: Strikes out nine in win

Syndergaard struck out nine while allowing two runs on five hits and no walks across seven innings to earn a victory against the Marlins on Saturday.

The right-hander was able to capture his seventh win because of a Robinson Cano homer in the top of the eighth. The game was locked 2-2 when Sydergaard last left the mound. Syndergaard has won four straight decisions, and he hasn't suffered a loss since May 19. Still, his numbers are a little disappointing based on the high standards he set for himself in his first four seasons. Syndergaard is 7-4 with a 4.55 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 110 strikeouts in 112.2 innings this season. He will look to build upon this performance in his next outing Friday in San Francisco.

  • Aaron Nola SP | PHI

Phillies' Aaron Nola: Fans nine in no-decision

Nola didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Nationals, allowing one run on five hits and four walks over six innings while striking out nine.

The right-hander dominated early, but some lengthy at-bats against the likes of Anthony Rendon ran up Nola's pitch count, and he was forced to exit the game after tossing 110 pitches (73 strikes). He was still headed for his ninth win of the year until Hector Neris served up a game-winning homer in the ninth. Nola will take a 3.63 ERA and 133:48 K:BB through 116.2 innings into his next start Thursday, at home against the Dodgers.

  • Patrick Corbin SP | TOR

Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Fans 10 in no-decision

Corbin didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Phillies, giving up three runs on six hits and two walks over six innings while striking out 10.

For the second consecutive outing, the southpaw fanned double-digit batters and delivered a quality start but wasn't rewarded with a win, and in fact it took some ninth-inning heroics by Juan Soto just to take Corbin off the hook for his sixth loss. He's still on an impressive roll, going 2-0 over five straight quality starts with a 1.59 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 45:6 K:BB through 34 innings. Corbin will try to stay dialed in when he next takes the mound Thursday in Atlanta.

  • Cardinals' Carlos Martinez: Dominant in fourth save

Martinez struck out three over 1.1 perfect innings to record his fourth save of the season in a 4-2 win over the Diamondbacks on Saturday.

The 27-year-old continues to thrive at the back of the Cards' bullpen. Since the beginning of June, Martinez has a 1.26 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 17:2 K:BB over 14.1 innings, recording two wins and converting four of five save chances. Barring a trade deadline addition, expect him to man the closer role the rest of the season.

  • Merrill Kelly SP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Merrill Kelly: Undone by defense

Kelly (7-9) took the loss Saturday as the Diamondbacks were downed 4-2 by the Cardinals, giving up four runs (one earned) on five hits and three walks over five innings while striking out five.

Arizona errors in the first and third innings -- one of them his own -- cushioned the blow to Kelly's ERA, but the right-hander still needed 96 pitches (56 strikes) to record 15 outs, only the second time in his last nine starts he failed to complete at least six innings. Kelly will carry a 3.93 ERA and 86:31 K:BB through 110 innings into his next outing Thursday, at home against the Brewers.

  • Jordan Lyles RP | KC

Pirates' Jordan Lyles: Struggles again against Cubs

Lyles allowed seven runs on four hits, four walks and two strikeouts while completing only two-thirds of an inning in a loss to the Cubs on Saturday.

The great start the 28-year-old had to the season is officially gone because of two horrific outings in a row against the Cubs. Lyles has yielded 14 runs and 14 hits in his last 4.2 innings across two starts versus the Cubs, losing both games. It wasn't too long ago that Lyles' ERA was below 3.00, and prior to his last two starts, his ERA sat at 3.71. It's escalated to 5.16 after these two disasters. He is 5-6 with a 1.40 WHIP, .255 batting average against and 80 strikeouts in 75 innings this season. Lyles will look to get on track at home against the Phillies next Friday.

  • Miles Mikolas RP | WAS

Cardinals' Miles Mikolas: Start pushed to Monday

Mikolas will start Monday's game against the Pirates, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

Mikolas was originally scheduled to start Sunday's series finale versus the Diamondbacks, but Adam Wainwright (back) will rejoin the rotation after being scratched Friday. Mikolas finished the first half with an underwhelming 4.53 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 75:17 K:BB over 99.1 innings.

  • Cardinals' Adam Wainwright: Set to start Sunday

Wainwright (back) is scheduled to start Sunday's series finale against the Diamondbacks, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

Wainwright was scratched from Friday's start due to back spasms but will apparently be ready to take the mound after a couple additional days of rest. Previously scheduled starter Miles Mikolas will be pushed back a day and will start Monday versus the Pirates.

  • Cole Hamels SP | SD

Cubs' Cole Hamels: Throws again Saturday

Hamels (oblique) threw off flat ground again Saturday, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.

Hamels has been out since late June with a strained left oblique. He restarted his throwing program Friday and is already throwing on back-to-back days, but his timeline for beginning a rehab assignment is not yet clear.

  • Kyle Freeland SP | COL

Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Called up ahead of start

Freeland was called up to start Saturday against the Reds, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Freeland isn't the same pitcher who finished fourth in the NL Cy Young race and recorded a 2.85 ERA last season, as he was demoted to the minors in late May after posting a 7.13 ERA over 12 starts. His talent level likely hasn't dropped as much as that gap would suggest, as there was some good luck involved in last year's ERA and some bad luck involved in this year's number, but there's nothing exciting about his 18.0 percent strikeout rate, 9.2 percent walk rate or 42.6 percent groundball rate even if he didn't call Coors Field home. Pat Valaika was optioned in a corresponding move.
