Steven Matz RP | TB
Mets' Steven Matz: Improves back to .500 mark
Matz (7-7) allowed two runs on seven hits with two walks and seven strikeouts across 6.2 innings to earn a victory against the Marlins on Wednesday.
Other than the rough start his last time on the mound, Matz has pitched very well since the beginning of July. In five outings since the All-Star break, Matz is 2-1 with a 3.38 ERA. He improved back to the .500 mark with his win Wednesday, and Matz owns a 4.49 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 104 strikeouts in 110.1 innings this season. He will make his next start Wednesday at the Braves.

Jose Quintana SP | COL
Cubs' Jose Quintana: Cruises to 10th win
Quintana (10-7) picked up the win Wednesday, allowing one run on two hits over seven innings while striking out seven in a 10-1 rout of the A's.
The southpaw was in control from the get-go, retiring the first nine batters he faced before a Marcus Semien double to lead off the fourth inning eventually led to Oakland's only run of the game. Quintana threw 60 of 94 pitches for strikes in his 12th quality start of the season, and he'll take a 4.23 ERA and 110:35 K:BB through 129.2 innings into his next outing Tuesday in Philadelphia.

Dustin May SP | MIL
Dodgers' Dustin May: Likely to start at least once more
May is expected to make at least one more start after Wednesday's game against the Cardinals due to Ross Stripling (biceps) suffering a setback, Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register reports.
May pitched well in enough in his debut Friday against the Padres, allowing three earned runs in 5.2 innings. The Dodgers will need a starter during what would have been Stripling's turn next week. May has a good shot to be that guy, though it could partly depend on how he pitches Wednesday against the Cardinals.

Miles Mikolas RP | WAS
Cardinals' Miles Mikolas: Suffers loss despite quality start
Mikolas (7-12) took the loss against the Dodgers on Tuesday, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk in 6.1 innings while striking out seven.
Mikolas was matched up against three-time Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw and was narrowly outpitched, leading to his 12th loss. He yielded only a pair of runs -- none after the third inning -- to pick up his 13th quality start of the season and fourth in his last five outings. Despite a 2-3 record over that five-game span, Mikolas has pitched well, compiling a 2.18 ERA and 1.09 WHIP. He'll try to get back into the win column when he heads to Kansas City on Tuesday to take on the Royals in his next scheduled start.

Chase Anderson RP | TEX
Brewers' Chase Anderson: Settles for no-decision
Anderson allowed two runs on six hits with one walk and four strikeouts across 5.2 innings during a no-decision against the Pirates on Tuesday.
The right-hander made it through five scoreless frames, but then he gave up a pair in the sixth, which cost the Brewers the lead. Anderson didn't make it through the entire sixth, so he wasn't the pitcher of record when Milwaukee retook the lead in the seventh. However, Anderson did allow two or fewer runs for the ninth straight outing Tuesday, which gives him a 2.64 ERA since June 27. Overall, Anderson is 5-2 with a 3.70 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 94 strikeouts in 99.2 innings this season. He will pitch at home against the Twins next Tuesday.

Clayton Kershaw SP | LAD
Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Continues home dominance in victory
Kershaw (11-2) pitched seven innings and allowed one run on four hits and a walk while striking out nine to earn the win over St. Louis on Tuesday.
The three-time Cy Young Award winner limited the Cardinals to a second-inning run to pick up his 11th win and 17th quality start of the season. He effectively kept hitters on their heels by inducing 18 swinging strikes and has now struck out nine or more batters in four of his last six outings after failing to do so in each of his first 14 starts. Not coincidentally, those six appearances represent the southpaw's best stretch this season, as he has gone 4-0 with a 1.63 ERA over that span. To add to the superlatives, Kershaw has been particularly effective at home, compiling an 8-0 record along with a 2.26 ERA and 81:15 K:BB over 79.2 innings this season. He'll head to Miami on Tuesday to take on the Marlins in his next scheduled start.

German Marquez SP | SD
Rockies' German Marquez: Gives up five earned in no-decision
Marquez went five innings in a no-decision against the Astros on Tuesday, giving up five earned runs on eight hits while striking out four as the Rockies lost 11-6. He did not issue a walk.
Marquez had posted three straight solid outings coming into this contest, but he couldn't keep it rolling against Houston, with most of the damage against him coming on a pair of homers he served up to Yordan Alvarez and Yuli Gurriel. The right-hander has racked up good strikeout numbers, but he's having an inconsistent season overall, as this leaves him with a 4.82 ERA through 155 innings -- a disappointing number after he managed a 3.77 mark in 196 innings last year. He'll look to bounce back in his next start, which is scheduled for Sunday on the road against the Padres.

Anthony DeSclafani RP | ARI
Reds' Anthony DeSclafani: Gets win in shaky outing
DeSclafani (7-6) allowed four earned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out five across 5.1 innings to earn the win Tuesday against the Angels.
DeSclafani allowed a three-run home run to Justin Upton in the first inning but surrendered only one run -- a solo shot to Mike Trout -- thereafter. Aside from the two long balls, DeSclafani held the Angels without an extra-base hit and didn't allow any sustained rallies. This effort ended a seven-start stretch in which he allowed three or fewer earned runs, though his value has been limited by his inability to work deep into games as he's completed six innings just three times in his past eight appearances. He's currently scheduled to take his next turn through the rotation Monday at Washington.

Zack Wheeler SP | PHI
Mets' Zack Wheeler: Blanks Marlins for ninth win
Wheeler (9-6) picked up the win in Tuesday's 5-0 victory over the Marlins, allowing eight hits and a walk over eight scoreless innings while striking out five.
The right-hander pounded the zone, throwing 72 of 101 pitches for strikes and starting 22 of 31 batters off with first-pitch strikes, and an underpowered Miami lineup simply wasn't able to do any damage. Wheeler now has a 15-inning scoreless streak going, and he'll carry a 4.20 ERA and 149:35 K:BB through 139.1 innings into his next start Aug. 13 in Atlanta.

Adrian Houser SP | SF
Brewers' Adrian Houser: Receiving another start
Houser will start Saturday's game against the Rangers, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Houser gave up four runs on nine hits over five innings during his last start, but he'll receive another turn through the rotation since Zach Davies (back) was placed on the injured list. Houser has mostly struggled as a starter this season with a 6.82 ERA, 1.82 WHIP and 32:12 K:BB over 33 innings.
