  • Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Recalled ahead of start

Gonsolin was recalled as expected Wednesday ahead of his scheduled start against the Padres.

Gonsolin made one start for the Dodgers back in late July, holding the Diamondbacks scoreless while allowing just one hit over four innings. He now owns an excellent 2.66 ERA through his first 44 big-league innings, though his 21.6 percent strikeout rate, 9.1 percent walk rate and 41.2 percent groundball rate are all worse than league average, leading to a poor 4.96 xFIP. This appears to be just a spot start for the 26-year-old, though he should remain one of the team's top options whenever an additional starter is needed.

  • Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Start moved to Friday

Kershaw's next turn in the rotation will take place Friday against the Angels, Alanna Rizzo of Spectrum SportsNet LA reports.

Kershaw had been expected to pitch the final game of the Dodgers' current series against the Padres, but the team has instead elected to give starters an extra day of rest as they settle into a 17-game stretch without an off day. Tony Gonsolin will be added to the active roster to pitch Wednesday, and Julio Urias will now start in Thursday's series finale.

  • Julio Urias SP | LAD

Dodgers' Julio Urias: Start pushed to Thursday

Urias' next turn in the rotation will come Thursday against the Padres, Alanna Rizzo of Spectrum SportsNet LA reports.

Urias was originally projected to start Wednesday, but manager Dave Roberts ultimately decided to give his rotation an extra day of rest amidst a stretch of 17 consecutive games without an off day. Tony Gonsolin will be recalled from the team's alternate training site to make the start Wednesday.

  • Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Making spot start Wednesday

The Dodgers will recall Gonsolin from their alternate training site to start Wednesday's game against the Padres in Los Angeles, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.

Manager Dave Roberts hasn't let any of his rotation members throw on a typical four days' rest this season, and that trend will continue this week as Gonsolin joins the pitching schedule this week to give the team's other five starters an extra day between turns. While Gonsolin will likely only be making a spot start before getting sent back to the alternate site, he'll at least make for an intriguing streaming option in leagues with daily moves. Gonsolin's lone other appearance with the big club came back on July 31, when he took a no-decision after holding the Diamondbacks scoreless over four innings while giving up one hit and one walk.

  • Tyler Anderson SP | LAA

    Giants' Tyler Anderson: No-decision Tuesday

Anderson didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's contest between the Giants and the Astros. He allowed four runs on five hits and three walks while fanning two across five innings.

Anderson didn't fare as well as he did during his first start of the season -- he pitched five scoreless innings at Colorado on Aug. 6 -- but he should remain in the rotation considering both Jeff Samardzija (shoulder) and Drew Smyly (finger) remain in the injured list. If that's the case, then Anderson's next start could come Aug. 17 on the road against the Angels.

  • Luis Castillo SP | CHW

Reds' Luis Castillo: Delivers quality start

Castillo gave up three runs (one earned) on seven hits and two walks over six innings during Tuesday's extra-inning win over the Royals. He had five strikeouts and did not factor in the decision.

The right-hander wasn't exactly dominant with his lowest strikeout total of the season, but he exited in line for the win before Cincinnati's bullpen surrendered two runs in the eighth inning. Castillo has a 3.91 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 31:8 K:BB through four starts (23 innings) and has a favorable matchup versus the Pirates on Sunday.

  • Dodgers' Ross Stripling: Falters in first loss

Stripling (3-1) took the loss against San Diego on Tuesday, pitching 4.2 innings and allowing six runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out four.

Only two of the runs charged to Stripling were earned, though he played a part in his own demise with a third-inning throwing error that allowed a run to score and contributed to a five-run frame for San Diego. Four of those runs came on a grand slam by Manny Machado, and Stripling served up another long ball -- to Jurickson Profar -- in the fifth inning. The outing was the shortest of the campaign for Stripling, who saw his three-start win streak end with the loss. He'll try to get back on track when he heads down the road to face the Angels on Sunday in his next scheduled start.

  • Braves' Touki Toussaint: Struggles versus Yanks

Toussaint (0-1) was charged with the loss Tuesday against the Yankees after allowing six runs (five earned) on four hits with three strikeouts and one walk over four innings.

The 24-year-old surrendered a three-run homer to Luke Voit in the opening frame, and he gave up another three spot during the third inning to doom his start. Toussaint will carry a 7.27 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 23:5 K:BB into his next outing, which lines up for Sunday in Miami.

  • Zac Gallen SP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Takes no-decision against Rockies

Gallen gave up two runs on seven hits and struck out seven in seven innings in a no-decision versus the Rockies on Tuesday.

Gallen was locked in a pitchers' duel with Kyle Freeland for much of the game. The only damage on Gallen's line was a two-run homer from Nolan Arenado in the fourth inning. The right-handed Gallen trimmed his ERA to 2.74 with a 1.17 WHIP and 28 strikeouts in 23 innings this season. Tuesday's outing was the first in which he did not walk a batter. The 25-year-old is expected to face the Padres at home Sunday in his next start.

  • Kyle Freeland SP | COL

Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Seven strong innings Tuesday

Freeland allowed two runs on seven hits and walk and struck out two over seven innings in a no-decision Tuesday versus the Diamondbacks.

Freeland dueled with Diamondbacks starter Zac Gallen effectively across seven innings before both bullpens had some dodgy moments. The only damage on Freeland's line came in the form of solo home runs by Christian Walker and Carson Kelly. The 27-year-old Freeland has a 2.45 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 13 strikeouts across 25.2 innings this season. He's expected to make his next start at home Sunday versus the Rangers.
