  • Zac Gallen SP | ARI

    Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Dominates Giants

Gallen (1-0) earned the win Friday against the Giants. He tossed seven innings of one-run ball, allowing five hits and one walk while fanning five.

Gallen was originally expected to start Thursday against the Rockies, but he ended facing the Giants on Friday after the game against Colorado got postponed. The extra day of rest didn't affect Gallen, though, as the 25-year-old righty delivered another impressive outing. He's been Arizona's best starter by a wide margin this season, as he is yet to allow more than two earned runs in seven outings and owns an excellent 2.09 ERA in 2020.

  • Cardinals' Jake Woodford: Works in long relief

Woodford gave up two runs on five hits and struck out three over 3.1 relief innings in Friday's loss to Cleveland.

Woodford relieved starter Daniel Ponce de Leon, who couldn't complete the first inning. Over his outing, Woodford did a decent job of keeping the game close. The right-hander has a 2.61 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and seven strikeouts across 10.1 innings this year. Three of his four appearances have come in a long-relief role. As a starter with Triple-A Memphis last year, he posted a 4.15 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 131:75 K:BB in 151.2 innings.

  • David Peterson SP | CHC

Mets' David Peterson: Allows three runs in return

Peterson allowed three runs on four hits and three walks while striking out three over four innings in Friday's Game 2 win against the Yankees. He didn't factor into the decision.

Peterson was relatively effective in his first start since dealing with shoulder inflammation, but he allowed a rally in the third inning. As a result, he had to settle for the no-decision. The southpaw now carries a 3.51 ERA over 25.2 innings in his first five starts this season and should be available going forward. His next start should come at home Thursday against the Yankees.

  • Zach Davies SP | WAS

Padres' Zach Davies: Notches fifth win

Davies (5-2) earned the Friday after holding the Rockies to four (unearned) runs on five hits and two walks while striking out six across 5.2 innings.

Davies struggled in the first inning, giving up back-to-back singles and a walk, setting up Matt Kemp for a three-run home run. Luckily, the runs were unearned due to a missed catch error by Eric Hosmer. The 27-year-old Davies kept Colorado's bats quiet the rest of the way, exiting with two outs in the sixth following his 93rd pitch of the night. Davies has been solid this season, with his only rough outing of the year coming at Coors Field earlier this month, when he allowed three runs over five innings. The right-hander will carry a 2.61 ERA and 0.90 WHIP into next Friday's matchup at Oakland.

  • Kyle Freeland SP | COL

Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Struggles in no-decision

Freeland took a no-decision during Friday's loss to the Padres, surrendering four runs on 11 hits while striking out two across 4.1 innings.

Freeland held the Padres scoreless until the fourth inning, when he allowed an RBI single to Jorge Mateo. The 27-year-old then unraveled in the fifth, giving up four hits including back-to-back doubles, resulting in three runs. With one out and the score tied, Freeland was replaced with reliever Jeff Hoffman. The southpaw threw 47-of-77 pitches for strikes while tying a career-worst with 11 hits. On the bright side, Freeland didn't issue any walks for the second time this season, although it was his first non-quality start. Freeland has now recorded four no-decisions in his last five outings. He'll bring a 3.43 ERA and 1.26 WHIP into a Wednesday contest against the Giants.

  • Corbin Burnes SP | ARI

Brewers' Corbin Burnes: Tosses six scoreless innings

Burnes (1-0) pitched six scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out 10 in Friday's 9-1 win over the Pirates.

Burnes was excellent in just about all facets of his outing Friday, as the three hits he allowed were all singles. None of his four baserunners got past first base. The 10 strikeouts were also his best mark in seven appearances this year. Burnes now has a 2.78 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 46 strikeouts across 32.1 innings this season. The 25-year-old right lines up to face Cleveland next Friday.

  • Kyle Hendricks SP | LAA

Cubs' Kyle Hendricks: Serves up two homers in loss

Hendricks (3-4) allowed five runs on 10 hits over six innings in a loss to the Reds on Friday. He struck out six and did not issue a walk.

Hendricks' two worst starts this season have come in Great American Ball Park; he's allowed 11 of his 20 total earned runs and three of his six homers in those two starts. He had to deal with some rain in addition to the small dimensions Friday, and Hendricks now has an ERA north of 4.00 on the season after beginning his year with an Opening Day shutout. However, Hendricks is still pretty much in line with expectations and things will get a bit easier with a road start in Pittsburgh next up, followed by a home start against the Cardinals.

  • Tyler Mahle SP | ATL

Reds' Tyler Mahle: Fans 11 in win

Mahle (1-1) allowed two runs on two hits -- both home runs -- over 6.2 innings in a win over the Cubs on Friday. He struck out 11 and walked two.

After allowing solo homers to Anthony Rizzo and Kyle Schwarber in the first inning, Mahle was dominant the rest of the way, touching 97 mph with his fastball and flashing a nasty splitter. In total, Mahle racked up 20 called strikes and 19 swinging strikes on 106 pitches. The right-hander has bounced between the rotation and bullpen early on this season, but it's difficult to see him moving back to relief anytime soon with the way he's pitching (3.91 ERA, 32:10 K:BB), especially considering the Reds have a couple doubleheaders in the next week. A home matchup against the Cardinals is next on the docket.

  • Mets' Michael Wacha: Gives up four runs in return

Wacha allowed four runs on six hits and one walk while striking out seven over three innings in Friday's Game 1 win against the Yankees. He didn't factor into the decision.

Wacha had been on the injured list since Aug. 9, but he returned to the mound after recovering from shoulder inflammation. He didn't last very long in the first game of Friday's twin bill as his ERA continues to creep up. The right-hander has now made four starts this season and carries a 7.41 ERA and 25:6 K:BB over 17 innings. He should take the mound again on the road Wednesday against the Orioles.

  • David Peterson SP | CHC

Mets' David Peterson: Activated ahead of start

Peterson (shoulder) was activated from the 10-day injured list ahead of Friday's start against the Yankees, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Peterson was sidelined for 15 days while dealing with left shoulder inflammation, but he'll start the second game of Friday's twin bill. It's unclear whether he'll have any workload restrictions Friday, but he should be available in the starting rotation going forward.
