  • Luis Castillo SP | CHW

    Reds' Luis Castillo: Backward steps

Castillo (1-7) got the loss Sunday against the Brewers, allowing five runs on five hits and four walks over five innings, striking out five.

After an encouraging outing against the Giants on Tuesday, this outing wiped out that progress. The Brewers jumped on him early, scoring three runs in the first inning, an inning that continues to be a problem for him. He generated 13 whiffs on 44 swings.

  • Zack Wheeler SP | PHI

Phillies' Zack Wheeler: Fans 12 in win

Wheeler (4-2) allowed one run on three hits and a walk while striking out 12 in 7.1 innings to earn the win against the Red Sox on Sunday.

Wheeler was forced to settle for no-decisions in his last two outings, but he struck out a season-high 12 batters to pick up his fourth win of the year Sunday. The right-hander has now recorded double-digit strikeout totals in each of his last two starts and has posted a 2.38 ERA and 0.94 WHIP in 68 innings this season. He tentatively lines up to make his next start on the road against Tampa Bay on Saturday.

  • Patrick Corbin SP | TOR

Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Returns to win column

Corbin (3-3) allowed four runs on 11 hits and two walks while striking out three in 5.2 innings to earn the win against the Orioles on Sunday.

Corbin struggled early in Sunday's contest, as he allowed four consecutive singles to begin the game and gave up three earned runs in the top of the first inning. However, the Nationals gave him just enough run support to return to the win column. The southpaw has recorded a 6.13 ERA and 1.55 WHIP in 47 innings this season. Corbin tentatively lines up to make his next start at home against the Brewers on Saturday.

  • Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Efficient in first rehab start

Gonsolin (shoulder) tossed three scoreless frames in his rehab start Sunday for Triple-A Oklahoma City. He gave up one hit (a double) and struck out three while walking none over his 38-pitch appearance.

The Dodgers initially planned for Gonsolin to cover only two innings in his first rehab outing, but because he was economical with his pitch count over the initial two frames, he was allowed to work an extra inning. Gonsolin looked about as sharp as the Dodgers could have hoped in his first game action of the season, and he should be cleared to push his pitch count above 50 when he makes his second rehab start later this week. Gonsolin appears on track to return from the 60-day injured list and join the big-league rotation at some point in early June.

  • Miles Mikolas RP | WAS

Cardinals' Miles Mikolas: Team encouraged by MRI

Manager Mike Shildt said that Mikolas' right forearm is "structurally intact" after the 32-year-old underwent an MRI on Sunday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

After missing the first month and a half of the season with a sore shoulder, Mikolas finally returned from the 10-day injured list to make his season debut in Saturday's win over the Cubs. He was sharp over his four innings, but forearm tightness resulted in an early end to his start. The Cardinals moved him back to the IL a day later, and though Mikolas appears to have avoided a significant setback, he'll still likely need more than the minimum 10 days to recover from the injury. Johan Oviedo is the leading candidate to replace Mikolas in St. Louis' rotation.

  • Max Fried SP | NYY

Braves' Max Fried: Strong across seven innings in win

Fried (2-2) earned the win Sunday, allowing a run on four hits and three walks with two strikeouts in seven innings versus Pittsburgh.

Fried allowed an RBI double to Bryan Reynolds in the first inning, but he was able to lock it down after that. The southpaw didn't miss a turn through the rotation after he was pulled from last Monday's game with hand cramps. The 27-year-old has allowed just a single run in each of his last four starts since returning from a hamstring strain. He's gotten his season back on track with the successful run and now has a 4.63 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 34:14 K:BB in 35 innings overall. Fried lines up to face the Mets next weekend.

  • Pirates' JT Brubaker: Falters again in Atlanta

Brubaker (3-4) allowed seven runs on seven hits and struck out seven over 5.1 innings in a loss to Atlanta on Sunday. He also hit one batter.

Brubaker's inability to limit baserunners made the three home runs he allowed -- two to Austin Riley, one to Dansby Swanson -- hurt all that much more. It was a second consecutive poor outing for the right-hander, who gave up five runs on eight hits and three walks to St. Louis on Tuesday. Brubaker's recent skid has pushed his ERA to 4.20 with a 1.24 WHIP and 51:12 K:BB across 49.1 innings. He'll look to get back on track next weekend at home versus Colorado.

  • Logan Webb SP | SF

Giants' Logan Webb: Plays catch Sunday

Webb (shoulder) is playing catch Sunday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The 24-year-old landed on the injured list with a left shoulder strain Thursday, so his quick return to throwing is an encouraging sign for his recovery. The Giants previously expressed optimism Webb would miss only one start due to the injury, though it remains to be seen if he's able to return from the injured list Friday when eligible.

  • Slade Cecconi SP | CLE

Diamondbacks' Slade Cecconi: Returns from wrist injury

Cecconi (wrist) has made two starts for High-A Hillsboro, giving up a run on three hits and three walks while striking out 10 over 7.2 innings.

Cecconi's professional debut was delayed slightly after he suffered a minor injury to his non-throwing wrist during minor-league spring training, but he was cleared to join the Hillsboro rotation in mid-May. The 21-year-old has looked good through his first two turns in the rotation, holding opposing hitters to a lowly .125 average thus far.

  • Miles Mikolas RP | WAS

Cardinals' Miles Mikolas: Lands on injured list

Mikolas was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday with right forearm tightness.

The 32-year-old returned from the injured list Saturday and made his first start since late 2019 after missing the beginning of the season with a shoulder injury, but he was lifted after experiencing forearm tightness. Mikolas also missed the entirety of last season due to forearm surgery, so another arm injury is a worrisome development. The right-hander's recovery timeline should come into focus once the results of his MRI are announced.
