Gibson will take the mound to open the third inning Wednesday as the Dodgers and Phillies come out of a weather delay, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Gibson was a late scratch as Wednesday's starter, but it was simply a move from manager Joe Girardi to combat potential inclement weather, which ended up delaying the contest after two innings amid a scoreless tie.

Alcantara (7-10) picked up the win in Wednesday's 7-0 victory over the Padres, giving up four hits and two walks over seven scoreless innings. He struck out seven.

The right-hander came roaring back after his 10-run disaster at Coors Field in his last outing, firing 65 of 104 pitches for strikes. Alcantara had delivered three quality starts in his last four trips to the mound, giving him 16 on the season, and he sports a 3.52 ERA and 128:42 K:BB through 143.1 innings.

Greene was scratched from his scheduled start at Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday due to irritation in his right AC joint, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Although Greene will be unable to take the mound Wednesday, he's still expected to be ready to make his next turn through the rotation. The right-hander has made nine starts since he was promoted to Triple-A Louisville in mid-June, and he's recorded a 3.63 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in 44.2 innings.

DeSclafani (shoulder) is scheduled to return from the injured list Friday to start against the Rockies, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

DeSclafani has been on the injured list since Aug. 4 due to right shoulder fatigue, but he'll return to action following a minimal absence. The right-hander has posted a 6.63 ERA and 1.47 WHIP in 19 innings across four starts since the All-Star break.

Cueto was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right flexor strain Wednesday, retroactive to Aug. 9.

Cueto gave up four runs (three earned) in 5.1 innings during Sunday's start against the Brewers, but he was apparently dealing with an injury that may have contributed to his struggles. The right-hander missed nearly a month with a lat issue earlier in the season, but manager Gabe Kapler said that the 35-year-old's current injury is considered minor, and the team hopes he'll be able to return after missing just one start, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports. The Giants haven't yet announced who will take Cueto's spot in the rotation.

Gibson was scratched from his scheduled start Tuesday against the Dodgers for an undisclosed reason, Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.

The Phillies didn't provide a reason for the right-hander's late scratch, but Connor Brogdon will begin the game on the mound. It's not yet clear when Gibson will be able to return.

Low-A Fredericksburg returned Rutledge (finger) to the 7-day injured list Wednesday after he suffered a recurrence of a blister on his pitching hand during his start Tuesday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Rutledge was on the shelf for about two weeks due to the blister before gaining clearance to start Tuesday's contest, but he faced only five hitters before bowing out of the contest. The Nationals could opt to shut Rutledge down for a longer period of time following the setback, which may make it a challenge for the 22-year-old to make another appearance before season's end. Through three starts with Fredricksburg this season, Rutledge has worked 9.1 innings and has given up six earned runs on eight hits and five walks while striking out 13.

Mikolas (forearm) will make his next rehab start Saturday with Double-A Springfield, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

The right-hander made his last rehab start Sunday and will go nearly a week between appearances, as he rejoined the big-league club this week for a throwing session. Mikolas surrendered seven runs in that previous outing, but he covered 5.2 innings and should be in the mix for the big-league rotation after starting Saturday for Springfield.

The Brewers optioned Ashby to Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday.

As expected, Ashby will return to the minors after he was designated as the Brewers' 27th man for their doubleheader sweep of the Cubs on Tuesday. Though he started the second game of the twin bill, he acted as more of an opener in the contest, working two scoreless frames before giving way to the bullpen.

The Mets are expected to recall Williams from Triple-A Syracuse to start Thursday's game against the Nationals, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

After Tuesday's contest was suspended in the second inning due to inclement weather, the Mets and Nationals are playing a de facto doubleheader Wednesday. The twin bill creates a stretch of six games in five days for the Mets, so Williams will likely slot into the rotation temporarily as the team's No. 6 starter. Before being acquired from the Cubs ahead of the trade deadline, Williams made 13 appearances (12 starts) in the big leagues, logging a 5.06 ERA and 1.53 WHIP while striking out 61 over 58.2 innings.
