  • Austin Gomber SP | TEX

Rockies' Austin Gomber: Activated ahead of start

Gomber was activated off the paternity list as expected ahead of his scheduled start Friday against Arizona.

Gomber was previously expected to start Wednesday against the Padres but had his outing pushed back two days while he went on paternity leave. He'll still be pitching at Coors Field but will now be doing so against a team that's been far worse at the plate this season than San Diego, as the Diamondbacks rank 27th in the league in wRC+ compared to 12th for the Padres.

  • Patrick Corbin SP | TOR

Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Confirmed as Friday's starter

Corbin will be the starting pitcher for Friday's game against the Brewers, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

While Corbin has long lined up to take the ball Friday, the club took until just a few hours before first pitch to confirm his as the starter for the series opener. The veteran southpaw is in the midst of a down season in which he's posted a 6.04 ERA and 1.44 WHIP across 126.2 innings, but he seems extremely unlikely to lose his spot in the starting rotation given his resume and contract, and Washington's lack of other options.

  • Mets' Noah Syndergaard: Throwing another live BP

Syndergaard (elbow) is scheduled to throw live batting practice Saturday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

The right-hander progressed to facing hitters Tuesday and will throw live batting practice again this weekend. Assuming all goes well, Syndergaard could begin a rehab assignment in the near future, and his return from the injured list could happen soon afterward, as he's expected to work as a reliever down the stretch for the Mets.

  • Miles Mikolas RP | WAS

Cardinals' Miles Mikolas: Reinstated for Friday's start

Mikolas (forearm) was activated from the 60-day injured list and will start Friday against the Pirates.

The right-hander began the season on the injured list and made his lone big-league appearance May 22 before returning to the shelf with a forearm injury, and he'll be back on the mound for the Cardinals in Friday's series opener. Mikolas covered seven innings and threw 86 pitches in his final rehab start last weekend, so he shouldn't face significant workload limitations. He has a favorable matchup versus Pittsburgh, which has scored the fewest runs in the league.

  • Jacob deGrom SP | TEX

Mets' Jacob deGrom: Shifts to 60-day IL

DeGrom (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Friday, though the Mets said in a press release his "status and return timeline remain unchanged," Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

The right-hander will now be eligible to return from the injured list Sept. 13, but that won't affect his return timeline since he's already expected to remain shut down from throwing until at least Aug. 27. A return in mid-September appears to be the best-case scenario for deGrom, and his recovery timetable won't come into focus until he starts up his throwing program.

  • Zack Wheeler SP | PHI

Phillies' Zack Wheeler: Gives up six runs Thursday

Wheeler (10-8) was tagged with the loss Thursday against Arizona after allowing six runs on seven hits and a walk across 6.2 innings, striking out seven.

Wheeler pitched a complete game against the Mets earlier this month, but his recent performances have left a lot to be desired with Thursday's outing not being any different. He has allowed at least four runs in three of his last four appearances and has posted a 4.34 ERA across 29 innings in that span.

  • Luis Castillo SP | CHW

Reds' Luis Castillo: Whiffs seven in win

Castillo (7-12) allowed one earned run on eight hits and one walk while striking out seven across seven innings Thursday, earning the win over the Marlins.

Castillo's one run against him came in the fourth inning on a Jorge Alfaro single. He allowed just one extra-base hit through seven innings. Over his last seven outings, six have been quality starts. He carries a 4.35 ERA and 1.40 WHIP with 145 strikeouts in 144.2 innings. His next start is projected to come Wednesday in Milwaukee.

  • Taijuan Walker SP | LAA

Mets' Taijuan Walker: Takes loss against Dodgers

Walker (7-8) took the loss in Thursday's 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Dodgers, allowing four runs on six hits and one walk with four strikeouts in six innings.

Walker kept the Dodgers in the park but was tagged for two runs in both the second and fifth innings, and the Mets offense failed to provide any worthwhile run support. The veteran righty has a covered at least six frames in each of his past three starts and has a 3.86 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 13:5 K:BB over 18.2 innings during that stretch. He tentatively lines up for another tough matchup with the Giants next week.

  • Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Rare disappointing start

Woodruff (7-7) took the loss in Thursday's 8-4 defeat at the hands of the Cardinals, allowing six runs on eight hits and one walk with four strikeouts across five innings.

Woodruff was solid through the first four innings, allowing a single run, but fell apart in the fifth, permitting five runs on five hits to put Milwaukee in a 6-4 hole. The start was Woodruff's first allowing more than five runs in 24 turns, and he now possesses a 2.48 ERA, which is still top five in MLB, a 0.94 WHIP and 167:37 K:BB.

  • Kwang Hyun Kim SP | STL

Cardinals' Kwang Hyun Kim: Hit hard in rehab start

Kim (elbow) allowed two earned runs on a pair of solo home runs across two innings in a rehab start for Triple-A Memphis against Nashville on Thursday. He struck out two.

Kim threw 34 pitches overall, 22 of which found the strike zone. The left-hander's troubles with the long ball aside, it appears his recovering elbow held up well under a solid workload. Kim is likely due for at least another pair of rehab outings before activation is deemed appropriate, although he could return to the big-league club before he's fully built back up to a starter's workload.
