Contreras (2-2) allowed seven runs on five hits and two walks over 1.2 innings Friday, striking out one and taking a loss against Milwaukee.

Contreras coughed up seven runs -- including three homers -- in a disastrous second inning that he failed to complete. His final pitch of the outing resulted in a three-run shot by Rowdy Tellez. Over his last five starts, the right-handed rookie has posted a brutal 6.53 ERA with a 17:13 K:BB. Contreras' season ERA is up to 4.09; it's the highest his ERA has been since he allowed two runs out of the bullpen in his season debut. The 22-year-old is projected to start in Cincinnati next week.

Senzatela left Friday's game versus the Diamondbacks with right shoulder inflammation and tightness, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports.

Senzatela lasted only two innings, giving up three runs on four hits and a walk with one strikeout en route to his fifth loss of the year. Manager Bud Black indicated the Rockies would know more about the right-hander's injury after further evaluation Saturday, which puts him in doubt for his next start. He has a 4.95 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and 34:15 K:BB through 60 innings this year. Senzatela previously missed time with a lower-back strain in May.

Kelly (7-5) allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk with three strikeouts in seven innings Friday, earning the win over the Rockies.

Kelly has alternated good and bad starts over his last five games, with Friday being one of the better performances. He gave up a run on a double play in the fifth inning and a Ryan McMahon solo home run in the seventh, which was just the sixth homer Kelly's given up all year. The right-hander has a 3.46 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 74:31 K:BB in 91 innings across 16 starts. He's projected for a home start against the Giants next week.

Williams will start Saturday against the Rangers, Deesha Thosar of the New York Daily News reports.

Williams has filled a swingman role this season, starting six games and working out of the bullpen in eight more. He pitched in relief in his most recent outing Tuesday against the Astros, throwing 2.1 frames, but he's needed in the rotation again after Chris Bassitt landed on the COVID-19 injured list.

Flaherty (shoulder) won't throw for at least two or three weeks, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Flaherty missed over two months to start the season due to a shoulder injury, and his return lasted for only three poor starts before he was placed back on the injured list. His second absence won't be a brief one, and he'll be re-evaluated in two weeks. He'll still need to build back up once he's cleared to begin throwing, so it will be quite some time before he's back on a big-league mound.

DeSclafani was placed on the injured list Friday with right ankle inflammation, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

DeSclafani missed two months with the same issue earlier in the season, and he didn't look anything close to good in two starts since his return, giving up 12 runs in 5.2 combined innings. The Giants are worried about the recurrence of the injury, and surgery is on the table, Pavlovic reports. Jakob Junis (hamstring) is expected to eventually fill DeSclafani's spot in the rotation, but the team may have to go with a bullpen game or two until Junis ready to return.

Lodolo (back) is expected to be activated off the 60-day injured list and start Tuesday against the Mets.

Lodolo has been out since late April as he has been dealing with a back strain, and his return has been postponed multiple times. He has produced a 2.53 ERA and 1.37 WHIP with 16 strikeouts over 10.2 frames in three starts with Triple-A Louisville. Lodolo built up to 4.2 innings and 78 pitches in his last outing for Louisville, and he will look to improve upon the 5.52 ERA and 1.57 WHIP he compiled in the majors over three starts in April.

Peterson will start Friday against the Rangers after Chris Bassitt was placed on the injured list without a designation, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

While it's short notice for Peterson, he will be on normal rest, having last pitched June 26. He went seven innings and fanned a season-high eight batters in his last outing and now has a 3.18 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 27:9 K:BB over his last five appearances (22.2 innings). The lefty will be matched up opposite Glenn Otto in Friday's contest.

Bassitt was scratched from his scheduled start Friday against the Rangers and was placed on the injured list without a designation, Deesha Thosar of the New York Daily News reports.

David Peterson will step in to start for the Mets on Friday, while R.J. Alvarez will take Bassitt's roster spot and could step in for a spot start this weekend. Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports that it's a non-injury issue for Bassitt. His timetable to return is up in the air given the uncertainty of the situation.

Smyly (oblique) will pitch another bullpen session Friday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Smyly has been sidelined since the beginning of June, but he's ramped up his activity recently. He will likely need a multiple outing rehab assignment in the coming weeks, putting his potential return right around the All-Star break.
