Yamamoto (11-8) allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out six over six innings to earn the win over the Padres on Sunday.

Yamamoto gave up a two-run home run to Elias Diaz in the third inning, but that was the extent of the damage. This was Yamamoto's second straight quality start following a six-run disaster versus the Angels on Aug. 11, though he has allowed one homer in three straight starts. The 27-year-old is still having a strong season with a 2.90 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 157:48 K:BB through 139.2 innings through 25 starts. He's projected to make his next start at home versus the Diamondbacks.

Taillon was removed from his start in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Angels in the fifth inning due to left groin tightness, Patrick Mooney of The Athletic reports.

Taillon ended up picking up his second straight win to improve his record to 9-6, and he tossed five innings of one-run ball while striking out three batters and allowing three hits and no walks. After the game, Taillon referred to the injury as a "small cramp" in his left groin, per Bruce Levine of 670TheScore.com, and manager Craig Counsell added that the right-hander's removal from the game was precautionary. Taillon can be considered day-to-day for the time being, but assuming he's able to make it through his between-starts bullpen session without issue, he'll likely return to the hill Saturday in Colorado.

Pivetta allowed two runs on two hits and three walks while striking out seven over six innings in a no-decision versus the Dodgers on Sunday.

Pivetta allowed multiple runs for just the third time in his last 11 starts, earning his ninth quality start in that span. He also gave up a home run for the fourth time in five starts, though the long ball has not been a significant issue for him this year. Pivetta is now at a 2.82 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 161:41 K:BB through 153.1 innings over 26 starts. His next start is projected to be on the road versus the Twins.

Sears is slated to start Monday's game against the Mariners in Seattle, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

The Padres will award Sears a second turn through the rotation after he delivered a quality start upon being called up from Triple-A El Paso last Wednesday, when he picked up a win while limiting the Giants to one run over six innings. The southpaw may not be in line for any additional starts beyond Monday regardless of how he performs against the Mariners, as Michael King (knee) could be ready to return from the 15-day injured list to replace him in the rotation by the end of the week.

King (knee) completed a three-inning, 44-pitch simulated game Saturday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

King doesn't appear on track to return from the 15-day injured list Tuesday when first eligible, but since he's already started facing live hitters, he won't require much additional time before slotting back into the San Diego rotation. The Padres will likely check back in on King and see how he's feeling coming out of the sim game before deciding if he needs a minor-league rehab start prior to being activated or if he'll be able to rejoin the big club to make a start during next weekend's series in Minnesota.

Ray did not factor into the decision Sunday against the Brewers, allowing three runs on six hits and four walks over five innings. He didn't record a strikeout.

While Ray was able to limit the damage for the most part Sunday, it was a shaky outing overall for the left-hander, who issued four free passes while failing to record a strikeout for the first time this season. Ray had been pitching well coming into the day, posting a 2.59 ERA in his previous five starts (31.1 innings). Overall, he's 10-6 with a 2.93 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 158:61 K:BB across 27 starts spanning 159.2 innings this season. Ray is currently slated to face the Orioles at home his next time out.

Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said Sale (ribcage) will likely be activated from the 60-day injured list to start Saturday's game in Philadelphia, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

With Sale checking out well physically following his third and final rehab start Saturday for Triple-A Gwinnett, he'll be on track to rejoin the Atlanta rotation one week later for what will be his first start with the big club since June 18. Before suffering a left ribcage fracture in his start against the Mets that day, Sale had delivered an impressive encore to his Cy Young-winning season in 2024, turning in a 2.52 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 114:26 K:BB in 89.1 innings with Atlanta. The veteran lefty tossed 77 pitches in his final outing with Gwinnett and could have his workload monitored carefully Saturday, but fantasy managers will likely still want to activate Sale this week as he rejoins the big club.

Wiggins struck out two batters and allowed no hits and two walks over three scoreless innings for Double-A Knoxville in his start Sunday.

Wiggins hadn't pitched since July 19 in what appears to have been a deliberate plan on the Cubs' part to limit the 23-year-old righty's workload in his second season following 2023 Tommy John surgery. Wiggins didn't exhibit any signs of rust in his return and owns a shiny 1.93 ERA and 50:17 K:BB in 38 innings for Knoxville on the season.

The Brewers recalled Patrick from Triple-A Nashville to start Sunday against the Giants, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

The right-hander was temporarily promoted for a spot start during Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cubs and will rejoin the Brewers to close out the weekend series versus the Giants. Patrick took the loss in Chicago after giving up five runs (three earned), but he's mostly been an effective rotation piece during his rookie season with a 3.61 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 99:32 K:BB over 99.2 innings at the big-league level.

Gasser (elbow) struck out two batters while scattering one hit and two walks over four scoreless innings in his most recent rehab start Tuesday for Triple-A Nashville.

The 26-year-old lefty is seemingly approaching the finish line in his recovery from June 2024 Tommy John surgery. Over three starts since his rehab assignment was shifted to Nashville, Gasser has turned in a 1.00 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 8:4 K:BB in nine innings. With his 30-day rehab window coming to an end, the Brewers could choose to activate him from the 60-day injured list and have him start or serve as a bulk reliever Sunday against the Giants in an effort to build in an extra day of rest for the team's current rotation members.
