The Mets optioned Peterson to Triple-A Syracuse following Saturday's doubleheader with the Phillies, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.

Because he was designated as the Mets' 27th man for the twin bill, Peterson will temporarily move off the active roster after he struck out six and allowed three earned runs over 4.2 innings en route to taking the loss in Game 2 of Saturday's twin bill. As Britton notes, Peterson had to be designated as the 27th man in order to rejoin the Mets since he hadn't spent the minimum 15 days in the minors following his Aug. 6 demotion, but he'll still be eligible to be recalled later this week when New York requires a new fifth starter to replace the injured Carlos Carrasco (oblique). Unless the Mets decide to take advantage of Wednesday's off day to get by with a four-man rotation during the upcoming week, Peterson should rejoin the Mets next weekend to make a start against the Rockies at Citi Field.

Overton (back) tweaked his hamstring while ramping up in Arizona and is without a clear timeline to begin a rehab assignment, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Overton has resided on the 60-day injured list since May 23 due to a stress reaction in his lower back, but he was believed to be tracking toward a return at some point in September. Though he hasn't been shut down from throwing and will continue to do long toss, the hamstring issue presents a new hurdle he'll have to overcome before facing hitters and eventually pitching in games. He may not have enough time to build up for a starting role and may be relegated to the bullpen if he rejoins the Reds at any point in 2022.

Perez is on the 7-day injured list at Double-A Pensacola due to arm fatigue, Alex Carver of Fish on the Farm reports.

It seemed like something might be up with Perez when he gave up 13 earned runs over his last 11 innings (three appearances), and the arm issue was likely bothering him, at least in his most recent outing when he gave up six earned runs and recorded just four outs. On the season, the 6-foot-8 righty has a 4.19 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 102 strikeouts in 73 innings while pitching as a 19-year-old at Double-A.

The Mets recalled Butto from Triple-A Syracuse prior to his start Sunday against the Phillies.

Butto is set to make his big-league debut after throwing only six innings with Triple-A. He has spent the majority of the season with Double-A Binghamton, where he maintained a 4.00 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 108:35 K:BB across 92.1 innings. Butto isn't likely to stick in the rotation, as the Mets were in need of an extra starter due to a doubleheader Saturday.

Miley's left shoulder did not respond well after a rehab outing Tuesday, and he has been shut down from throwing, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Miley appeared to be nearing a return to the rotation, but he will now be limited to rest and treatment. The setback will likely put Miley's season in jeopardy, though he could ramp back up to take a few turns through the rotation prior to the close of the campaign.

Stroman did not factor into the decision against the Brewers on Saturday, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out five and walking four over 7.2 innings.

Stroman tossed 62 of 96 pitches for strikes Saturday. One of Stroman's two earned runs came in the eighth inning after he was relieved by Rowan Wick, when Willy Adames knocked in Christian Yelich. With the two-run outing, Stroman picked up a quality start, his seventh of the year and his fourth in his last six games. In his last three starts, the righty has lowered his ERA from 4.20 to where it currently sits at 3.83.

Peralta did not factor into the decision against the Cubs on Saturday, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out five and walking three over six innings.

Peralta earned a quality start in Saturday's contest, but with the game going to extra innings, he did not factor into the decision. He threw 54 of 95 pitches for strikes and allowed two runs to score on a Willson Contreras homer in the fifth inning. The effort was his third quality start of the year and lowered his ERA to 4.08.

Williams allowed four hits and two walks while striking out three across four scoreless innings in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Phillies. He did not factor into the decision.

Williams was forced into the rotation due to the doubleheader and also because Taijuan Walker (back) and Carlos Carrasco (oblique) are both unavailable. Williams has pitched primarily out of the bullpen this season and wasn't fully stretched out, causing the short outing. However, he was effective while he remained on the mound, holding the Phillies without an extra-base hit. If Walker can return for a start Tuesday as currently projected, Williams will likely shift back to the bullpen.

Peterson was called up from Triple-A Syracuse prior to the start, and he should stick in the rotation thanks to the absence of Carlos Carrasco (oblique). He didn't have his best performance against the Phillies, though he managed to strand three runners in scoring position to avoid any further damage. Peterson entered the game having allowed fewer than three earned runs in seven of his last nine outings while maintaining a 56:18 K:BB across 39 frames, so he should experience more success moving forward.

Gray didn't factor into the decision during Saturday's 2-1 loss to San Diego, allowing one run on four hits and five walks with three strikeouts in five innings.

Gray put runners on in every frame and could have fared far worse had he not escaped bases-loaded jams in the first and third innings. The 24-year-old was able to find the zone with only 55 of his 102 pitches while the five free passes mark his highest total of the season, and he's issued multiple walks in six of his last seven turns. Gray's 3.9 BB/9 rank second worst among 59 qualified starters, though his 1.31 WHIP is decent thanks to a 13th ranked .256 BABIP. He carries a 4.67 ERA into his next start, scheduled for next weekend against Cincinnati.
