Wheeler (forearm) threw a bullpen session Tuesday and will throw again Friday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

Despite a setback in early September that delayed his return, Wheeler has been making solid progress in rehabbing his forearm. If he continues to show signs of improvement during what will either be another bullpen session or a live batting practice Friday, it is reasonable to expect him to rejoin the team within a week and skip on a minor-league assignment.

Garrett was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Garrett started Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Rangers and gave up two runs over 4.2 innings, and he won't remain with the big-league club. The 25-year-old has a 3.68 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 75:19 K:BB across 73.1 frames this year, so he figures to rejoin the Marlins at some point down the stretch.

Gonsolin (forearm) wasn't able to throw at full intensity during his bullpen session Sunday, but he'll have another such session Wednesday, and the team still believes the hurler will be able to return by the end of the season, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

The results of Gonsolin's Sunday bullpen were mixed, as he wasn't able to throw without restrictions but is still expected to toss another session three days later. The right-hander last pitched in a game Aug. 23 and was initially expected to have a short stint on the IL, so it's discouraging that he's not yet back to full strength. However, manager Dave Roberts expressed optimism that Gonsolin can return as a starter before the end of the campaign.

Gore (elbow) is scheduled to make his next rehab start Friday with Triple-A Rochester, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Gore did not encounter any setbacks while throwing 36 pitches Sunday in the first game of his rehab assignment, and as long as a bullpen session Wednesday goes as planned, he will take the ball again five days later. He remains on track to make his Nationals debut before the season comes to a close.

Steele (back) threw a bullpen session Monday without issue, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Steele has been out of action since feeling soreness in his back in his Aug. 26 start, but he has recovered to the point where he can get back on the mound. It remains to be seen if he will toss another bullpen session or if he is ready to embark on a rehab assignment.

Overton (back) will begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Louisville.

Overton's next appearance with Louisville will be his first at any level since May 17, as he was diagnosed just a few days later with a stress reaction in his back and was placed on the injured list. Prior to hitting the shelf, Overton had turned in a 1.82 ERA in 24.2 innings over four starts with the Reds, but his extended stint on the IL means that he likely won't have enough time to build back up for a starting role. He's expected to require multiple outings at Louisville before he potentially rejoins the Reds later this month or in the first week of October as a relief option.

Garrett didn't factor into the decision in the second game of Monday's doubleheader against the Rangers, giving up two runs on two hits and two walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out four.

Making his first start in nearly a month after recovering from an oblique injury, Garrett was limited to 65 pitches (38 strikes) but pitched fairly well before getting the hook. It's not clear whether the southpaw will remain in the Miami rotation as a sixth starter or shift to the bullpen, but his 3.68 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 75:19 K:BB through 73.1 innings on the season suggest he's ready for a regular starting role.

Ortiz's contract was selected from Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday.

Ortiz will start the second game of Tuesday's twin bill against the Reds, and he was officially added to the roster prior to the opening game. He will serve as the 29th man, so chances are he will head back to the minors after the nightcap.

Strider (10-5) took the loss against San Francisco on Monday, allowing three runs (two earned) on nine hits and one walk while striking out nine batters over five innings.

Strider didn't have his best stuff in the outing, as he needed 102 pitches to make it through five shaky frames. The Giants racked up nine hits against him, but only one (a Thairo Estrada double) went for extra bases. That allowed Strider to keep the damage on the scoreboard to a minimum by going to his swing-and-miss stuff -- he finished four of his five frames with a strikeout, three of the swinging variety. Strider has struck out at least nine batters in four of his past five starts and ranks sixth in MLB with 192 punchouts on the campaign.

Cobb (6-6) earned the win over Atlanta on Monday, allowing six hits and striking out seven batters over seven scoreless innings.

Cobb scattered six singles in the victory and didn't walk any batters for just the second time in his past 10 starts. The right-hander allowed only two runners to reach second base, and none made it to third. He racked up 18 swinging strikes in the outing and fanned exactly seven batters for the third time in his past four starts. Cobb started the season poorly, posting a 6.25 ERA and 1.55 WHIP over his first seven games, but he has been much better since then, registering a 2.59 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 94:28 K:BB across 17 contests. Remarkably, Cobb's victory Monday was only his third over the impressive 17-game span.
