Wood (3-3) alowed five runs (four earned) on two hits and four walks over 1.2 innings Sunday, striking out three and taking a loss against the Mets.

Wood came out of the bullpen and immediately ran into trouble after Ross Stripling fired two shutout frames. The Mets plated three runs on Wood in the third inning followed by two more in the fourth. After posting a 2.87 ERA through his first five appearances, his ERA has ballooned up to 6.51 through 45 innings this year. The veteran southpaw has yet to complete six innings in any outing this season and has now made two straight appearances out of the bullpen to follow an opener. As of now, Wood's next outing is lined up to be at home against the Rockies.

Abbott did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing one run on four hits and one walk over 7.2 innings against the Padres. He struck out 12.

Abbott turned in the best start of his young career Sunday, holding San Diego scoreless through 23 outs before being pulled at 101 pitches after allowing a solo home run to Ha-Seong Kim. The outing set a career high in strikeouts and marked his third straight start fanning eight or more batters, Through six appearances (37.2 innings), Abbott owns a perfect 4-0 record with a 1.21 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and a 42:13 K:BB. He's tentatively scheduled to take on the Brewers next, who strike out the fourth-most in MLB and rank 25th in runs per game.

Taillon allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits across five innings and did not factor into the decision in Sunday's extra-inning loss to the Guardians. He had no walks and struck out six.

The struggles continued for Taillon, who saw his season ERA climb above 7.00. He was able to miss some bats Sunday, but he allowed five earned runs for the second consecutive start. The righty has allowed at least four earned runs in four of his last five appearances. It's been a rough first season in Chicago for Taillon, who had a much stronger 3.91 ERA for the Yankees last year. He's penciled in to start again Friday against his old team in New York and should be avoided in that spot.

Alcantara (3-7) took the loss Sunday, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks over five innings against Atlanta. He struck out six.

Alcantara lasted just five frames Sunday, his shortest start since May 2. He surrendered multiple homers for the first time all season, as Orlando Arcia tagged him for a solo home run in the second inning and Ozzie Albies swatted a two-run shot in the fifth. The outing continued a rough patch for Alcantara, marking the fifth time he's allowed at least four runs across his past seven appearances. Over that stretch, Alcantara owns a 5.04 ERA and a 32:13 K:BB during 44.2 innings.

Strider (10-2) earned the win Sunday, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and one walk over 6.2 innings against the Marlins. He struck out nine.

Strider picked up his fourth consecutive win Sunday, fanning nine batters across 6.2 frames. The 24-year-old has been the MLB's premier strikeout pitcher, leading the league with 155 punchouts and a 14.2 K/9 while racking up eight or more K's in 14 of his 17 starts. After enduring a rough patch in early June during which he gave up 13 runs over two appearances (nine innings), Strider has bounced back with four earned runs across his last three starts (19.2 innings) to bring his ERA to 3.66 on the year. He's expected to toe the mound once more before the All-Star break in a projected matchup with the Rays at Tropicana Field next weekend.

Gallen (10-3) allowed four runs on five hits and a walk while striking out 12 over seven innings, taking the loss Sunday versus the Angels.

Gallen was shaky early on, giving up a solo home run to Mike Trout and a three-run blast to Mickey Moniak over the first two frames. After that, Gallen settled down, but the Diamondbacks couldn't claw back. This was the right-hander's fourth double-digit strikeout game of the season. He's pitched to an excellent 3.15 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 120:23 K:BB through 111.1 innings over 18 starts. He'll likely get one more turn in the first half, tentatively projected to be a home start versus the Pirates before taking his talents to the All-Star Game.

Seabold (1-5) allowed eight runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out four over five innings, taking the loss Sunday versus the Tigers.

Seabold gave up a grand slam to Javier Baez in the first inning, and additional homers by Kerry Carpenter and Jake Rogers accounted for the rest of the damage. The long ball has been a problem for Seabold lately -- he's given up a combined eight homers over his last 13 innings while losing three straight starts. He's now at a 6.62 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 50:21 K:BB through 66.2 innings over 18 appearances (11 starts). The right-hander is projected for a road start in San Francisco in his next outing.

Grove will be recalled to start Monday against the Pirates if Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) is placed on the injured list, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Kershaw has dealt with left shoulder inflammation for several days, and the team continues to evaluate him ahead of Monday's series opener. Manager Dave Roberts said after Sunday's loss to the Royals that it's possible Kershaw lands on the IL, and he also said that Grove will take the mound to begin Monday's game if Kershaw is unavailable. Grove made five appearances for the major-league club in June and posted a 6.86 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 21 innings during that time.

Suarez (2-3) took the loss Sunday, allowing five runs on seven hits and three walks over 5.1 innings in a 5-4 loss against Washington. He struck out five.

Four of the five runs against Suarez came on Stone Garrett's grand slam with two outs in the third inning. It was the first time since May 30 that Suarez has allowed more than one run in a start -- he'd pitched to a 1.08 ERA over his previous five outings (33.1 innings). The 27-year-old southpaw now sports a 3.67 ERA with a 1.26 WHIP and 55:18 K:BB across 10 starts (56.1 innings) this season. Suarez will look to get back on track in his next outing, currently scheduled for next week in Miami.

Manager Dave Roberts said Sunday that Kershaw (shoulder) could be placed on the injured list Monday, Matthew Moreno of DodgerBlue.com reports.

Kershaw has been managing left shoulder inflammation in recent days, but the team has been hesitant to place him on the injured list. The southpaw threw off flat ground Saturday, and his turn through the rotation comes Monday against the Pirates, but it seems possible that the Dodgers will choose to shut him down through the All-Star break. If Kershaw lands on the IL, Michael Grove is a candidate to be recalled.
