Wheeler came away with a no-decision Wednesday in the Phillies' 9-8 extra-innings loss to the Marlins, giving up two runs on five hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out four.

The right-hander blanked Miami for five frames before fading in the sixth and serving up back-to-back homers to Josh Bell and Jazz Chisholm, but Wheeler still left the mound with his team up 5-2. A disastrous group effort by the Philly bullpen ensured he wouldn't collect his ninth win of the season, however. Wheeler has reeled off five straight quality starts, posting a 2.76 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and dazzling 37:3 K:BB through 32.2 innings over that stretch, but he's gone only 1-1 thanks to inconsistent run and bullpen support. He'll try to get back in the win column in his next outing, likely to come at home early next week against the Nationals.

Gore did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks over six innings against the Brewers. He struck out five.

Gore left a four-seamer over the middle of the plate in the top of the second, which Tyrone Taylor launched into the stands to give the Brewers their first run of the game. However, the lefty settled in after that mistake, going 1-2-3 over the next two frames before allowing just one more run on a Christian Yelich double in the sixth. It marked Gore's first quality start since June 3, and he's now allowed three or fewer runs in three consecutive outings. On the downside, he's also issued at least two walks in four straight and in eight of his last nine.

Bido (2-2) took the loss Wednesday, allowing four runs on three hits and one walk over three innings against Detroit. He struck out three

After striking out Zach McKinstry to open the game, Bido served up a hanging changeup to Riley Greene in the next at-bat, which the center fielder crushed over the right-field wall to put the Tigers up 1-0. The right-hander would then hold Detroit scoreless over the next two innings before hitting a wall in the fourth, walking Kerry Carpenter to open the frame and then beaning Matt Vierling in the following at-bat. Bido was tagged for four runs in the contest for only the second time this season, and the performance led to his first loss since June 19.

Chirinos (1-0) earned the win Wednesday, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk over five innings against the Angels while striking out five.

After striking out Shohei Ohtani to open the bottom of the fourth, Chirinos allowed a single and a walk to the next two batters, which would eventually lead to the Angels' first run coming home. The right-hander was then relieved by Michael Tonkin in the sixth after allowing back-to-back to singles to open the frame, but not before racking up a season-high five strikeouts on the afternoon. It marked Chirinos' first win with his new club, though he's now given three or more runs in each of his last three starts.

Williamson allowed five runs on four hits and two walks while striking out seven batters in a no-decision against the Cubs on Wednesday.

Williamson got enough early run support to hold a 5-3 lead through four innings, but he allowed two of the first three batters he faced to reach base in the fifth before getting the hook. Both runners came around to score after his departure, marking the first time Williamson has allowed five runs in an outing since he yielded six to the Dodgers on June 7. The southpaw as least managed to contribute seven punchouts in the start Wednesday despite notching just four swings-and-misses. Williamson came out of the All-Star break by picking up two wins and posting a 2.55 ERA over his first three starts, but it's uncertain if he'll hold onto a rotation spot when Hunter Greene (hip) and Nick Lodolo (lower leg) return from the injured list, which is expected to happen later this month. Williamson should have at least a few more starts to prove himself before the Reds need to make that decision.

Smyly tossed 4.2 innings against Cincinnati on Wednesday, allowing five runs on six hits and no walks while striking out seven batters in a no-decision.

Smyly had pitched behind an opener in each of his two previous outings, but he returned to a traditional starting role Wednesday. The change didn't appear to benefit the left-hander, as he fell behind 5-2 after four frames and was pulled with two outs in the fifth. The Cubs eventually came back with a massive offensive outburst in the late innings to take Smyly off the hook, but that doesn't do much to soften the veteran's struggles. After pitching well for a period earlier in the campaign, Smyly has mostly fallen off the fantasy radar, posting an 8.40 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 35:11 K:BB over 30 innings across his past seven starts.

Gonsolin (6-4) allowed a run on five hits and two walks while striking out three over five innings to earn the win Wednesday over the Athletics.

While it was a soft matchup, it was still a positive to see Gonsolin end a three-start winless stretch. His lone mistake was a Shea Langeliers solo home run in the third inning -- that was the sixth homer Gonsolin has allowed over his last five starts. The right-hander now has a 4.11 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 71:35 K:BB through 87.2 innings over 17 starts. He's projected for a road start in San Diego early next week.

Cecconi allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out two over 4.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Giants on Wednesday.

Cecconi was cruising until the fifth inning, when he gave up three baserunners and both of the runs on his line. His strikeout stuff didn't materialize in his major-league debut, but he had a 104:29 K:BB over 103 innings with Triple-A Reno prior to his call-up. He'll need a bit more leeway from manager Torey Lovullo to be in a spot to earn wins -- the rookie threw just 59 pitches (36 strikes) in this outing. The Diamondbacks have two off days next week, so Cecconi may have to settle for a bulk-relief outing if he remains in the majors.

Webb (9-9) allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out five over seven innings to earn the win Wednesday over the Diamondbacks.

Webb has generally done the Giants a lot of favors lately, covering at least seven innings in four of his last five starts as the team continues to get by with bullpen days frequently. He struggled early in this contest, giving up a pair of runs in the first inning before settling down. Webb is now at a 3.45 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 145:25 K:BB through 148.2 innings over 23 starts this season. He's projected for a road start versus the Angels next week.

Senga (7-6) allowed three runs on 11 hits and two walks while striking out six over 5.2 innings to take the loss Wednesday versus the Royals.

Senga threw 62 of 99 pitches for strikes, but the Royals were able to make consistent contact. Nine of their 11 hits against Senga were singles, but that was enough traffic to stick him with the loss when the Mets' offense couldn't generate a run. The right-hander is now at a 3.25 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 136:55 K:BB through 110.2 innings over 20 starts this season. He's projected for a home start versus the Cubs next week.
