  • Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Eight Ks in seven sterling innings

Woodruff (4-0) earned the win Friday against the Mets, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks in seven innings. He struck out eight.

Woodruff was excellent Friday, recording 16 whiffs en route to registering at least eight punchouts for the fourth time in six starts this year. The veteran right-hander was somewhat curiously pulled after throwing just 79 pitches, but it's worth noting that the Brewers have yet to let him reach the 90-pitch threshold after he missed the start of the season due to shoulder and ankle injuries. Woodruff will tote a sparkling 2.29 ERA, 0.65 WHIP and 45:6 K:BB over 35.1 innings into his next appearance, which is set to be a favorable home matchup against the last-place Pirates.

  • Austin Gomber SP | COL

Rockies' Austin Gomber: Surrenders six runs in loss

Gomber (0-6) allowed six runs on five hits and three walks while striking out three over six innings to take the loss Friday versus the Diamondbacks.

Gomber got into trouble early, allowing a three-run double to Blaze Alexander in the first inning. Alexander added a solo shot in the fourth and Corbin Carroll tacked on a two-run homer in the fifth to account for the rest of the damage on Gomber's line. It continues to be a tough season for the southpaw, who has now lost five of his last six starts, though this was his longest outing of the year. He's at a 6.52 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 30:14 K:BB through 49.2 innings over 10 starts.

  • Zac Gallen SP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Collects ninth win

Gallen (9-12) allowed one run on four hits and three walks while striking out six over six innings to earn the win over the Rockies on Friday.

Gallen has covered at least six innings in six of his last seven starts, earning wins in all four of his quality starts in that span. He limited the damage to a Kyle Karros RBI single in the second inning of this contest, though the Diamondbacks' lead was never in danger. Gallen is now at a 5.31 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 130:50 K:BB through 139 innings across 24 starts this season. The veteran right-hander's next outing is projected to be on the road versus the Rangers.

  • Brewers' Logan Henderson: Diagnosed with flexor strain

Henderson (elbow), who was placed on the injured list earlier Friday, has been diagnosed with a right flexor strain, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Although the injury is significant enough to cause Henderson to miss his next turn through the rotation and land on the shelf, imaging revealed that the right-hander didn't suffer any damage to his UCL. Manager Pat Murphy said the diagnosis was better than what the team was expecting, adding that he doesn't expect the 23-year-old to be out for an extended period of time. Tobias Myers was recalled from Triple-A Nashville and will start Saturday's contest in place of Henderson, though that spot in the rotation will eventually fall to Jacob Misiorowski (tibia), who could return from the IL next week.

  • Bryce Elder SP | ATL

Braves' Bryce Elder: Takes third straight loss

Elder (4-9) took the loss against Miami on Friday, allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out three over six innings.

Elder was under pressure for most of the outing, frequently working with runners on base, and Miami took advantage by scoring in three straight frames. Heriberto Hernandez launched a two-run homer against Elder in the fifth inning. The right-hander has struggled mightily since the All-Star break, posting an 8.69 ERA with six losses and eight home runs allowed over 39.1 innings in eight starts. He's lined up to face the Mets on the road in his next outing.

  • Edward Cabrera SP | MIA

Marlins' Edward Cabrera: Fans 11 in dominant start

Cabrera (6-5) earned the win, allowing one run on two hits and one walk while striking out 11 over eight innings in Friday's victory over Atlanta.

Cabrera was nearly untouchable Friday, with his lone blemish coming on a solo home run from Jurickson Profar in the sixth inning. His 11 strikeouts were one shy of his career high, and the outing marked his third straight quality start. It was also just the second time in his MLB career that he's completed eight innings. The performance continued an impressive run since the start of July in which the right-hander has posted a 2.06 ERA with a 45:5 K:BB across 43.2 innings. Cabrera will look to build on this dominance when he takes the mound again for his next appearance, slated for next week against Cleveland.

  • Mitch Keller SP | PIT

Pirates' Mitch Keller: Solid despite command issues

Keller did not factor into the decision in Friday's 3-2 win over the Reds, allowing two runs on six hits and three walks with three strikeouts over 5.2 innings.

Keller departed an out shy of a quality start after allowing two baserunners in the sixth inning, one of whom came around to score. The 29-year-old threw just 56 of 97 pitches for strikes with only six whiffs, but the two earned runs marked his lowest total in four starts since the All-Star break. He'll carry a 3.86 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 107:37 K:BB across 137.2 innings into a road matchup with the Brewers next week.

  • Chase Burns SP | CIN

Reds' Chase Burns: Makes history in no-decision

Burns did not factor into the decision in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Pirates, allowing one run on three hits and one walk with 10 strikeouts over six innings.

Burns generated 16 whiffs on 97 pitches and was in line for his first career win before the Pirates rallied in the eighth inning. According to the Reds, the 22-year-old became the first major leaguer to record 10 strikeouts in four of his first eight career starts. He'll carry a 5.24 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 57:13 K:BB across 34.1 innings into a home matchup with the Brewers next weekend.

  • Landen Roupp SP | SF

Giants' Landen Roupp: Close to rehab assignment

Roupp (elbow) threw a bullpen session Friday and could begin his rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Roupp is making good progress in his recovery from right elbow inflammation and will likely require just one or two rehab starts before he makes his return from the 15-day injured list. The right-hander posted a 3.11 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 95:42 K:BB across 101.1 innings prior to landing on the shelf July 25.

  • Aaron Nola SP | PHI

Phillies' Aaron Nola: Set for more rehab start

Nola (ankle/rib) will make another rehab start for Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday and could be activated from the 60-day injured list after that, Paul Casella of MLB.com reports.

Nola threw 69 pitches and covered 3.2 innings in his second rehab start for Lehigh Valley on Wednesday, and if he's able to build on that workload Tuesday while coming out of the start free of setbacks, he could be ready to rejoin the Philadelphia rotation as soon as Aug. 17 in Washington. Nola has been on the shelf since May 15 due to an ankle sprain and a stress reaction in his right rib, the latter of which he sustained while rehabbing the ankle injury.
