Kyle Gibson SP | BAL
Twins SP Kyle Gibson clobbered again in loss to Yankees
Perhaps the All-Star break layoff did not have a negative effect on Twins starter Kyle Gibson. But he certainly hasn't pitched well since his return.
Gibson experienced his second straight poor performance Sunday against the visiting Yankees. He yielded six runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings in lowering his record to 8-8 and raising his ERA to 3.48, its highest point since May 1. He walked two and fanned four.
The right-hander blanked New York through four before surrendering a solo home run to Chase Headley in the fifth. That signaled disaster as he was greeted by two walks, three singles and three runs to begin the sixth. Two more runs scored after he was removed.
Gibson has given up 12 earned runs in 10 1/3 innings covering his last two starts.

Nathan Eovaldi SP | TEX
Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi has perhaps best start of season
Yankees starter Nathan Eovaldi has been bailed out by the bats often this year, which explains his 9-2 record despite a 4.43 ERA heading into his Sunday outing in Minnesota. He had allowed 127 hits in just 103 2/3 innings.
Eovaldi is now halfway to 20 wins, but not just because of offensive support. He performed quite well in shutting down the Twins. He surrendered two runs on five hits in eight innings with one walk and five strikeouts.
It wasn't until the fifth that the Yankees scored a run for him. He had fallen behind in the third on two singles and a groundout, then yielded another after his departure in the ninth when Miguel Sano, who had doubled, tallied a meaningless run.
Eovaldi has not allowed more than three runs in a start since June 16. But had not been extended into the seventh inning since June 10.

Reds trade Johnny Cueto to Royals
After a false start on Saturday, the Reds completed a trade sending pitcher Johnny Cueto to the Royals on Sunday.

Negotiations continued through Sunday morning, and CBSSports.com baseball insider Jon Heyman confirmed that the trade had been finalized.

Tommy Milone SP | SEA
Twins SP Tommy Milone hit hard again
Twins starter Tommy Milone went into the All-Star break as one of the team's best pitchers, but he's struggled since the return, and Saturday was hit hard by the Yankees in a no-decision.
Over the course of his six innings, Milone allowed just four hits while striking out four, but he also gave up four runs and two home runs. Over his last two starts, he's given up five homers.
Milone labored through 83 pitches as his ERA rose to 3.58.

Carlos Carrasco RP | ATL
Indians SP Carlos Carrasco no match for Sale on Saturday
Indians starter Carlos Carrasco needed to be great in his matchup against White Sox ace Chris Sale on Saturday. Instead, he was terrible.
The result was a no-doubt defeat. Carrasco allowed three runs before recording an out and finished with six runs allowed on seven hits in four innings. He walked two and fanned five.
He was greeted by four consecutive singles, including a two-run job by Jose Abreu. A double and two-run single by Tyler Flowers capped a disastrous first inning. Carrasco then settled down for a bit, striking out three in a row at one point, but his night was all but done when he yielded the first career home run to Carlos Sanchez in the fourth.
Carrasco, who managed five quality starts in his previous six outings, hasn't recorded a victory since July 1 and now owns a 4.26 ERA on the year.

Chris Sale SP | ATL
White Sox SP Chris Sale takes big lead and cruises to win
The victory for White Sox stud starter Chris Sale was not official until nine innings were played. But he pretty much had it won before he took the mound. His team scored five runs for him in the top of the first.
Game, set, match.
Sale was his usual efficient and dominant self against the Indians. He allowed two runs on seven hits in seven innings with no walks and seven strikeouts. His lone hiccups were an RBI single by Jesus Aguilar in the fifth and run-scoring double by Giovany Urshela in the seventh.
The southpaw rebounded quite nicely from a rare poor outing Sunday. He has raised his record to 9-5 and lowered his ERA to 2.85.
