Athletics' Rich Hill: Scratched from Saturday's start

Hill (groin) has been scratched from his next scheduled start on Saturday against the Reds after suffering a setback during a bullpen session, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports. He is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Thursday.

This is concerning news for Hill as this marks the second time in a row he's had his turn skipped in the rotation due to a groin issue. According to John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle, Hill suffered the setback at the very end of his bullpen session Wednesday and said that it felt very similar to when he initially suffered the injury on May 29. The A's will now need to find a spot starter for Saturday and possibly beyond in the event that Hill's MRI reveals a significant injury. More information on Hill's outlook figures to be made available following Thursday's MRI.

  • Drew Smyly SP | CHC

Rays' Drew Smyly: Next start pushed back

Smyly will have his next start pushed back with the Rays opting to give him a mental break, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

It doesn't appear as though there are any issues physically, but the Rays will look to give Smyly some time to clear his head after a dreadful stretch dating back to the start of May. He's currently slated to take his next start next Wednesday against the Mariners, with Chris Archer and Matt Moore each having their next scheduled starts moved forward to cover Smyly's absence one time through.

  • Matthew Boyd SP | CHC

Tigers' Matt Boyd: Limits Jays to three hits in no-decision

Boyd (0-1) battled through 5.1 innings against the Blue Jays in a no-decision Tuesday. He allowed just one run (a solo homer) on three hits while walking five and striking out five.

It was an admirable start for the left-hander against his old team (Boyd was part of last season's David Price deal between the Tigers and Jays) as he held the Birds hitless for four innings before Kevin Pillar homered to lead off the fifth. The five walks were a bit of a surprise considering he only had allowed a total of four free passes through his first three starts (16 innings). Boyd's high strand rate (78.3 percent) suggests that his 3.38 ERA is skating on thin ice. He's scheduled to toe the rubber again Monday on the road against the White Sox.

  • Wade Miley SP | CIN

Mariners' Wade Miley: Throws seven shutout innings in win over Cleveland

Miley (6-2) threw seven shutout innings, allowed just four hits and two walks, and struck out three in a win Tuesday over Cleveland.

Miley had allowed 14 runs in 8.2 innings over his past two starts and desperately needed a bounceback game like this one. Still, Miley has three shutout outings this year -- he threw a complete game shutout against the Royals against Kansas City on April 30 and threw six scoreless innings against Baltimore on May 17. None of those starts started a hot streak for Miley, and he has been too inconsistent to believe this will finally be the one that rights the ship. Despite his flashes of brilliance, Miley has a 5.27 ERA.

  • Dallas Keuchel SP | MIL

Astros' Dallas Keuchel: Continues struggles versus Texas

Keuchel fell to 3-8 Tuesday versus Texas, allowing four runs on 10 hits across 7.1 innings. He struck out eight.

Keuchel actually pitched quite well Tuesday, tying a season-high in punchouts and pitching into the eighth inning for just the second time, but he allowed a two-run home run to Ian Desmond with one out in the eight that ultimately decided the game. The left-hander continues to struggle versus the Rangers, as he now has a 8.75 ERA in his last four starts versus the in-state foe. He will look to get back on track Sunday at the Rays.

  • Cole Hamels SP | SD

Rangers' Cole Hamels: Quality start in no-decision versus Houston

Hamels allowed just two runs with four strikeouts and four walks across seven innings Tuesday versus the Astros. He did not factor into the decision.

The veteran lefty delivered his fourth quality start in the last five outings, but the Rangers once again waited until the latter stages of the game to pull away and cost him a shot at a win. Hamels' performances of late have masked a couple of worrisome items, as he has a 14:9 K:BB ratio over his last three starts and has allowed 10 home runs over his last six. Nevertheless, he has a solid 3.32 ERA on the season and should improve upon that figure if he can get back to limiting the free passes as well as the long balls. His next chance to do so will come Sunday at Seattle.

  • Tommy Milone SP | SEA

Twins' Tommy Milone: Strong showing at Triple-A

Milone has a 2.08 ERA with a 27:1 K:BB in 34.2 innings at Triple-A Rochester. Despite his strong stats, he's not close to being called up to the majors. "I think he's behind the guys that are here," GM Terry Ryan told Brandon Warne of Cold Omaha.

Milone dominated Triple-A with a 0.70 ERA and 47:3 K:BB ratio in 38.2 innings when sent to the minors last season, but that same domination hasn't translated to the majors. He may get another shot in the majors before too long with Minnesota's rotation struggling and in flux much of the season.

  • Rich Hill SP | KC

Athletics' Rich Hill: Will likely start Saturday

Hill (groin) will most likely pitch Saturday against the Reds, John Hickey of the San Jose Mercury News reports.

If Hill is able to get through his bullpen session Wednesday without any setback, he will likely be on the mound against Cincinnati on Saturday. He has been out since leaving a game on May 27 after appearing to tweak his left leg on a pitch. Hill was scratched from his scheduled start on Saturday since the A's have proceeded cautiously with this injury and will see how he feels after throwing a bullpen.

  • Kyle Gibson SP | BAL

Twins' Kyle Gibson: Ready to return Saturday

Gibson (shoulder) is slated to be activated from the DL and start Saturday against the Red Sox, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

The original plan was for Gibson to return last week, but the club decided to exercise caution and have the righty make a rehab start at the Triple-A level before rejoining the team. He'll draw a tough matchup in his first start back against a potent Boston lineup, and it remains to be seen if he'll be held on any sort of pitch count or innings limit.

  • Carlos Rodon SP | NYY

White Sox's Carlos Rodon: Will have next start skipped

Rodon is dealing with neck discomfort and will have his next start skipped, Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago reports.

Rodon underwent an MRI that came back without revealing any issues, so it sounds as though this may be more of a short-term issue. Miguel Gonzalez will get the start Thursday in his place, but Rodon could be ready to slot back into the rotation after missing just one turn.
