German (4-3) allowed two earned runs on three hits and two walks while striking out five across 5.2 innings, taking the loss to the Blue Jays on Thursday.

German made very few mistakes in the loss; however, the Blue Jays took full advantage of them with a pair of home runs by Bo Bichette and Marcus Semien. The 28-year-old is having a solid season with a 3.06 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP through 50 innings. He is averaging just one walk per five innings pitched. Currently, he is not scheduled to start in the Yankees' next six games.

Manoah (1-0) fired six scoreless innings on two hits and two walks while striking out seven to earn the win over the Yankees on Thursday.

In his MLB debut, Manoah looked like a veteran, striking out more batters (7) than baserunners allowed (4). It took him just 88 pitches -- 60 were strikes -- to get through six innings. The 23-year-old had a 0.50 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 18 innings in the minors this season, prompting his call-up. He ranks as the 96th overall prospect in baseball and a top-five prospect in the Blue Jays' system, according to MLB Pipeline.

Arihara underwent surgery Thursday to remove an aneurysm and repair the artery in his right shoulder, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

The procedure puts Arihara's availability for the remainder of the season in jeopardy, though the Rangers aren't yet ready to rule out the right-hander from returning to action in August or September. He'll spend the next month resting up before the Rangers re-evaluate him in late June, at which time he could be cleared to begin a throwing program.

The White Sox placed Kopech (hamstring) on the bereavement list Thursday.

Kopech picked up a left hamstring injury during his relief appearance Wednesday against the Cardinals, but it's a personal matter that will keep him away from the team for the time being. According to James Fegan of The Athletic, manager Tony La Russa said that Kopech underwent imaging on the hamstring that revealed nothing overly concerning, so the White Sox are seemingly optimistic that he'll be ready to pitch once he's reinstated from the bereavement list. The right-hander will remain on the bereavement list for a minimum of three days and no more than seven.

Milone (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Thursday.

Milone hit the injured list at the start of May with left shoulder inflammation. The injury is apparently serious enough to shut him down for at least two months, so he'll now be ineligible to return before the start of July. The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for the Blue Jays to select Alek Manoah's contract.

Manoah's contract was selected by the Blue Jays on Thursday.

Manoah's major-league debut was pushed back a day after Wednesday's game was postponed, but he'll start Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Yankees. Manoah made three starts for Triple-A Buffalo to begin the season and posted a 0.50 ERA and 0.56 WHIP in 18 innings. He could have the chance to earn the fifth spot in the rotation after Anthony Kay was recently sent to the minors.

Kluber (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday.

Kluber will be shut down from throwing for four weeks after he was diagnosed with a subscapularis strain in his right shoulder, so his placement on the injured list doesn't come as a surprise. Right-hander Albert Abreu was recalled by the Yankees as part of a corresponding move. Since Kluber will need to build his arm back up after being shut down, he'll likely miss most of July while he recovers.

McKenzie was optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Thursday.

McKenzie returned to the major-league mound as the starter in Wednesday's game and allowed one hit and three walks while striking out five in five scoreless innings. Although he pitched effectively in the no-decision, he'll return to the minors after outfielder Bradley Zimmer was recalled in a corresponding move. However, McKenzie could return to the big-league club when his next turn in the rotation comes up Monday. Cleveland has a doubleheader against the White Sox that day, and McKenzie would be eligible to return earlier than normal if he's designated as the club's 27th man for the twin bill.

Canning (4-3) earned the win Wednesday against the Rangers after giving up three runs on four hits (including two home runs) and two walks while fanning seven across six innings.

Canning bounced back after losing in his previous start and while his stat line wasn't overly impressive, he went deep enough into the game to earn his second quality start of the campaign -- both have come over his last three appearances. The right-hander owns a 3.60 ERA across five outings this month, and his next start is scheduled to come next week on the road against the Giants.

Quantrill (0-1) took the loss in relief Wednesday as Cleveland was downed 1-0 by the Tigers, giving up one run on two hits over three innings. He struck out four without walking a batter.

After Triston McKenzie gave Cleveland five scoreless innings, Quantrill got the call and kept the shutout going until the eighth, when a Niko Goodrum leadoff double led to the game's only run. Quantrill tossed 42 pitches (28 strikes) in his longest appearance of the season, but he's still unlikely to be ready for a full workload if, as expected, he makes his first start of the year during Monday's doubleheader.
