Lyles (5-8) allowed six earned runs on nine hits and three walks while striking out six across 5.2 innings to take the loss Tuesday against the Angels.

Much of Lyles' pain was self-induced, as he issued a walk and then threw a wild pitch to help ignite a three-run third inning for the Angels. He then capped off his poor performance by allowing a two-run home run in the sixth frame. Lyles has been a difficult pitcher to trust with any confidence of late. While he's allowed two earned runs or fewer six times in his last 10 starts, he's allowed four or more earned runs in each of his other four outings in that span. For the season, Lyles has a 5.25 ERA with 96 strikeouts across 120 innings.

Bubic (3-5) allowed three earned runs on three hits and three walks while striking out eight across six innings to take the loss Tuesday against the White Sox.

Bubic was hurt by the long ball, as all three of the earned runs against him came on home runs. However, he was otherwise solid, both limiting baserunners and racking up strikeouts. Bubic has quietly put together four consecutive quality starts, during which he's allowed eight earned runs across 24 innings while striking out 20 and walking nine. While not dominant, he's seemingly moved past the early-season struggles that led to a 5.40 ERA and 1.59 WHIP across his first 56.2 frames.

Gil (1-0) was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after earning the win Tuesday versus the Orioles. He gave up four hits with six strikeouts and a walk across six scoreless innings.

The 23-year-old was pressed into his major-league debut after Gerrit Cole tested positive for COVID-19, and the young righty delivered a fantastic performance against Baltimore. Gil pounded the zone and threw 62 of 88 pitches for strikes while allowing only four singles. The demotion is a tough break following the strong performance, but Gil could receive another big-league opportunity down the stretch after shining in his debut.

Ryu (11-5) allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out eight through seven stellar innings, getting the win in Tuesday's 7-2 victory over Cleveland.

After making 32 starts with the Blue Jays during their nomadic adventures of 2020 and 2021, Ryu didn't disappoint when he finally got a chance to show Toronto what he's all about. In his first start at Rogers Centre as a Blue Jay, the southpaw made quick work of Cleveland, rattling off four 1-2-3 innings. He also posted a season-high eight strikeouts and did not walk a batter for a second consecutive start. Ryu is scheduled for another chance to pitch in front of the home fans Sunday against Boston.

Glasnow (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery Wednesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

It was reported over the weekend that the right-hander was expected to require the procedure, and that's now been confirmed. Glasnow will go under the knife Wednesday, which will end his 2021 campaign and sideline him for most, if not all, of 2022.

Urquidy (shoulder) is scheduled to throw off a mound Wednesday or Thursday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

The right-hander has been throwing off flat ground for the past couple weeks, and he's now set to move on to mound work. Urquidy should begin ramping up his workload off the mound before facing live hitters and eventually progressing to a rehab assignment.

Bradley was promoted from Low-A Charleston to High-A Bowling Green on Tuesday.

Bradley has gone exactly five innings in nine straight starts while logging a 0.80 ERA, 0.64 WHIP and 52 strikeouts in 45 innings over that stretch, so this promotion was very well deserved. He's one of the best sleeper pitching prospects in the minors.

Wells (wrist) could return from the injured list as soon as Wednesday, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports.

If not Wednesday, the righty figures to be activated for Friday's series opener against the Rays. Manager Brandon Hyde said Wells, once healthy, could get opportunities as Baltimore's closer. He has a 3.92 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and stellar 55:9 K:BB in 43.2 innings of relief work this season.

Montgomery tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday, Jack Curry of YES Network reports.

Unless he can produce multiple negative tests, Montgomery will be sidelined for at least 10 days. This comes at an unfortunate time for the lefty, who has allowed just one earned run in his last 15.2 innings pitched and has blossomed into arguably the most consistent Yankees starter. More updates about Montgomery figure to come out in the next week or so.

German (shoulder) has a right rotator cuff strain and won't throw for seven to 10 days, Brendan Kuty of NJ Advance Media reports.

The right-hander was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday following his four-inning start July 31. He'll clearly need to miss more than the minimum 10 days, but it isn't clear exactly how long he's expected to be out. When asked about German's injury, manager Aaron Boone indicated, "That will shut him down for seven to 10 days, and then hopefully should be able to ramp up from there."
