Mize will be pushed back in the pitching schedule and make his next start Tuesday versus the Angels in Detroit, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

After tossing 4.1 innings earlier this week in Tuesday's win over Baltimore, Mize would have been available to start on four days' rest for Sunday's series finale with Cleveland. However, with the Tigers keen on managing the workloads of Mize, Tarik Skubal and Matt Manning, Hinch noted that all of the three young hurlers would pitch on extended rest for the remainder of the season, with the goal of having the trio make seven more starts each. In order to accomplish that goal, expect the Tigers to add a sixth starter to the rotation Sunday, with Triple-A Toledo right-hander Drew Hutchison representing one potential candidate to fill the opening.

Manning (3-5) earned the win Thursday against the Orioles after allowing three runs on eight hits across six innings, striking out two without walking a batter.

Manning recorded his second quality start of the season, and most importantly, he managed to bounce back after a woeful outing against Cleveland in his previous start. The rookie right-hander has struggled with consistency at times, but he has shown promise and has allowed three or fewer runs in five of his last seven appearances. Despite that, a couple of subpar outings mean he still owns a 6.10 ERA on the season.

Means (5-4) was tagged with the loss Thursday against the Tigers after allowing six runs on eight hits and a walk across 4.1 innings, fanning three.

Means was coming off back-to-back starts allowing just one earned run, but his issues with the long ball resurfaced in this one, as he gave up three homers and now has given up at least two long balls in six of his last nine starts. The southpaw saw his ERA climb to 3.21 following this outing, but it's worth noting his recent solid performances look like outliers -- he has given up at least four runs in three of his last five starts.

Berrios (8-6) gave up six runs on eight hits and four walks over 4.1 innings in a loss to the Angels on Thursday. He had three strikeouts.

Berrios both struggled with his control and allowed a fair amount of hard contact on the way to his first loss as a Blue Jay. He was able to pitch out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the first inning, but he couldn't avoid trouble again in the second when the Angels struck for four runs. Berrios was ultimately chased from the game with one out in the fifth, matching his shortest start of the season, which happened way back on April 14. Berrios is tentatively slated to make his next start on the road against the Nationals.

Bassitt (12-3) allowed three hits and two walks while striking out six across six scoreless innings to earn the win Thursday against Cleveland.

Bassitt was gifted an early lead and took advantage to cruise to an easy victory. He ran into a bit of trouble in both the first and fifth innings but faced little resistance from the Cleveland lineup otherwise. Bassitt has now worked at least six innings in eight of his last 10 starts, during which time he's maintained a 2.56 ERA with a pristine 62:12 K:BB across 63.1 frames.

Lynn allowed four runs on four hits and a pair of walks over five innings Thursday against the Yankees, striking out seven. He did not factor into the decision.

New York did its biggest chunk of damage off Lynn in the third inning, when Aaron Judge hit a three-run homer to give the Yankees a 3-1 lead. Brett Gardner also took Lynn deep in the sixth, the first time in almost two months that Lynn has allowed more than one homer in a start. It was also just the second time in 21 starts this season that an opponent has managed to put together more than three runs against Lynn. The 34-year-old is 10-3 on the year with a 2.26 ERA and 137:37 K:BB in 119.2 innings.

Rasmussen allowed one earned run on one hit and two walks while striking out four across four innings in the win over the Red Sox on Thursday. He did not factor into the decision.

Rasmussen was expected to serve as the opener but ended up working through four innings. He allowed just one run on a Rafael Devers double in the fourth inning. The right-hander has given up a run in each of his last three appearances, covering eight frames. Since joining the Rays, he has a 3.81 ERA and 1.23 WHIP with 29 strikeouts over 26 innings.

Heaney allowed seven runs on five hits and three walks in five innings against the White Sox on Thursday. He had five strikeouts and did not factor into the decision.

A change in uniforms hasn't done anything to mitigate Heaney's problems with the long ball; he's already given up eight homers in 15 innings since being acquired from the Angels, resulting in a ghastly ERA of 9.00 in his three starts for the Yankees. He was touched up by Jose Abreu, Eloy Jimenez and Seby Zavala on Thursday while also issuing three walks for the second straight outing. It's hard to imagine Heaney remaining in the rotation much longer at this rate, especially with Corey Kluber (shoulder) and Luis Severino (groin/elbow) currently on rehab assignments. For now, Heaney is tentatively scheduled for a home start against Boston next week.

Gonzales (4-5) allowed one earned run on two hits and one walk while striking out nine across nine innings, earning the win over the Rangers on Thursday.

Gonzales fired his first complete game of the season, while his nine strikeouts were a season high. The only run scored came on a solo home run by Charlie Culberson. The 29-year-old has allowed just two runs over his last 21.2 innings. His ERA has dropped to 4.35 and his WHIP to 1.26. He has 74 strikeouts in 89 innings pitched.

Urena (groin) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Toledo on Thursday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Urena has been on the injured list since July 17 due to right groin tightness, and he'll return to game action exactly one month after he sustained the injury. The right-hander resumed mound work last week, and his rehab assignment will allow him to build up his pitch count. However, the Tigers haven't yet indicated when Urena will be cleared to rejoin the major-league club.
