Means (5-7) allowed two runs on five hits and two walks with five strikeouts in seven-plus innings, taking the loss versus Kansas City on Thursday.

Means allowed a first-inning solo home run to Nicky Lopez, and then he was charged with another run after attempting to stretch his start into the eighth. The Baltimore ace has allowed nine runs in his last 24.1 innings, but he has two losses and two no-decisions across those four starts. Thursday was Means' longest start since he returned from a shoulder injury in July. He has a 3.42 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 114:23 K:BB through 126.1 innings this year. The southpaw is projected for a home start versus the Yankees next week.

Quantrill (5-3) held the Twins to one run on four hits and two walks over 7.2 innings to earn the win Thursday. He also had five strikeouts.

Quantrill bounced back nicely from Friday's poor outing, limiting Minnesota to a Miguel Sano solo homer in the second frame. He managed to pitch into the eighth inning for the first time this season before being lifted with his pitch count at a season-high 109. The 26-year-old Quantrill owns a 3.04 ERA and 106:42 K:BB in 130.1 innings heading into his next start, scheduled to come on the road next week in a rematch with the Twins.

Albers (1-2) took the loss Thursday against Cleveland, yielding three runs on six hits and four walks over four innings. He struck out a pair.

Albers, who needed 98 pitches to get 12 outs, allowed a two-run homer to Franmil Reyes in the third inning and a solo blast to Oscar Mercado in the fourth. The journeyman left-hander has been rocked for 12 runs and 16 hits in seven innings of work over his last two starts. Albers joined the rotation when Randy Dobnak (finger) went on the injured list, but his last two outings may force the Twins to consider other options the next time through.

Baz was scratched from his scheduled Thursday start at Triple-A Durham because of stomach virus symptoms.

The Rays don't seem at all worried about Baz needing to miss extended time, as they are hopeful he'll be able to take the ball for the Bulls at some point over the weekend. Baz has continued to impress of late, allowing just two earned runs across his last three outings (14 innings).

Lynch (finger) is listed as the probable starting pitcher for Friday's game against the Twins, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports.

Lynch lasted just 2.2 innings in his Saturday start against the White Sox, allowing six runs on five hits and three walks. It was later revealed that the southpaw was pitching through a cut on his finger that made it difficult for him to deliver his pitches. It's not clear if the issue has entirely subsided, but the plan as of now is for him to toe the rubber Friday. Lynch allowed just three earned runs across his previous 16.2 innings before Saturday's shaky outing.

Anderson was placed on the bereavement list Thursday.

Anderson should return to the team in time to make his next scheduled start against Boston on Tuesday, so the transaction isn't expected to have an impact on the Mariners' rotation. Infielder Kevin Padlo will come up from Triple-A Tacoma to take Anderson's roster spot during the weekend series against the Diamondbacks.

Cole (hamstring) is expected to make a start early next week, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.

Cole felt good after playing catch off flat ground Thursday, and he'll likely be able to make his next turn through the rotation after he exited Tuesday's appearance with a tight left hamstring. If the Yankees stay on turn in the rotation, the right-hander tentatively lines up to start Monday's game against Minnesota.

Taillon was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right ankle tendon injury Thursday, retroactive to Sept. 7.

Taillon posted a quality start in Monday's loss to the Blue Jays, as he allowed three runs in seven innings, but he apparently sustained an ankle injury. The severity of the issue isn't yet clear, but he received a PRP injection to help him recover, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. The Yankees haven't yet announced who will take his place in the rotation, but right-hander Sal Romano's contract was selected Thursday.

Cole (hamstring) played catch in the outfield prior to Thursday's game against Toronto, Max Goodman of SI.com reports.

Cole is optimistic that he isn't dealing with a serious issue after he exited Tuesday's start due to left hamstring tightness, and he's still considered day-to-day. The Yankees haven't indicated whether the right-hander will be able to make his next turn through the rotation, but it's certainly encouraging that the he was able to throw off flat ground Thursday.

Lynn (knee) is expected to return from the injured list to start Sunday's game against the Red Sox, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.

Lynn hit the injured list at the end of August with right knee inflammation, but reports at the time indicated he'd only miss one start. He'll wind up missing two turns in the rotation, as he last pitched Aug. 28, but he should be back in time to make a handful of appearances down the stretch.
