Ray (1-0) allowed one run on three hits and four walks over seven innings Friday, striking out five and earning a win over the Twins.

Making his first start after landing a $115 million deal last offseason, Ray fired 96 pitches across seven innings of one-run ball. The lone blemish on his outing was a solo shot by Gio Urshela in the fourth frame. The 6-foot-2 southpaw has dealt with command issues throughout his career, registering a career 3.9 BB/9 entering the 2022 campaign, so the four walks shouldn't come as much of a surprise. Ray is expected to face the White Sox on the road next week.

Ryan (0-1) allowed two runs on two hits and four walks over four innings Friday. He struck out four and was handed a loss by Seattle.

The 25-year-old coughed up a two-run shot to Mitch Haniger in the first inning before settling in for three shutout frames. On top of walking four batters, he also hit Ty France with a pitch. Ryan has never had real command issues as a professional, including last season when he issued just five free passes through 26.2 innings at the big-league level. Ryan is expected to take the mound in Boston next week.

Cole allowed three runs on four hits and a walk while striking out three in four innings during Friday's win over the Red Sox. He didn't factor into the decision.

The start of Cole's Opening Day start didn't go as planned, as the right-hander allowed a walk, a homer, a single and a double before recording an out. However, he settled down later in the outing and allowed just two baserunners during the rest of the outing. Cole tossed 68 pitches in his regular-season debut and will attempt to improve his results in his next outing. He tentatively lines up to start at home against the Blue Jays on Wednesday.

Crawford (0-1) allowed an unearned run on one hit while failing to record an out as he was charged with the loss in Friday's game against the Yankees.

Matt Barnes (back) was unavailable, so Crawford wound up entering Friday's matchup in the bottom of the 11th inning. He threw just three pitches before Josh Donaldson drove in phantom runner Isiah Kiner-Falefa. Crawford has now been charged with losses in each of his first two major-league appearances after getting roughed up in his debut last September.

Eovaldi allowed three runs on five hits and a walk while striking out seven in five innings during Friday's loss to the Yankees. He didn't factor into the decision.

Boston's offense provided Eovaldi with a three-run lead in the top of the first inning Friday, but he gave up a two-run blast in the bottom half of the frame before Giancarlo Stanton tied the game with a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth. Although the right-hander was forced to settle for a no-decision, he had strong strikeout numbers while reaching 76 pitches in the Red Sox opener. Eovaldi tentatively lines up to start Wednesday's road matchup against the Tigers.

Montas (0-1) struck out six in five innings while allowing five runs on six hits and a walk in a 9-5 loss Friday in Philadelphia.

Montas gave up a home run to leadoff man Kyle Schwarber in the first and was hit hard in the four-run third. The 29-year-old eventually settled down, retiring the last seven hitters he faced, but the damage had already been done. Montas made only two appearances in the preseason and may need a little time to regain his form. Surrounded by trade rumors all spring, he'll be given every opportunity to right the ship and showcase his abilities.

Means allowed one run on six hits and a walk over four innings in Friday's loss to the Rays. He struck out five and did not factor in the decision.

Means worked two scoreless frames to begin the game before loading the bases in the third inning. He managed to escape after yielding just one run on a sacrifice fly by Brandon Lowe. The 28-year-old southpaw posted a 3.62 ERA across 146.2 innings last season and will spend another year as Baltimore's ace. Means is lined up to face the Brewers at home next week.

McClanahan allowed four hits and two walks over 4.1 scoreless innings in Friday's win over Baltimore. He struck out seven and did not factor in the decision.

McClanahan ran into some trouble in the first inning after his first pitch of the season plunked Cedric Mullins, and he eventually found himself in a one-out, bases-loaded jam before escaping the first inning. He settled in nicely after that and finished his day throwing 44 of 68 pitches for strikes, with his fastball topping out in triple digits. The 6-foot-1 lefty is expected to face Oakland at home next week.

Giolito left his start Friday against the Tigers with abdominal tightness in his left side.

Giolito certainly wasn't pitching as if he was at less than 100 percent. In four innings, he allowed just a single hit, striking out six while walking two. Whether or not he'll have to miss time should become clear following further tests.

Kaprielian (shoulder) will throw three simulated innings Sunday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Kaprielian has been dealing with AC joint irritation since early in camp. While that will cost him at least the first few weeks of the season, he's been making steady progress. He'll continue stretching out at the team's spring training complex before embarking on a rehab assignment.
