Giolito (4-4) was charged with the loss Wednesday against the Blue Jays after surrendering seven runs on 11 hits with three strikeouts and one walk across five innings.

Giolito generated 10 swinging strikes on 95 pitches but gave up five extra-base hits, including a grand slam to Bo Bichette during the fourth inning. The right-hander had a 2.63 ERA through his first seven starts of the year, but in his past five outings he's allowed 30 runs (27 earned) with a 25:11 K:BB over 25.2 innings. Giolito tentatively lines up to next take the mound Monday against the Angels.

Ober (groin) has started playing catch and said he's hopeful to return to the mound and throw a bullpen by the end of this week, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Ober has an aponeurotic plate injury, which he described as a tendon pulling on his pelvic bone, the Star Tribune adds. Ober could make the first of likely several rehab starts next week.

Garcia (5-5) earned the win Wednesday against the Mets after giving up three runs on six hits with five strikeouts and one walk over five innings.

The 25-year-old held New York to one run through five frames, but he returned for the sixth inning and was lifted after allowing the first three batters to reach base, two of which came around to score. Despite the late struggles, it was another solid outing for Garcia, who has a 14:1 K:BB while picking up wins in each of his past two outings. The right-hander tentatively lines up for a rematch with the Mets on the road next week.

Skubal (5-5) allowed six runs on six hits across 4.2 innings to take the loss Wednesday against the Red Sox. He walked three and struck out five.

Skubal dropped his third straight decision, and the lefty has struggled during this stretch, allowing 15 earned runs across 13.2 innings. It's been quite the reversal for Skubal, who had a stellar 2.33 ERA before the rough patch. His current 3.63 ERA still looks pretty good, though it might not stay below 4.00 for long if he keeps pitching like this. The 25-year-old will look to get back on track in his next scheduled start Tuesday against the Giants.

Detmers was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Detmers surrendered five runs across five innings Tuesday against the Royals, which was apparently the final straw before losing his spot in the rotation and on the big-league roster. The 22-year-old delivered a no-hitter May 10 against the Rays but otherwise failed to produce a quality start. Overall Detmers has a 4.66 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 44:21 K:BB over 58 innings this season, and he could receive another look in the majors later in the summer if he's able to get back on track with Salt Lake.

Whitlock (hip) threw a simulated game Tuesday, but the Red Sox won't have him start during their three-game series in Cleveland this weekend, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

After completing a 20-pitch bullpen session last Saturday, Whitlock took another step forward three days later by facing hitters. When Whitlock was placed on the 15-day injured list June 10 with an inflamed right hip, the Red Sox had hope that he would be ready to go in the minimum amount of time, but he looks like he'll need at least a few additional days to get stretched back out. Whitlock is eligible to return this weekend, but the Red Sox have already announced Nick Pivetta, Josh Winckowksi and Rich Hill as their three starters for the Cleveland series. Whitlock will likely be re-evaluated within the next day or two before the Red Sox decide if he'll be ready to rejoin the big club next week or if he'll first require a rehab start in the minors.

Whitley (elbow) is scheduled to make his second rehab start Wednesday for Single-A Fayetteville, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

After making a two-inning rehab start June 16 with the Astros' rookie-level Florida Complex League in his first game action of 2022, Whitley will report to a full-season affiliate as he continues his ramp-up program. Since he hasn't pitched since the 2019 season while recovering from March 2021 Tommy John surgery, Whitley will likely require at least a couple more starts with Fayetteville or another lower-level affiliate before eventually slotting into Triple-A Sugar Land's rotation.

Martin was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday.

Martin will return to Triple-A after being recalled June 14. He appeared in two games while in the big leagues, surrendering three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three over 5.2 innings. The move was made in correspondence with Matt Foster's return from the bereavement list Wednesday. Martin will remain a top option for another call up moving forward.

Civale gave up two earned runs on five hits and a walk while striking out seven over five innings in a 6-5 win over the Twins on Tuesday. He did not factor into the decision.

Civale has had a very poor showing so far in 2022 after picking up 12 wins on a 1.12 WHIP over 124.1 innings last year. His 7.25 ERA is abysmal, and Civale is throwing his 91 mph fastball 29% of the time despite opponents hitting .400 against the pitch. His start against the Twins marked only the third time that he has made it though five innings so far this season. With a tendency to get pulled early from games, Civale is unlikely to be in line for many win opportunities this season. However, seven strikeouts in his first start since being activated from the injured list with a glute ailment is an encouraging sign. His next start tentatively lines up for Sunday against the Red Sox.

Ryan gave up three earned runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out seven over six innings in a 6-5 loss to the Guardians on Tuesday. He did not factor into the decision.

Ryan bounced back from a poor outing the last time out against the Mariners to pitch a quality start and miss plenty of bats. His 101 pitches are the second most he has thrown this season, and the three earned runs he gave up raised his ERA to an even 3.00 on the year. The rookie right-hander's 3.42 xERA and 4.47 xFIP suggest that his solid numbers to date could be in line for some regression. Ryan lines up to next take the hill this weekend at home against the Rockies.
