However, he's posted a more promising 3.62 FIP along with a career-best 10.7 K/9, so the potential for a turnaround is there if he can solve his issues and go deeper into games.

Sale will undergo an MRI on his left shoulder Friday, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Sale was pulled from Thursday's game against Cincinnati due to shoulder soreness and experienced a drop in velocity during his start. The results of his MRI will provide an idea of how long he could be out for, but early signs are concerning. The 34-year-old southpaw held a 2.25 ERA and 0.75 WHIP across his last five starts entering Thursday.

Sale was pulled from Thursday's game against Cincinnati due to left shoulder soreness, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

The severity of Sale's injury remains unknown, but his shoulder has now been confirmed to be the reason for his early exit. It's possible Sale spends time on the injured list, but he will likely undergo some imaging before any decision is made.

Sale was visited on the mound by trainers twice during the fourth inning before eventually being pulled. Not much is known regarding the specifics of his injury, but whatever is bothering him caused a significant dip in velocity through just 59 pitches. The Red Sox will take a look at him and provide more information relatively soon.

McKenzie (shoulder) will be reinstated from the 60-day injured list to start Sunday's game in Minnesota, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.

McKenzie suffered a teres major muscle strain in his final Cactus League start this spring and wound up missing the first two months of the 2023 regular season, but he's ready to rock now following three minor-league rehab outings with Triple-A Columbus. The young right-hander broke out to the tune of a 2.96 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 190:44 K:BB over 191.1 regular-season innings last year with Cleveland.

Quantrill will be placed on the 15-day injured list Friday due to right shoulder inflammation, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

Quantrill's shoulder injury could help explain his recent struggles, as he allowed eight runs through 4.1 innings during his last start Tuesday. He received an injection Thursday and will be shut down for a few days before beginning a throwing program. Quantrill's move to the IL will make room for Aaron Civale (oblique) to return Friday.

Gausman (4-3) struck out 11 and allowed five hits and two walks across 6.2 scoreless innings to earn the win Thursday against the Brewers.

The right-hander produced 34 called or swinging strikes as he shut down Milwaukee to help deliver a series win for Toronto. Gausman has been dominant over his past five starts and has given up just five earns runs with 42 strikeouts during that span. The 32-year-old has a 2.76 ERA and 100:18 K:BB through 75 innings this season, and he tentatively lines up for a matchup with the Astros next week.

Clevinger (wrist) is expected to return from the 15-day injured list to start Friday's series opener versus the Tigers at Guaranteed Rate Field, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.

Jesse Scholtens had been serving as the White Sox's No. 5 starter since Clevinger landed on the IL on May 21, but manager Pedro Grifol's decision to use Scholtens in long relief behind Lance Lynn in Wednesday's loss to the Angels signals that Clevinger is on track to be activated this weekend. Since Clevinger tossed a simulated game Monday, Grifol acknowledged that he may look to shave about 10 pitches off the right-hander's normal workload if he does in fact get the green light to start Friday on three days' rest.
