Schmidt did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk over five innings against Houston. He struck out four.

Schmidt's now gone 14 straight starts without allowing more than three runs. His last loss came June 6 -- since then, he's gone 5-0 with a 3.75 ERA across 10 starts. Overall, the 27-year-old Schmidt is 7-6 with a 4.35 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 103:30 K:BB across 22 starts (109.2 innings) this season. He's currently lined up for a road matchup with the White Sox in his next outing.

Javier did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks over 4.2 innings in a 4-3 loss to the Yankees. He struck out four.

Javier was tagged for three runs on back-to-back homers in the first inning, though he'd ultimately settle down and blank the Yankees over his final 3.2 frames. Javier has pitched better of late, holding opponents to three runs or fewer in his last four outings after struggling to a 9.14 ERA in his prior five starts. Overall, his ERA sits at 4.39 with a 1.21 WHIP and 107:38 K:BB across 21 starts (112.2 innings) this season. Javier's currently in line for a road matchup against the Orioles in his next start.

Gausman (8-6) took the loss Thursday, allowing three runs on eight hits and two walks over 4.1 innings against Baltimore. He struck out six.

Gausman allowed multiple baserunners in three separate frames and was pulled with one out in the fifth after a Ryan O'Hearn single. This marks the 32-year-old right-hander's shortest outing since he went just 3.1 innings against the Red Sox on May 4. However, it's worth noting that Gausman had been exceptional between these two rough starts, going 6-2 with a 2.73 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 113:25 K:BB across 85.2 innings during that stretch. He will look to rebound in his next start, which is tentatively scheduled to come against Cleveland.

McClanahan was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday with left forearm tightness, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

In a short statement to reporters, the Rays said only that they are "in the process of gathering further information and updates will be provided when available." This all sounds ominous after McClanahan was pulled from his start Wednesday against the Yankees due to forearm discomfort, shortly after he surrendered five earned runs on a double, two singles and two homers in the bottom of the third inning. Topkin reported previously the 26-year-old ace is headed for "additional imaging" and "additional opinions" on his left arm.

Flaherty (8-6) earned the win Thursday, allowing one run on four hits and two walks over six innings in a 6-1 win over the Blue Jays. He struck out eight.

After allowing a single and a walk to start the game, Flaherty settled in, retiring 15 consecutive Blue Jays in dominant fashion. His only blemish came on an RBI single by Vladimir Guerrero in the sixth. The recently acquired 27-year-old has now earned wins in five of his last seven outings despite a 4.00 ERA and 1.47 WHIP across 36 innings during that span. Flaherty is tentatively scheduled to face Houston in his next start.

McClanahan (forearm) will be placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

McClanahan was lifted from his start Wednesday against the Yankees after experiencing left forearm tightness in the bottom of the fourth inning. There is no exact diagnosis yet, but the 26-year-old ace is headed for imaging scans and is expected to seek out multiple opinions in an effort to get to the root of the issue. He'll be sidelined through at least mid-August, and perhaps far longer. More should be known in the coming days.

Urquidy (shoulder) is tentatively scheduled to return from the 60-day injured list to start Sunday versus the Yankees, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Urquidy first has to make it through one final bullpen session, but he's knocking on the door for a return after missing all of May, June and July because of shoulder inflammation. The 28-year-old right-hander struggled in his fourth and final rehab start last weekend at Triple-A Sugar Land, yielding five earned runs on nine hits over five innings, but he threw 76 pitches in that outing and 56 of them went for strikes. He could touch 90 pitches in his first start back with Houston.

Astros manager Dusty Baker said Verlander is lined up to start Saturday against the Yankees, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Acquired from the Mets just ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline in exchange for prospects Drew Gilbert and Ryan Clifford, the veteran right-hander is all set to go ring chasing again in an Astros uniform. It sounds like Jose Urquidy (shoulder) will come off the 60-day injured list and follow Verlander in Sunday's series finale at Yankee Stadium.

The Twins selected Keuchel's contract from Triple-A St. Paul on Thursday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Keuchel exercised the opt-out in his minor-league contract with Minnesota on Tuesday, but the Twins suddenly need him as a replacement for Joe Ryan, who has landed on the 15-day injured list because of a groin strain. Keuchel, 35, had registered a stellar 1.13 ERA in 32 innings (six starts) with St. Paul and is back in the majors for the first time since September of 2022.

Ryan was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a left groin strain, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Ryan was excellent in the first half of the season, but he got hammered by the Cardinals on Wednesday night in St. Louis and has stumbled to an 8.63 ERA across his last seven starts covering 32.1 innings. He'll be sidelined through at least Aug. 18. Dallas Keuchel is joining the Twins in a corresponding roster move and will presumably slide into the rotation.
