Wells will start for Double-A Bowie on Saturday, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.

Wells was optioned to Bowie in late July as a bit of a reset after getting roughed up in his first three second-half outings. He allowed one run over 3.1 innings in his first start for Bowie this past Saturday and will take the ball for that team again on six days' rest. Cole Irvin is likely starting for the Orioles on Saturday as part of a six-man rotation and it's not a coincidence that he's on the same schedule as Wells, as the hope is the righty will eventually slide back into the big-league rotation. When that could happen, however, remains up in the air.

Marsh will serve as the Royals' bulk reliever behind opener Austin Cox in Thursday's game in Boston, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

Since recording a career-high 11 strikeouts in his third MLB start July 15 versus the Rays, Marsh has labored over his last four outings (three starts), compiling an 8.31 ERA and 1.92 WHIP over that stretch while striking out no more than four batters on any occasion. The Royals will have Marsh enter the game behind an opener with the hope that the arrangement delivers better results from the young right-hander. If Marsh struggles again, however, he could be at risk of losing his spot in Kansas City's rotation.

Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said Thursday that Irvin is "probable" to start Saturday in Seattle as the team moves to a six-man rotation, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports.

The O's have lots of young arms in their rotation, so going to a six-man setup allows the club to ease their foot off the gas a bit with workloads. Irvin isn't guaranteed to be the sixth man for long, as Tyler Wells is slated to start for Double-A Bowie on Saturday, and the hope is that Wells will be ready to rejoin Baltimore's rotation at some point.

Ryu (knee) is listed as the Blue Jays' scheduled starter Sunday versus the Cubs, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports.

Ryu was forced from his previous outing Monday in Cleveland after being struck on the right knee by a comebacker. X-rays came back clean, however, and he is on track to take the ball for his next turn, provided he gets through a bullpen session Friday with no issues. The left-hander had tossed four scoreless innings against the Guardians before his exit.

Faedo did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks over 4.2 innings against the Twins. He struck out five.

All the damage against Faedo came in the third inning on homers by Carlos Correa and Joey Gallo. The 27-year-old right-hander was solid otherwise, though he'd depart in the fifth inning after throwing 85 pitches. Overall, Faedo is 2-4 this season with a 5.80 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 35:10 K:BB across eight starts (40.1 innings). He figures to stay in the rotation following Michael Lorenzen's trade to Philadelphia. Faedo's next start is tentatively lined up as a rematch with the Twins on the road.

Lyles (3-13) took the loss Wednesday, giving up four runs on seven hits and a walk over eight innings as the Royals were downed 4-3 by the Red Sox. He struck out six.

The veteran right-hander delivered his second complete game of the season in a road loss, and it's indicative of Kansas City's season that Lyles lost the other one too (May 9 against the White Sox.) He fired 70 of 102 pitches for strikes, and while he can provide the Royals with innings, that's about the extent of his value given his 6.13 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 88:35 K:BB through 126.1 frames this season. He'll next take the mound for a home start early next week against the Mariners.

Flaherty (8-7) took the loss Wednesday, giving up three runs on six hits and two walks over five innings as the Orioles fell 8-2 to the Astros. He struck out eight.

The right-hander's second start with Baltimore didn't go nearly as well as his first, as Kyle Tucker launched a two-run homer off Flaherty in the first inning, but he settled down after that and kept the game close until the O's bullpen unraveled late. Flaherty has an impressive 16:4 K:BB through his first 11 innings with his new squad, and since the beginning of July he sports a 3.10 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 42:14 K:BB through 40.2 frames and seven outings. He'll look for a better result in his next start, likely to come early next week in San Diego.

Montgomery (7-10) took the loss Wednesday, allowing two runs on seven hits and one walk over six innings against the Athletics. He struck out five.

Montgomery did a good job of pitching his way out of jams for most of the afternoon, with the first run coming off a sacrifice fly from Jonah Bride. The lefty then allowed a leadoff homer to Zack Gelof to open the sixth but was able to get through the inning without allowing any further damage. Montgomery has now logged three consecutive quality starts, though he's just 1-2 over that stretch. He's also given up at least six hits in four of his last five outings and at least one long ball in four straight.

Javier (8-2) picked up the win in Wednesday's 8-2 victory over the Orioles, giving up two runs on four hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out three.

Incredibly, Javier's last win came all the way back on June 3, as over his prior nine starts he'd gone 0-1 with a 6.91 ERA and 1.56 WHIP. Homers have been his biggest concern of late, as the right-hander has served up nine in his last 34.2 innings -- including a two-run shot by Austin Hays on Wednesday -- but he was able to avoid any other damage in this one. Javier will attempt to put together an actual win streak in his next outing, likely to come early next week in Miami.

Severino (2-7) took the loss against the White Sox on Wednesday, allowing four runs on five hits and one walk while striking out two batters over two-plus innings.

The Yankees moved Severino behind an opener (Ian Hamilton) in an attempt to fix his first-inning struggles, but the adjustment didn't make much of a difference. Severino came on in the second frame and fell behind 3-0 after the fourth batter he faced, Oscar Colas, tagged him for a two-run homer. Severino allowed another run in the third and was pulled after issuing a leadoff walk in the fourth. The right-hander has struggled massively since the start of July, posting an 11.71 ERA and 2.39 WHIP while serving up 10 home runs over 27.2 innings. New York may need to do more than just place Severino behind an opener to help solve the problems that have led to him posting an ugly 8.06 ERA though 14 starts this season.
