Yankees' Carlos Rodon: Tosses five innings in win
Rodon (2-4) pitched five innings Friday, surrendering two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out four batters on his way to a win in a 6-2 victory over the Astros.
Rodon put together another strong start, allowing two or fewer runs for the third straight outing. He gave up a solo homer to Jose Abreu in the bottom of the second inning, and then an RBI double by Kyle Tucker in the third accounted for the final run on the left-hander's line. Since Aug. 22, Rodon has posted a 2.87 ERA over 15.2 innings in three starts.

Joe Ryan SP | MIN
Twins' Joe Ryan: Fans seven in win
Ryan (10-8) allowed one run on three hits across six innings Friday, striking out seven and earning a win over Texas.

Despite the strong outing, he threw a season-low 74 pitches, though he still managed to force 14 whiffs. Ryan lowered his season ERA to 4.20 with a 166:27 K:BB through 24 starts. He's currently lined up to start in Cleveland next week.

Tigers' Casey Mize: Could throw again next week
Mize (elbow/shoulder) is aiming to resume his throwing program early next week, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
Mize experienced some shoulder fatigue while tossing live batting practice Wednesday, but it shouldn't be too much of a setback in his recovery from Tommy John surgery. That said, the 26-year-old right-hander could run out of time to make it back to the majors before the conclusion of the 2023 regular season.
