The Royals optioned Bowlan to Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday.

The move comes a day after Bowlan lased just 2.2 innings in a start versus the Blue Jays, yielding four runs on six hits and three walks. Bowlan returns to Omaha, where he's posted a 2.57 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 21:5 K:BB across 21 frames this season.

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch confirmed that Manning will be called up from Triple-A Toledo to start the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader versus the Cardinals, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Manning had been on turn at Toledo but instead will take the hill Tuesday with the big club since they have a need for a spot starter. The right-hander has looked good in his two previous starts with Detroit this season, yielding four runs while putting up a 10:6 K:BB over 12.1 innings. He will be designated as the 27th man for Tuesday's doubleheader and is likely to be sent back down to the minors after the start.

Crochet didn't factor into the decision Monday, allowing two runs on two hits and one walk across five innings against the Twins. He struck out seven.

After surrendering five or more runs in three straight starts, Crochet snapped out of the funk and only allowed the Twins to score on a two-run homer by Carlos Santana in the second frame. Crochet also had strong command, walking just one batter after yielding seven walks and two hit-by-pitches in his last three outings. Although Crochet has been inconsistent to kick off 2024, his strikeout stuff has been elite, boasting the second most K's in baseball. He's lined up for a Saturday start against the Cardinals.

Miller allowed one run on two hits and one walk while striking out 10 batters over seven innings in a no-decision against Atlanta on Monday.

Miller racked up 17 whiffs en route to a season-high 10 punchouts while mostly silencing a potent Atlanta offense. However, opposing starter Max Fried was even better with six hitless frames, and Miller actually departed in line for the loss after giving up a run in the seventh. He was taken off the hook, though, when Mitch Garver belted a walk-off homer in the ninth inning. The outing was Miller's fourth quality start over his past five appearances, and he's given up just four earned runs across 30.1 frames during that span. His 2.04 overall ERA ranks 12th among qualified MLB starters.

Ryan didn't factor into the decision Monday, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk across six innings against the White Sox. He struck out three.

Although Ryan tallied his lowest strikeout total of the campaign, he cashed in on his fourth quality start of his last five appearances. After yielding a pair of home runs to the White Sox in his last start, Ryan limited the team to just one extra-base hit on the day. He owns a 1.3 BB/9 through 34.2 innings in 2024, another improvement after posting a 2.9 BB/9 in 2022 and a 1.9 BB/9 in 2023. Ryan is tentatively scheduled for a start against the Sox of Boston on Sunday.

Rodriguez didn't factor into the decision Monday, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and three walks over 3.2 innings. He struck out one.

Rodriguez struggled to get quick outs, getting pulled after 82 pitches without completing four innings. He's yet to go deeper than four frames this season and owns a 4.11 ERA and a 1.76 WHIP on the year. If Alek Manoah (shoulder) isn't ready to rejoin the rotation, Rodriguez should slot into another start Sunday at Washington.

Bowlan (0-1) took the loss Monday against Toronto, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks over 2.2 innings. He struck out three.

Bowlan was called up to replace Alec Marsh (elbow) in the Royals rotation, making his second career start and first MLB appearance of 2024. The 27-year-old was tagged for three home runs: a two-run homer and a solo homer to Justin Turner and a solo shot to Danny Jansen. Although Marsh will miss at least one more start, it wouldn't be surprising if the Royals look to somebody other than Bowlan to fill the fifth spot in the rotation after his awful showing Monday.

Canning allowed four runs on three hits and five walks over five innings in a no-decision Monday. He struck out one during the win over Philadelphia.

Canning was tagged with three runs in the first inning but held the Phillies off the score sheet until they pushed across another run in the fifth. He threw just 44 of 86 pitches for strikes and set a new season high with five free passes. Canning had walked three batters over his previous three starts (14.1 innings). His ERA sits at 7.45 with a 21:12 K:BB through 29 frames. Canning is projected to start in Cleveland this weekend.

Boyle (2-4) yielded a run on one hit and four walks over five innings Monday, striking out four and earning a win over the Pirates.

Boyle was charged with a run on a wild pitch in the first inning but otherwise didn't face much trouble. However, his command still continues to cause issues; he threw just 45 of 91 pitches for strikes, including only six whiffs. Boyle now owns a chaotic 28:20 K:BB with a 6.08 ERA through 26.2 innings (six starts). He's completed over five innings just one time this season. Boyle's next matchup is currently projected to be at home against the Marlins this weekend.

Pepiot (3-2) yielded two hits over six shutout frames Monday, striking out seven and earning a win over the Brewers.

Pepiot was nearly untouchable Monday, allowing just one Brewer to reach scoring position. At one point, he retired 14 consecutive batters. He's produced three straight quality starts and four in his six appearances this year. Over his last outings, Pepiot has given up just two runs with an 18:5 K:BB through 18 innings. He'll carry a 3.12 ERA into his next start, which is projected to be at home against the Mets this weekend.
