Flexen allowed three hits and four walks while striking out one over four scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Cubs on Saturday.

Flexen was generous, but the Cubs didn't strike until he was out of the game. The right-hander threw just 40 of 78 pitches for strikes while failing to complete five innings for the fourth time in his last five appearances. He's on a 17-start winless skid, and he's pitched to a 5.34 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 84:50 K:BB over 118 innings over 25 appearances (23 starts) in 2024. Flexen's next outing is projected to be at Houston.

Rodriguez (1-5) took the loss against the Athletics on Saturday, allowing one run on five hits and one walk with five strikeouts over 5.2 innings.

Rodriguez was locked in a pitcher's duel with Osvaldo Bido before surrendering a solo homer to Brent Rooker in the sixth inning, and that was all the Athletics would need for the win. Rodriguez reached a season-high 85 pitches and has yielded two earned runs or fewer in nine of 12 starts this season. The 27-year-old owns a 3.60 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 52:25 K:BB across 50 innings and lines up for a road matchup with the Cubs next week.

Daniel will not start Sunday's game against the Nationals, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

The Angels had previously named Daniel as the starter for Sunday's series finale, even though he would be pitching on three days' rest after tossing 83 pitches in the first game of a doubleheader with the Yankees on Wednesday. However, the team will now switch course and call up Jack Kochanowicz from Double-A Rocket City to start Sunday instead of having Daniel take the hill on short rest. Daniel is a candidate to pitch Monday against the Blue Jays on regular rest, though the Angels haven't released their probable starters for the three-game home series.

Kochanowicz will start Sunday's game against the Nationals, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

With a rainout forcing the Angels into a doubleheader Wednesday, the team was in need of a starter for Sunday's game and recalled Kochanowicz from Double-A Rocket City to fill the void. The 23-year-old has made two starts for the Angels this season, surrendering 11 runs across seven frames. He isn't a recommended streaming option for Sunday.

General manager Mike Elias said Saturday that Rodriguez (lat) will be shut down from throwing for 10 days and hopes Rodriguez will be back sometime in September, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Rodriguez is dealing with a mild right lat strain and was placed on the IL on Wednesday. While he'll be eligible to return Aug. 19, he's not expected to be activated until September. The 24-year-old has a 3.86 ERA and 130 strikeouts over 116.2 innings this season. Albert Suarez started in Rodriguez's place Tuesday and is expected to remain in the rotation while Rodriguez is sidelined.

Manager Bruce Bochy said that Eovaldi was removed early from his start in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader due to right side tightness, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Eovaldi was able to get through only three innings in his start Saturday, during which he allowed three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four batters. It's unclear how his injury will impact his status for his next scheduled start -- tentatively slated to come next week versus Minnesota -- but more will be known once the Rangers get an opportunity to take a closer look at him.

Rodon (13-7) picked up the win in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Rangers, allowing three hits and five walks over 5.2 scoreless innings. He struck out six.

The southpaw wasn't exactly sharp as he set a new season high in free passes, but Rodon kept Texas from cashing in the extra baserunners en route to his fourth straight win. He was lifted after 110 pitches (64 strikes), falling just short of his 13th quality start of the year. Rodon has given up three runs or less in five straight outings, posting a 2.54 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 38:13 K:BB through 28.1 innings over that stretch. He'll look to keep rolling in his next start, which is scheduled to come next weekend on the road in Detroit.

Eovaldi (8-6) took the loss in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Yankees, giving up three runs on six hits and two walks over three innings. He struck out four.

The Rangers wound up getting shut out 8-0 in the matinee, and Eovaldi didn't help matters by needing 81 pitches (50 strikes) to record only nine outs. The veteran right-hander has been tagged for eight runs in eight innings over his first two starts in August, a steep decline from a July that saw him deliver five quality starts in six trips to the mound with a 3.23 ERA and dazzling 32:0 K:BB in 39 innings. Eovaldi will look to re-discover that form in his next outing, which lines up to come at home next week against the Twins.

The Angels recalled Kochanowicz from Double-A Rocket City on Saturday.

Kochanowicz was recalled from Double-A on Wednesday before being optioned back two days later without making an appearance. He'll now rejoin the Angels and will most likely be used as a long relief option out of the bullpen. Jose Marte (illness) was placed on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move.

Lorenzen came away with a no-decision in Friday's 8-5 loss to the Cardinals, giving up three runs on six hits and two walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out three.

The veteran right-hander had trouble putting hitters away despite generating 28 called or swinging strikes among his 88 pitches, and Lorenzen failed to complete five innings for the second time in his last three starts. Since his last quality start back on June 18, he's posted a shaky 5.22 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 33:22 K:BB in 39.2 innings, but the Royals are still hoping he can steady the back of their rotation as they fight to hang onto a wild-card spot. Lorenzen is scheduled to make his next trip to the mound on the road next weekend in Cincinnati.
