    Angels' Caden Dana: Recalled ahead of Wednesday's start

    The Angels recalled Dana from Triple-A Salt Lake ahead of his start Wednesday in Kansas City.

    Dana will be making his first appearance at the big-league level since late May. The 21-year-old holds a 5.93 ERA through 82 frames in Triple-A this season and has permitted 16 earned runs in 16.1 innings at the big-league level. With Victor Mederos (shoulder) and Tyler Anderson (oblique) both on the shelf, Dana could receive multiple turns through the Los Angeles rotation.

    Mariners' Jose Castillo: Claimed by Mariners

    The Mariners claimed Castillo off waivers from the Mets on Wednesday.

    Castillo posted a 2.35 ERA and 19:6 K:BB over 15.1 innings with the Mets but was unable to lock down a steady roster spot. He'll now join the Mariners as a middle reliever.

    Tigers' Kyle Finnegan: Dealing with groin issue

    Finnegan experienced right groin tightness while warming up in the bullpen during Wednesday's game against the Mets, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

    The right-hander was preparing to enter the game in the seventh inning before cutting short his warmup routine. Finnegan has been a key high-leverage arm for the Tigers since being acquired from the Nationals on July 31, firing 14.1 scoreless innings over 12 appearances with a 19:3 K:BB, two holds, three wins and four saves. Should he end up missing significant time, Tommy Kahnle and Tyler Holton would likely step up as setup men for Will Vest.

    Brewers' Joel Payamps: Back in big-league bullpen

    The Brewers selected Payamps' contract from Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday.

    Payamps was removed from the Brewers' 40-man roster back in May after holding an 8.35 ERA and 1.69 WHIP through 18.1 innings with the big club. However, he's made his way back to the majors after posting a 4.73 ERA and 30:6 K:BB across 26.2 frames with Nashville.

    Brewers' Shelby Miller: Out for season with UCL sprain

    The Brewers placed Miller on the 60-day injured list Wednesday due to a right elbow UCL sprain.

    Miller suffered the injury during an appearance in Monday's 10-8 loss to the Phillies. According to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, Miller acknowledged that he could require the second Tommy John surgery of his career to address the UCL injury, but even if he opts to treat the injury with rest and rehab, he won't be eligible to pitch again this season. Joel Payamps was recalled from Triple-A Nashville to take Miller's spot on the 40-man roster and in the bullpen.

    Angels' Victor Mederos: Shut down for season

    The Angels transferred Mederos (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday.

    Mederos landed on the 15-day IL on Aug. 24 after he experiencing shoulder inflammation coming out of his third start of the season for the Angels, and his move to the 60-day IL now spells an end to his 2025 campaign. Assuming Mederos doesn't require any sort of procedure to address his shoulder injury, he should be back to full health for spring training, when he'll be looking to compete for a spot in the Halos' Opening Day rotation.

    Nationals' Sauryn Lao: Claimed by Nationals

    The Nationals claimed Lao off waivers from the Mariners on Wednesday and optioned him to Triple-A Rochester.

    Lao has been knocked around during his brief time in the majors, but he's collected a 3.13 ERA and 73:19 K:BB over 69 innings this season at Triple-A Tacoma. He'll report to Rochester for now but could get a look with the major-league club before the end of the season.

    Tigers' Paul Sewald: Faces hitters

    Sewald (shoulder) threw live batting practice Monday at the Tigers' facility in Florida, MLB.com reports.

    Sewald will likely face hitters on one or two more occasions before the Tigers send him out on a minor-league rehab assignment. Acquired from the Guardians on July 31, Sewald has yet to make his Tigers debut while recovering from a moderate teres major strain that he sustained prior to the trade. He's eligible to return from the 60-day injured list Sept. 10 and could be activated shortly after that date.

    Cubs' Caleb Thielbar: Secures another hold

    Thielbar tossed a scoreless inning of relief with a strikeout to record a hold in Tuesday's 4-3 win over Atlanta.

    Thielbar is now up to 19 holds for the year, which is good for second on the team behind Brad Keller's 22. The veteran lefty has been locked in lately, as he's recorded nine straight scoreless appearances. Overall, Thielbar has an elite 1.99 ERA and 0.83 WHIP to go along with 48 strikeouts in 49.2 innings out of the bullpen this season, his first with the Cubs.

  • Reds' Lyon Richardson: Summoned from minors

    The Reds recalled Richardson from Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday.

    Richardson will provide the Reds with a fresh arm after they went with a bullpen game in Tuesday's 12-9 loss to the Blue Jays. He's collected a 3.93 ERA and 30:20 K:BB over 36.2 frames during his time with the big club this season.
