  • Daniel Bard RP | COL

Rockies' Daniel Bard: Bounces back for 26th save

Bard gave up one hit in a scoreless ninth inning of work to earn the save in a 7-6 victory over the Rangers on Tuesday. He struck out one batter.

Bard bounced back after giving up a run to blow the save in his last appearance against the Giants on Sunday. This time, he helped the Rockies hang on to a one-run lead with a clean ninth-inning appearance. Overall, Bard has been excellent this season and boasts a 2.22 ERA to go along with 26 saves, three wins and 51 strikeouts over 44.2 innings pitched.

  • Yankees' Wandy Peralta: Collects second save

Peralta recorded the final out of Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Mets to pick up his second save of the season.

Clarke Schmidt tried to do his best Goose Gossage impression and save the rest of the bullpen by working three scoreless innings in relief of Frankie Montas, but after Schmidt loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth inning, Peralta was brought in and got Francisco Lindor to fly out. With Clay Holmes (back) and Scott Effross (shoulder) both on the injured list and Aroldis Chapman still untrustworthy, just about every Yankees reliever could find himself in a save situation, but Peralta might be the top high-leverage lefty the club has at the moment. On the season, he sports a 2.44 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 38:17 K:BB through 48 innings with two wins and eight holds in addition to his saves.

  • Josh Fleming RP | TOR

Rays' Josh Fleming: Begins rehab assignment

Fleming (oblique) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham on Tuesday, according to MLB.com.

Fleming has been sidelined since July 12 and was projected to miss up to a month. He threw 31 pitches across two innings as a reliever with Durham on Tuesday, so he could beat his original timeline if the Rays intend to utilize him as a reliever across the final month of the season.

  • Bryan Abreu RP | HOU

Astros' Bryan Abreu: Earns second save

Abreu issued a walk in a scoreless one-third of an inning to earn the save in a 4-2 victory over the Twins on Tuesday.

Abreu came on in relief of Hector Neris with two outs in the ninth. Neris had come into the game with a 4-0 lead but gave up two runs and was pulled with two men on. Abreu loaded the bases on a walk but struck out a struggling Jake Cave on a nasty 0-2 slider to close out the game for his second save of the season. Astros manager Dusty Baker explained after the game that closer Ryan Pressly was unavailable due to a reoccurrence of neck stiffness.

  • Jon Heasley RP | TB

Royals' Jonathan Heasley: Records scoreless start

Heasley gave up four hits and four walks while striking out two over 4.2 scoreless innings in a 7-3 loss to the Diamondbacks on Tuesday. He did not factor into the decision.

Heasley was recalled from Triple-A to make the start in lieu of Brad Keller who was moved to the bullpen last week. Heasley had struggled in 13 previous starts this season, but he managed to hold the Diamondbacks off the board through 4.2 innings on 79 pitches. Heasley's four walks could have gotten him into trouble against a stronger lineup. The 25-year-old right-hander has a 48:33 K:BB through 65 innings pitched. He is tentatively expected to make his next start at the White Sox, when he will look for his second win of the season.

  • Xzavion Curry RP | NYM

Guardians' Xzavion Curry: Back in Triple-A

Curry was optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Aug. 16.

Curry made his major-league debut Aug. 15, allowing three runs in five innings versus the Tigers, but it was only a spot start. He pitched for Columbus on Tuesday, getting rocked for eight runs (six earned) on seven hits and three walks with two strikeouts in 3.2 innings in his first appearance back with the affiliate.

  • Emmanuel Clase RP | CLE

Guardians' Emmanuel Clase: Converts 29th save

Clase struck out two in a perfect inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Padres.

Clase is on a 7.1-inning scoreless streak, having allowed just two hits while striking out 11 in that span. He's converted 23 straight save chances and is now 29-for-31 on the year. The flame-throwing righty has also maintained excellent ratios with a 1.20 ERA, 0.65 WHIP and 57:6 K:BB through 52.2 innings this year as one of the top closers in baseball.

  • Paul Sewald RP | TOR

Mariners' Paul Sewald: Yields run but earns save

Sewald allowed a run on two hits and struck out one over one inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Nationals.

Sewald gave up an RBI single to Lane Thomas in the ninth inning, ending the right-hander's 10-inning streak without allowing an earned run. He still got the save after stopping the damage there. The 32-year-old is 16-for-19 in save chances this year while pitching to an excellent 2.36 ERA, 0.66 WHIP and 55:12 K:BB through 49.2 innings. The save Tuesday was his first in nearly two weeks, though no other Mariner reliever had logged one since Sewald's previous save (Aug. 10).

  • Giants' Gregory Santos: Lands on 60-day IL

Santos was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento and placed on the 60-day injured list Tuesday with a right groin strain, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The right-hander was placed on the 7-day IL over the weekend by Sacramento, and the Giants called up him and moved him to the 60-day IL to free up a spot on the 40-man roster. Santos posted a 4.91 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 34:20 K:BB across 33 innings at Triple-A this year and is set to miss the rest of the season.

  • Tanner Scott RP | LAD

Marlins' Tanner Scott: Converts save Tuesday

Scott allowed a hit and allowed two inherited runners to score in two-thirds of an inning, securing the save in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Athletics.

Cole Sulser began the ninth inning with a five-run lead, but he recorded only one out. Scott had some trouble cleaning up the mess but ultimately closed it out for his 19th save of the season. The 28-year-old southpaw is now 19-for-24 in save chances this season while logging a 4.26 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 70:35 K:BB through 50.2 innings. He's been charged with three runs in eight innings across eight appearances in August.
