Ottavino (1-2) took the loss Wednesday against the Dodgers, coughing up four runs on three hits and a walk in one-third of an inning. He struck out one.

The veteran right-hander melted down in a disastrous eighth inning for the Mets, serving up a solo shot to Will Smith to lead off the frame and watching the two runners he left on base when he exited the mound come around to score. Ottavino has a brutal 9.28 ERA and 2.16 WHIP over 10.2 innings in May, and even with Edwin Diaz (shoulder) now on the IL, his spot in the team's high-leverage mix seems very shaky.

Adams (neck) recorded one out and gave up one hit and one walk in a relief appearance during Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Rays.

Adams was lifted early in his prior appearance Saturday against the Astros due to neck tightness, but the issue wasn't serious enough to warrant a stint on the injured list. The 33-year-old righty owns a 2.55 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 25:8 K:BB in 17.2 innings out of the Oakland bullpen this season and has collected 12 holds.

The Royals optioned Hernandez to Triple-A Omaha on Thursday.

Hernandez didn't make his season debut for the Royals until last week after recovering from a shoulder injury and has allowed one run with a 1:3 K:BB over 2.2 innings covering four appearances. He'll likely be back with the big club sooner rather than later, but the Royals needed to free up a roster spot for Daniel Lynch, who was called up from Omaha to make a spot start Thursday versus the Twins.

The Royals recalled Lynch from Triple-A Omaha on Thursday.

Lynch will make a spot start Thursday in Minnesota in place of Brady Singer (illness), according to Jaylon T. Thompson of The Kansas City Star. The left-hander has made one start and one relief appearance with the Royals this season, tossing a combined seven shutout frames with a 6:2 K:BB. He's had a more difficult time with Omaha, however, collecting a 4.76 ERA and 34:13 K:BB over 45.1 innings. Unless Singer's illness results in him landing on the injured list, Lynch will likely be sent back down to Omaha after Thursday's start.

Mayza walked one batter in a scoreless sixth inning Wednesday to record his eighth hold of the season in a win over the White Sox.

The southpaw had a bumpy start to the season, but Mayza seems to have steadied his ship in May. He's been scored upon only once in his last seven appearances, posting a 1.69 ERA and 1.31 WHIP over 5.1 innings during that stretch with three holds. The 32-year-old remains the top option in the Toronto bullpen from the left side.

The Athletics recalled Harris from Triple-A Las Vegas on Thursday. He'll start the Athletics' series finale in Tampa Bay.

Harris is back up with the Athletics for the third time this season, but he'll be starting for the first time after his prior two appearances with Oakland came in long relief. The southpaw has been a full-time member of the rotation at Las Vegas for most of this season, logging a 7.67 ERA, 1.79 WHIP and 29:24 K:BB over 29.1 innings in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. Harris' numbers over parts of two seasons in the majors (6.78 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 64:31 K:BB in 71.2 innings) aren't much better, so he won't make for a dependable streaming option Thursday.

The Athletics placed Muller on the 15-day injured list Thursday with left shoulder tendinitis.

Muller looked to be a potential candidate to fill the opening in the Oakland rotation Thursday in Tampa Bay, but his shoulder injury will end up thwarting those plans. The Athletics called up lefty Hogan Harris from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move, and he could factor into the team's pitching plans for Thursday's series finale.

Armstrong will serve as the Rays' opening pitcher for Thursday's game against the Athletics.

He'll likely work no more than an inning or two before giving way to lefty Tyler Alexander, who is expected to operate as a bulk reliever. Armstrong has previously been used as an opener four times this season, striking out 11 over six innings while allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks.

Curtiss cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Albuquerque by the Rockies on Wednesday.

Curtiss had been designated for assignment after allowing two runs and recording just one out in his lone appearance with the Rockies. While he's no longer on the 40-man roster, it appears he will remain in the organization at Albuquerque as relief depth.

Atlanta recalled Herget from Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday.

He had just been optioned Wednesday but is back a day later to take the roster spot vacated by A.J. Minter (hip), who was placed on the 15-day injured list. Herget has tossed three scoreless frames with a 4:1 K:BB during his time with Atlanta this season.
