Marlins' Austin Kitchen: Back in big leagues

The Marlins recalled Kitchen from Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

The 27-year-old was sent to Jacksonville in early August and will rejoin the major-league bullpen for the final stretch of the month. Kitchen has made just one appearance in the big leagues and has a 2.96 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 31:13 K:BB over 48.2 innings across three minor-league levels this season.

  • Ethan Roberts RP | CHC

Cubs' Ethan Roberts: Nursing ankle injury

Roberts was lifted from Wednesday's appearance against the Pirates in the fourth inning due to right ankle soreness, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Consider the reliever day-to-day for the time being. Roberts was charged with two runs over 1.1 innings in the appearance before being pulled.

  • Reds' Casey Legumina: Sent to Triple-A

The Reds optioned Legumina to Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday.

Legumina's latest stint in the big leagues lasted just one day, and he yielded one run over a two-inning relief appearance. Evan Kravetz was called up from Triple-A to take Legumina's spot on the active roster and in the bullpen.

  • Nationals' Orlando Ribalta: Back with big club

The Nationals recalled Ribalta from Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

Washington placed Joan Adon (bicep) on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. Ribalta, 26, permitted three runs over two innings in two appearances with the big club earlier this month.

  • Joan Adon SP | WAS

Nationals' Joan Adon: Placed on IL with bicep issue

The Nationals placed Adon on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with a right biceps strain, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

Adon hasn't pitched in nearly a week, so it's unclear when he might have gotten injured. The right-hander has posted a 6.75 ERA and 6:4 K:BB over 10.2 frames for the Nationals this season. Orlando Ribalta was recalled from Triple-A Rochester to take Adon's spot in the bullpen.

  • Ethan Roberts RP | CHC

Cubs' Ethan Roberts: Exits appearance with injury

Roberts was removed from an appearance versus the Pirates on Wednesday in the fourth inning with an apparent injury, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Roberts retired the final batter in the bottom of the second inning and got through a scoreless third inning. However, he gave up a home run, hit a batter with a pitch and surrendered a single in the fourth before being visited by the trainer and exiting the field. It's unclear what injury he's dealing with, but the Cubs should provide an update soon. Roberts was charged with two runs over 1.1 frames before being lifted.

  • Padres' Jeremiah Estrada: Notches 12th hold

Estrada allowed one hit in a scoreless inning to notch a hold against the Cardinals on Tuesday.

Estrada handled the seventh inning and needed just eight pitches to retire the side despite giving up a one-out single. The right-hander hadn't picked up a hold since July 26 prior to Tuesday, and he's had a somewhat rough August with a 6.23 ERA and 1.85 WHIP over 10 appearances, though he's also posted a 17:5 K:BB across just 8.2 frames during that span.

  • Pirates' Daulton Jefferies: Closing in on rehab assignment

Jefferies (elbow) threw a live batting practice session earlier this week and is expected to begin a rehab assignment soon, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Jefferies has been sidelined since early July with right elbow inflammation but is finally ready to test things out in a game setting. Given the length of his absence, he figures to require a handful of rehab appearances before being considered for the Pirates' active roster.

  • John King RP | MIA

Cardinals' John King: Stuck with third loss

King (3-3) allowed two runs on three hits and a walk over one inning to take the loss Tuesday versus the Padres. He did not record a strikeout.

King got the last out of the sixth inning in relief of Miles Mikolas, but he then stumbled in the seventh. Since the All-Star break, King has a 5.11 ERA and 5:3 K:BB over 12.1 innings while taking two losses and one blown save. While he is regressing, this has still been his best major-league season -- the southpaw has a 3.10 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 32:8 K:BB across 39.1 innings while adding seven holds this year.

  • Pirates' Hunter Stratton: Undergoes knee surgery

Stratton is expected to be sidelined for 7-to-10 months after undergoing surgery Monday to repair a patella tendon rupture in his left knee, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.

Stratton suffered the injury over the weekend when he fell awkwardly into the wall while chasing down a wild pitch. Given the timeline provided, he will be a question mark for Opening Day next season.
