    There is no timetable for Kelly's return. He has not begun throwing off a mound.

    Treinen will be called up before Tuesday's game, returning to the Nationals after giving up one earned run in 6 2/3 innings with the major-league club in April. Ross Detwiler will be ready to fill a long-relief role if needed Tuesday.

    Pirates relief pitcher Mark Melancon was charged with a blown save on Monday against the Giants in extras.

    Melancon was unable to nail down the save in the ninth, surrendering a game-tying single with no outs. He permitted one run on three hits in one inning of work. His ERA went from 1.29 to 1.80 after Monday's outing. He owns a 10:1 K:BB ratio in 15 innings of relief.

    Shelby Miller breezes past Atlanta for win No. 4

    Cardinals starting pitcher Shelby Miller turned in a decent outing Monday, collecting his third win of the season in a 4-3 win over Atlanta. The right-hander yielded two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five in five innings of work.

    Miller (4-2) tossed 86 pitches, 51 for strikes. His ERA now stands at 3.20. He'll make his next start Sunday at Pittsburgh. He is 1-1 with a 4.09 ERA in two starts against the Pirates this season.

    Joe Kelly progressing slowly from hamstring injury

    Cardinals pitcher Joe Kelly has been making slow progress from a hamstring injury, MLB.com reports. He returned to St. Louis on Monday to continue his recovery, but he is not expected to throw off mound "for a while," according to the report.

    Kelly will continue to play catch until he is cleared for mound work. He remains without a timetable.

  • Aroldis Chapman moving rehab assignment to Triple-A

    Reds closer Aroldis Chapman (head) will move his rehab assignment from Class A Dayton to Triple-A Louisville Tuesday, per MLB.com. He will start and pitch one inning.

    Chapman tossed two scoreless innings for Dayton, allowing one walk and striking out three.

    Barring any setbacks, Reds closer Aroldis Chapman (head) is expected to be activated in time for Friday's series opener against the Rockies, manager Bryan Price told MLB.com on Sunday.

    Chapman began his rehab assignment on Thursday and is scheduled to make two more rehab appearances this week before he is activated.

    "He'll pitch a couple times for Louisville and then meet us back here when we come off the road," Price said.

    Pirates pitcher Mark Melancon recorded his first save of the season Saturday, giving up one hit and striking out one in a scoreless ninth inning in his team's 8-6 win over the Blue Jays.

    Melancon is quite capable of serving as an above-average closer whenever needed, and he should continue to do so for the next few weeks with Jason Grilli on the shelf. Melancon owns a 1.29 ERA and 10:1 K:BB ratio in 14 innings.

    Pirates reliever Mark Melancon (1-1) tossed a perfect ninth inning and was awarded his first win of the season Friday night at home against the Blue Jays. Pedro Alvarez and Starling Marte homered in the ninth to give Pittsburgh the win. Melancon owns a 1.38 ERA over 13 innings pitched.
