Giants pitcher George Kontos earned a win Tuesday, striking out one in 1 2/3 scoreless innings in his team's 12-7 victory over the Rockies.

Kontos (4-0) retired all five of the batters he faced Tuesday to pick up his first win since rejoining the Giants in late August. He owns a 2.84 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 23:8 K:BB ratio in 25 1/3 innings.

Mets pitchers Josh Edgin and Daisuke Matsuzaka received cortisone injections in their ailing elbows Tuesday, the team announced.

Both players will rest for the next few days before returning to the team for a weekend series in Cincinnati, though it is not clear if they are expected to be available to pitch at that point. 

Mets pitcher Josh Edgin will have his elbow examined by team doctors Tuesday after a platelet-rich plasma injection failed to relieve the bone spurs and tendinitis in the elbow, the New York Daily News reports.

"We’ll have to see with the doctors," Mets manager Terry Collins said. "The shot really didn’t help him. When the shot didn’t help very much, he was going to start taking his medicine, hold off until the doctors take a look at it."

Edgin has been sidelined since Aug. 23 with the injury. He owns a 1.40 ERA and 25:6 K:BB ratio in 25 2/3 innings.

Brewers pitcher Jimmy Nelson posted a quality start in a losing effort Monday afternoon against the Cubs at Wrigley Field, dropping to 2-6 on the year. The right-hander permitted three runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out four over six innings of a 4-2 victory.

Over his last four starts covering 22 2/3 innings, Nelson has allowed 11 earned runs. He owns a 4.14 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP over 10 starts (58 2/3 innings). His next start will come Sunday at home against St. Louis.

The Phillies announced their September callups on Monday.

Before announcing the moves, Philadelphia transferred pitcher Cliff Lee to the 60-day DL to create room on the 40-man roster. The team recalled infielder Cesar Hernandez, catcher Cameron Rupp and right-handed pitchers Luis Garcia and Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Additionally, the team purchased the contracts of infielder Maikel Franco and outfielder Tony Gwynn Jr.. Right-hander Mike Adams was also activated off the disabled list.

The Dodgers recalled outfielder Joc Pederson, second baseman Alex Guererro, catcher Tim Federowicz and pitcher Yimi Garcia Monday with rosters expanding in September.

Pederson closed out his first season with Triple-A Albuquerque by hitting .303/.435/.582 with 33 home runs, 78 RBI and 30 stolen bases in 445 at-bats.

In addition, the team activated pitcher Chris Perez from the disabled list. Perez has been out since Aug. 3 while nursing an ankle injury.

The Nationals announced their September callups on Monday. Before making any moves, the team activated Steven Souza from the 15-day disabled list. Washington called up the following players: Sandy Leon, Blake Treinen, Xavier Cedeno, Tyler Moore and Aaron Barrett.

Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels and three relievers tossed a combined no-hitter Monday afternoon against the Braves in Atlanta. It's the first combined no-hitter in franchise history.

Hamels was denied a no-hitter due to a high pitch count. He was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning with a no-hitter intact. He issued five walks and ran his pitch count to 108 before his day was over. He struck out seven over six hitless innings and picked up the win.

Jake Diekman struck out two in a perfect seventh inning and Ken Giles struck out the side in the eighth. Jonathan Papelbon needed nine pitches to retire Jose Constanza, Chris Johnson and Phil Gosselin to secure a 7-0 no-hit victory and the save.

The Reds announced their September callups on Monday. Before making the moves, the team transferred Homer Bailey to the 60-day disabled list, ending his season. The team called up Carlos Contreras, Daniel Corcino, Jake Elmore, David Holmberg, J.J. Hoover, Tucker Barnhart, Donald Lutz, Yorman Rodriguez, Jason Bourgeois and Ryan Dennick.

The Diamondbacks activated outfielder Cody Ross from the 15-day disabled list and pitcher Daniel Hudson from the 60-day disabled list prior to Monday's game against San Diego, the team announced.
