Mazzaro was designated for assignment by the Giants on Friday.

The Rockies kept the hit parade going against Mazzaro after Matt Cain left Thursday's game, racking up six base knocks and seven earned runs off the right-hander. Mazzaro managed to record just one out. He will now be subjected to waivers, but Mazzaro may ultimately accept an outright assignment back to Triple-A.

Smith (knee) still does not think he will require surgery, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

The team allowed Smith to take the rest and rehab route with the hope of getting him back sooner, and the lefty seems confident it was the right call. He's still without any sort of set timetable and one likely won't take shape until he is cleared to get back onto the mound for bullpen sessions. Smith has been throwing on flat ground in recent weeks.

Chafin came on in relief Wednesday against Miami and struck out the only batter he faced, J.T. Realmuto.

This was a bounce-back appearance for Chafin, who walked two batters in Tuesday's appearance and suffered the loss. The lefty has primarily been used as a middle reliever this season and proven effective in short-inning situations. Chafin is the only left-hander seeing consistent usage out of the Arizona bullpen and he should continue getting opportunities despite a 4.22 ERA.

De Leon returned from an ankle injury to record five scoreless two-hit innings Tuesday for Triple-A Oklahoma City.

De Leon walked just one while striking out nine. It could actually be a blessing that he missed the season's first month, as that could serve to keep him fresh down the stretch. De Leon is a strong 2016 callup candidate.

Hernandez bent his left knee awkwardly making the final out in the eight inning Thursday, but said after the game he felt fine, Jim Salisbury of CSN Philadelphia reports.

Hernandez said he hyperextended his knee a little on the play. He worked a scoreless inning Thursday, lowering his ERA to 3.14 with a 23:5 K:BB in 14.1 innings.

Rusin was tagged for seven runs on a whopping 13 hits and two walks in just 4.1 innings Thursday against the Giants. He received no decision in an eventual 17-7 win.

Amazingly, Rusin's terrible start was actually outdone by the Giants' Matt Cain, who finished with eight runs on his ledger. The 29-year-old Rusin had actually gotten off to a strong start to the season, posting a 1.69 ERA and 13 strikeouts through his first 16 innings, but a course correction seemed inevitable, and it didn't even take a return to Coors Field to achieve it. Although the southpaw shut out the Diamondbacks over five innings in his last start, it's not advisable for fantasy players to roll him out when Arizona visits Rusin at Coors on Tuesday.

Rodney picked up his seventh save Thursday, getting the last two outs against the Mets to preserve a 5-3 win.

It looked like Rodney's services wouldn't be needed with the Padres carrying a 5-0 lead into the ninth, but a pair of homers got manager Andy Green to turn to his closer. It took Rodney just four pitches to generate two easy fly balls, ending the game without drama and marking his 11th consecutive appearance without an earned run to start 2016.

Johnson was placed on the disabled list with a lat strain, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports.

A mere two weeks after being activated off the disabled list for an arm injury, Johnson will head back to the DL. It's unclear how much time the right-hander will miss, but things should become clearer once he returns to baseball-related activities.

Kontos (elbow) is scheduled to pitch with Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday, Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area reports.

It was unclear whether Kontos would head straight to the Giants or pitch in a rehab assignment, but it appears that the Giants have decided to go with the latter. The right-hander said that his elbow feels great, and although the Giants want him to make another rehab appearance afterward, he seems to be very close to returning to the San Francisco bullpen.

Edgin (elbow) could remain in the minors when his rehab assignment concludes Sunday, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports.

Unfortunately for Edgin, manager Terry Collins stated that the left-hander won'tt return to New York until he has pitched on consecutive days, which he hasn't been able to do yet. Collins also said that there's not really a vacancy in the Mets bullpen, meaning that Edgin could be locked a bit longer in Triple-A until he's absolutely needed. Between all of this and the fact that his fastball is only sitting around 88 miles per hour, it'll be tough for Edgin to crack the Mets bullpen in the near future.
