Lamet didn't receive a decision despite firing six innings of one-run ball Wednesday. He gave up five hits and two walks while striking out five in an extra-inning loss to the Twins.

Lamet turned in his fourth consecutive quality start, but the Padres' anemic offense has left him with an 0-2 record over that span. Ignoring the lack of wins, the flamethrowing rookie has clearly turned a corner in the second half, posting a 3.00 ERA with a 10.4 K/9 in 11 starts since the All-Star break. Walks continue to be an issue for the 24-year-old (4.1 BB/9), even during his recent hot streak, an issue he will have to work on before fully gaining fantasy owners' trust. Lamet will look for redemption in his next start at home against the Diamondbacks after he was torched for seven runs in their last meeting back in June.

Moore (5-14) lasted just 4.1 innings in a losing effort Wednesday, giving up four runs on six hits with three walks and five strikeouts in a 4-1 loss to the Dodgers.

Moore settled down after a two-run first inning, but a high pitch count and a fifth-inning home run courtesy of Cody Bellinger prevented the southpaw from finishing five frames for the seventh time this season. The 28-year-old's 5.39 ERA in 29 starts is the worst mark amongst all qualified National League pitchers. Moore's season has been a complete disaster, making it hard to trust him in his next start against the Rockies next Wednesday, even though it takes place in the friendly confines of AT&T Park.

Johnson was designated for assignment by the Cubs on Wednesday.

Johnson was dropped from the 40-man roster to open a spot for the contract selection of Thursday's starter, Jen-Ho Tseng. He was never able to get things going at Triple-A Iowa, compiling a 5.29 ERA and 1.55 WHIP in 117.1 innings there over the past two seasons.

Barraclough gave up a run on two hits and a walk while striking out two in the ninth inning Tuesday to blow his fourth save of the season in an extra-inning loss to the Phillies.

Were it not for a great throw from Giancarlo Stanton in right field that gunned down Cesar Hernandez at the plate, Barraclough would have taken the loss as well. While it's encouraging that the right-hander got the save chance at all, he's now been scored upon in three of his last four appearances, and with Brad Ziegler (back) potentially returning to action soon, Barraclough's opportunity to claim at least a share of the Marlins' closer role for the final weeks of the season may have slipped away.

Peters didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's extra-inning loss to the Phillies, allowing two runs on six hits and four walks over six innings while striking out four.

He's been impressive through his first three big-league starts this September, posting a 2.50 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 18:9 K:BB in 18 innings. The 25-year-old Peters has positioned himself to compete for a regular spot in the Marlins' rotation next spring, but first he'll face the Brewers at home Sunday.

Jansen collected his 37th save Tuesday after striking out three Giants over 1.1 innings of scoreless work, though he allowed three hits.

This marks just the third time in 60 appearances that Jansen has allowed the opposition to get three hits off him, and he's now cleared 100 strikeouts in just 62.2 innings. Jansen gave up a rare run in his last appearance, and the way he's been going this year, it wouldn't be particularly surprising to see that be the last one he allows in 2017.

Rusin got the final two outs in Tuesday's 4-2 win over Arizona for his second save.

The rest of Colorado's bullpen stepped up with closer Greg Holland unavailable after working in three games over the previous four days. Scott Oberg allowed a leadoff double to open the ninth inning after pitching a perfect eighth, but managed to get one more out before being pulled in favor of Rusin. Rusin then induced a Daniel Descalso fly out and a Ketel Marte ground out to seal the deal.

Gsellman (6-7) walked five batters and allowed five hits en route to four runs over four innings in Tuesday's loss to the Cubs. He struck out four.

For every promising outing Gsellman manages to put together -- like his most recent start before this one, a solid win against the Phillies -- there's always a game like this one that brings expectations right back down. Then again, there's something to be said for a pitcher being as predictable as Gsellman; broadly speaking, he pitches well against bad offenses and poorly against good ones. He comes with risk, but the righty is streamable when the matchup leans his way.

Stephenson (4-5) was saddled with the loss Tuesday in St. Louis after allowing six runs (four earned) on five hits with three walks and five strikeouts over three innings.

A lack of command was Stephenson's downfall as usual, with this effort raising his BB/9 to an astronomical 6.1. The constant free passes have limited the 24-year-old righty's ability to work deep into games, as he's lasted just 41 innings in his eight starts this season. Even with a favorable home matchup against the Pirates on tap, Stephenson makes for a risky play in his next start Sunday.

Suter allowed two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out three over three innings in Tuesday's win over the Pirates. He did not factor into the decision.

With Jimmy Nelson (shoulder) out for the rest of the season, Suter was called upon to eat up a few innings Tuesday in what was a scheduled bullpen game. The southpaw wasn't overly effective in his three innings of work, but he did just enough to help his team establish an early lead, as the Brewers were able to put up a four-spot against Gerrit Cole in the third inning to take the 28-year-old out of the loss column. Suter is tentatively scheduled to make his next start Sunday against the Marlins, though that could change, as manager Craig Counsell has been mixing things up in the rotation recently.
