  • JoJo Romero RP | MIL

Phillies' JoJo Romero: Struggling at Doulble-A

Romero is having a rough start to the year for Double-A Reading, The Athletic Philadelphia reports.

The 21-year-old has a 6.68 ERA through six starts, walking 10.1 percent of batters while striking out just 16.2 percent. A fourth-round pick in the 2016 draft, Romero has never struggled before in professional ball, posting ERAs of 2.56 or lower for short-season Williamsport, Low-A Lakewood and High-A Clearwater over the past two years. Heading into the season, the lefty was projected as a possible future mid-rotation starter, but he'll have to turn things around for Reading to remain on that path.

  • Troy Scribner RP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Troy Scribner: Could make spot start Saturday

Scribner is a candidate to receive a promotion from Triple-A Reno to start Saturday for the Diamondbacks against the Nationals, John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM reports.

Earlier this week, Arizona assistant general manager Jared Porter mentioned Scribner, Taylor Clarke, Jake Buchanan and Albert Suarez as the top candidates to assume the rotation spot vacated by Robbie Ray (oblique), who will miss his second straight turn Saturday. Since Porter's announcement, Buchanan and Suarez have both made appearances with Reno, likely taking a promotion for either off the table. While both Scribner (5.68 ERA, 1.31 WHIP in 25.1 innings) and Clarke (5.91 ERA, 1.63 WHIP in 35 innings) have been similarly underwhelming at Reno, Clarke isn't a member of the 40-man roster, seemingly conferring Scribner the edge for a potential callup. Expect Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo to name a new fifth starter at some point Friday.

  • Hansel Robles RP | LAD

Mets' Hansel Robles: Headed to disabled list

Robles (knee) will land on the disabled list prior to Friday's game against the Phillies, Matt Ehalt of The Record reports.

There hasn't been an announcement regarding the results of his MRI from Wednesday, but Robles will officially miss at least another week of action after sustaining the injury during Tuesday's game against Cincinnati. Expect a definitive timetable once the Mets release information on the right-hander's status and the exact nature of his injury.

  • Reds' Raisel Iglesias: Picks up fifth save against Dodgers

Iglesias earned the save against the Dodgers on Thursday, striking out three without allowing a baserunner over 1.1 innings in the Reds' 4-1 victory.

It was just the fifth save of the year for the Cincinnati closer, but that's been due to a lack of opportunities as much as anything, as he has a 1.50 ERA and a 0.89 WHIP in his 18 innings pitched. Playing on a last-place Reds team will probably continue to inhibit his upside in that way even if he does continue to post solid ratios.

  • Luis Garcia RP | MIN

Phillies' Luis Garcia: Earns seventh hold

Garcia pitched a scoreless eighth inning Thursday against the Giants, not allowing a single baserunner and earning his seventh hold of the season.

Garcia entered the game with a three-run lead and didn't have any trouble keeping it intact. He faced the top three hitters in the Giants' order, getting one popout and a pair of groundouts. His ERA now sits at 3.00 through 15 innings. So far this season, Garcia has been used in the second-highest leverage situations in the Phillies' bullpen after closer Hector Neris, suggesting that he could be the reliever to own if Neris gets injured. That situation could change with the return of Pat Neshek, but that won't happen for at least another month, as Neshek recently suffered a forearm strain while rehabbing his shoulder injury.

  • Brent Suter RP | ATL

Brewers' Brent Suter: Scheduled to start Sunday

Suter is penciled in to start Sunday against the Rockies, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

With Wade Miley (oblique) landing on the disabled list and Zach Davies (shoulder) suffering a slight setback in his recovery, Suter will be called upon to rejoin the Brewers' rotation for Sunday's series finale against the Rockies. The 28-year-old owns a 4.86 ERA across 37 innings this season, including six starts and a pair of relief appearances. It's unclear if Suter will head back to a relief role or stick in the rotation following Sunday's start, but with Miley expected to be out for an extended period of time, the southpaw could stick in the rotation as his replacement if he pitches well initially.

  • Ty Blach RP | CHC

Giants' Ty Blach: Takes loss in short outing Thursday

Blach (3-4) was hit with the loss after allowing five runs on seven hits and a walk across 4.1 innings Thursday against the Phillies. He struck out three.

This was a disappointing follow-up start from Blach, who held the Braves to one earned run over 7.2 innings in his previous outing. He was sharp through the first three innings Thursday before ultimately coming undone in the fourth, serving up a three-run homer to Carlos Santana to cap what was a four-run inning for the Phillies. While the southpaw still owns a serviceable 4.20 ERA through nine starts this season, his 25:16 K:BB across 49.1 innings leaves a lot to be desired from a fantasy perspective. He'll look to get back on track in his next start, which will come at home against the Reds.

  • Hector Neris RP | HOU

Phillies' Hector Neris: Picks up eighth save

Neris converted his eighth save of the season Thursday against the Giants, striking out two in a scoreless ninth inning.

Neris needed just 13 pitches -- 10 of which were strikes -- to sit the Giants down in order. He's now kept the bases clean in two straight appearances after blowing a save against the Nationals over the weekend. The 28-year-old now owns a 3.68 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 19:9 K:BB across 14.2 innings this season.

  • Jorge Lopez RP | WAS

Brewers' Jorge Lopez: Sent back to minors

Lopez was optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs on Thursday.

Lopez will head back to the minors in order to open up a roster spot for Boone Logan (triceps), who was activated from the disabled list in a corresponding move. The 25-year-old allowed three runs across four innings (two appearances) during his most recent stint with the big club, bringing his ERA up to 5.14 through seven innings on the season. Lopez will continue to bounce between the majors and minors as bullpen help is needed.

  • Mike Mayers RP | TOR

Cardinals' Mike Mayers: Recalled from Memphis

Mayers was called up from Triple-A Memphis prior to Thursday's game against San Diego.

In a corresponding move, the Cardinals placed Carlos Martinez on the 10-day disabled list due to a right lat strain. Mayers has shuffled back and forth from the big leagues to Memphis over the opening months of this season, posting 1.86 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in 9.2 innings with St. Louis. He will serve out of a middle-relief role for manager Mike Matheny.
