  • Marlins' Trevor Richards: Shaky in return to majors

Richards (0-3) allowed three runs in five innings, striking out four and yielding seven hits in a 4-1 loss to St. Louis on Thursday.

Richards was called up to start for the first time since April but didn't do much to impress. He gave up a two-run homer off the bat of Jose Martinez in the first inning and his team didn't do him any favors on the offensive side. The rookie right-hander owns a 5.02 ERA in 28.2 innings with 14 walks and 28 strikeouts. If he stays on the MLB roster, Richards should take the ball next week against the Giants.

  • Dennis Santana RP | ARI

Dodgers' Dennis Santana: Set for MRI on Friday

Santana (lat) will undergo an MRI on Friday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Santana was scratched from his scheduled start against the Pirates on Thursday due to right lat soreness, and the Dodgers will send him for some tests in the coming days to determine the severity of the issue. Lat issues often tend to linger, so the team figures to proceed cautiously with the 22-year-old prospect. Santana allowed five runs across 3.2 innings in his lone big-league appearance prior to suffering the injury.

Dodgers' Dennis Santana: Dealing with lat soreness

Santana was scratched from Thursday's start against the Pirates due to right lat soreness, Eric Stephen of TrueBlueLA.com reports.

Santana was set to make his first career big-league start before the injury cropped up and forced Daniel Hudson to start in his place. The severity of the injury remains unclear at this point, as does a possible timetable for his return. With the Dodgers off the schedule twice next week, the team could move forward with a four-man rotation until June 19 if it chooses.

  • Daniel Hudson RP | LAD

Dodgers' Daniel Hudson: Will start against Pirates on Thursday

Hudson will take the mound for Thursday's game against the Pirates, Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register reports.

Hudson is unlikely to make it into the middle innings of Thursday's game after appearing out of the bullpen during each of the past two days, but he was thrust into the starting spot after Dennis Santana was scratched just minutes before the first pitch. Through 17 appearances this year, Hudson has compiled a 5.06 ERA and 1.59 WHIP with a 17:11 K:BB in 21.1 innings of relief.

Dodgers' Dennis Santana: Scratched from Thursday's start

Santana was scratched from Thursday's scheduled start against Pittsburgh, Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register reports.

Santana was set to make his first start at the big-league level. At this point in time, there has been no reason given as to why he was removed, but expect an update in the coming hours. Daniel Hudson will start in his place.

  • Caleb Ferguson RP | STL

Dodgers' Caleb Ferguson: Returns to minors

Ferguson was optioned back to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday, Andy McCullough of The Los Angeles Times reports.

Ferguson allowed four runs off two hits and three walks while striking out three over 1.2 innings during the first major-league start of his career. The left-hander only recorded 32 strikes out of his 57 pitches. He'll return to the minor leagues in order to continue receiving consistent time on the mound.

  • Edward Paredes RP | PHI

Dodgers' Edward Paredes: Called up from Oklahoma City

Paredes was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday, Andy McCullough of The Los Angeles Times reports.

Paredes has only appeared in one big-league game this season but has fared well at the Triple-A level, posting a 0.60 ERA with a 21:12 K:BB in 15 innings of relief. Prior to his appearance against Sacramento on Tuesday, the left-hander hadn't given up a run all year. Expect to see him utilized out of low-leverage situations while he's with the Dodgers.

  • Matt Strahm RP | KC

Padres' Matt Strahm: Starts bullpen game

Strahm started Wednesday's contest, going 2.1 innings with a run surrendered and two strikeouts in a 3-1 victory over the Braves.

This was technically Strahm's longest outing of the season, but he wasn't allowed to go long enough into the contest to earn a win. The 26-year-old has experience as a starter in the minors, but the Padres continue to handle him with kid gloves coming off of a knee injury last season. Wednesday's bullpen game came in Joey Lucchesi's (hip) spot in the rotation, and a similar situation figures to unfold Tuesday with the injured starter expected to miss at least one more start.

  • Caleb Ferguson RP | STL

Dodgers' Caleb Ferguson: Early exit in Wednesday's no-decision

Ferguson didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 11-9 loss to the Pirates, allowing four runs on two hits and a three walks over 1.2 innings while striking out three.

The left-hander was not sharp in his big-league debut, throwing 32 of 57 pitches for strikes and also hitting two of the 11 batters he faced. Expect Ferguson to be returned to Triple-A Oklahoma City, and for the Dodgers to consider other options for their fifth starter spot if Kenta Maeda (hip) isn't quite ready to rejoin the roster the next time through.

  • Brad Hand RP | ATL

Padres' Brad Hand: Records 18th save

Hand allowed one hit and struck out four across two innings to record the save Wednesday against the Braves.

Hand entered the game in the eighth inning and immediately allowed a leadoff double to Ozzie Albies before proceeding to strikeout the next three batters he faced. It was his first two-inning save of the season, though he has worked more than one inning on several occasions. He now has 18 saves, good for second in the National League.
