Holmes was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with left quadriceps discomfort, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.

Holmes has an 8.18 ERA, 2.18 WHIP and 14:13 K:BB in 11 innings since the All-Star break. Parker Markel will take his place in the bullpen.

Beede didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Cubs, giving up three runs on six hits -- including three home runs -- and three walks over four innings while striking out four.

Nic Castellanos and Anthony Rizzo both took him deep in the first inning, and then Rizzo did it again the next time he faced Beede in the third. That's nothing new for the right-hander, who's served up 20 homers in only 86.2 innings this year. He now has a 5.82 ERA and 1.63 WHIP, and it's not clear if the Giants will give him another chance in the rotation to turn things around.

Young (5-3) picked up the win against the Rockies on Tuesday, giving up three earned runs on seven hits over six innings, striking out four and walking one as the Diamondbacks prevailed 8-7.

The 25-year-old had given up nine earned runs over 8.1 innings in his previous two outings, but he bounced back with his fourth quality start of the season en route to his fifth win in this contest. Young has performed respectably in his 49 big-league innings this season, posting a 4.04 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 37:16 K:BB. He's scheduled to take the mound next on the road against the Giants on Monday.

Patino left Tuesday's start after developing a blister, Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

The 19-year-old breezed through three innings before the early departure, throwing 28 of 35 pitches for strikes and giving up two hits and no walks while striking out three batters. Patino was making his second Double-A start after appearing in 20 games (19 starts) with High-A Lake Elsinore.

Neris allowed one hit with no walks or strikeouts in a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save Tuesday against the Red Sox.

Neris was called upon to protect a one-run lead in the ninth inning and answered with his 22nd save of the season. He was bailed out on a baserunning blunder by Xander Bogaerts, who was thrown out at third one batter after hitting a leadoff double. Regardless of how he got there, Neris has now turned in 12 consecutive scoreless innings. That's aided him in producing a strong 3.25 ERA and 0.99 WHIP with 71 strikeouts across 52.2 innings for the season.

Iglesias didn't allow a baserunner and struck out two in the ninth inning to earn the save Tuesday against the Padres.

Iglesias was called upon to protect a one-run lead in the final frame and he came through with little trouble to earn his 25th save. He's now held the opposition scoreless in nine of his last 10 appearances after going through a rough patch in late July, during which he allowed at least one earned run in three consecutive outings. Things have taken a positive turn and Iglesias has now recorded eight of the team's last 10 saves and is being used predominantly as a traditional closer.

Strahm will start Wednesday's series finale at Cincinnati, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Strahm began the season in the starting rotation but has been working in relief since the All-Star break, so he's likely to have a limited workload Wednesday in what amounts to a bullpen day for the Padres. The 27-year-old has a 4.24 ERA and 1.12 WHIP in 14 outings since transitioning to the bullpen, though five of the eight runs he's allowed came during one outing.

Hernandez exited Tuesday's start in Atlanta with a right middle finger blister, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Hernandez pitched well prior to being removed due to the blister, allowing one run on three hits with five strikeouts and one walk through four innings. The 24-year-old's availability for his next start -- Sunday against the Phillies -- should come into focus over the next couple days.

Guerra was moved up to Double-A Amarillo on Tuesday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Guerra was converted to pitching at the start of the season and has flashed enough potential on the mound to warrant the promotion. In 17 relief outings with High-A Lake Elsinore this season, he compiled a 3.71 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 23:5 K:BB while limiting batters to a .213 average in 17 innings.

Clarke will move back to the bullpen following his spot start last weekend, Jody Jackson of FOX Sports Arizona reports.

Clarke didn't fare well in his start against the Giants, surrendering five runs (three earned) on five hits and a walk over 1.2 innings of work, so he'll transition to a long-relief role. The Diamondbacks have yet to announce who will take Robbie Ray's (back) next turn in the starting rotation, though perhaps another starter won't be needed if Ray gets clearance to return next week.
