Webb (elbow) has been shut down from throwing, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

Webb was placed on the 60-day injured list Monday due to a right elbow impingement, so this news is unsurprising, considering his season is likely over. He'll need to be re-evaluated to determine the next step in his recovery process.

Manager Bud Black said Monday that he's not ready to anoint a new closer, but he made it clear that Estevez and Jairo Diaz will be given chances to close out games over the remainder of the season, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports.

Wade Davis squandered a lead in the ninth inning Sunday after Scott Oberg (blood clot) was placed on the IL earlier that day, and it doesn't sound like Black will be turning back to Davis as his closer. Both Estevez and Diaz throw heat, averaging over 97 mph on their fastballs. Estevez's season-long ERA is significantly better than Diaz's, but the estimators are pretty similar and Diaz has been on an excellent run of late (2.16 ERA, 1.08 WHIP in his last seven outings), so it's not clear who will have the edge between the two.

Hudson (12-6) issued four walks over 6.2 scoreless frames Monday, striking out seven and earning the win over Milwaukee.

Hudson exited the game after throwing 111 pitches (64 strikes) despite working on a no-hitter. With two outs in the eighth, Giovanny Gallegos allowed a double to Yasmani Grandal, ending the team's no-hit bid. Hudson's ERA has dropped from 4.01 to 3.63 in his last two outings; he's combined for 12.2 scoreless innings during that span. Still, his 104:63 K:BB is a bit of a long-term concern. The 6-foot-5 rookie will look for his third straight win Saturday as St. Louis will host the Rockies.

Yates gave up one run on three hits and no walks while striking out one to record his 36th save in a 3-2 win over the Reds on Monday.

Yates made it interesting, allowing four baserunners before working his way out of trouble to pick up his 36th save. Yates recorded his third save in three days. The 32-year-old has a 1.24 ERA and 82 strikeouts through 51 innings this season.

Webb was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett and placed on the 60-day injured list with a right elbow impingement.

The move frees up a 40-man roster spot for Billy Hamilton, who was claimed off waivers. Webb is likely done for the season after logging a 1.39 ERA in 36 MLB appearances and a 6.97 ERA in 10 appearances at Triple-A.

Wilson was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday.

He did not pitch during this latest stint in the majors. Wilson has been excellent to close the season at Triple-A (one earned run and 25 strikeouts over his last 27 innings), but that success has not translated this season in the majors. He will provide bullpen depth when rosters expand in September.

Rodriguez is slated to make his next start Wednesday against the Cubs, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Rodriguez earned a second turn through the rotation after keeping the Diamondbacks off the board across seven three-hit frames last week, when he was summoned from Triple-A Sacramento for a spot start. The right-hander may need another respectable showing versus Chicago to build a case for sticking in the San Francisco rotation for the rest of the season. The Giants are expected to return Shaun Anderson (finger) and Johnny Cueto (elbow) from the injured list within the next couple of weeks, putting two of Rodriguez, Tyler Beede and Logan Webb at risk of losing their starting jobs.

Avila (elbow) was placed on Double-A Amarillo's 7-day injured list Sunday, Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

In his first rehab appearance with Amarillo on Thursday, Avila completed 1.1 innings before going to the ground and clutching his right elbow in pain after throwing a pitch. Avila has previously spent time on the IL this season with an elbow strain, though the Padres have yet to announce an update on his latest injury. The move to the injured list is retroactive to Aug. 16.

The Diamondbacks purchased Tonkin's contract Monday from the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. He'll be assigned to Triple-A Reno.

Tonkin had previously spent time in the Rangers and Brewers organizations in 2019 before signing with Long Island in mid-June. The 29-year-old apparently made a positive impression on the Diamondbacks during his stint in independent ball and will be given a look in the Pacific Coast League as the season winds down. Tonkin has previously made 141 relief appearances at the big-league level, with his last MLB action coming in 2017.

Reyes (pectoral) remains without a timetable to resume a throwing program, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. "He's been evaluated a couple of different times, he's had a couple of different opinions," manager Mike Shildt said Sunday. "No one has seen anything different, necessarily. But Alex is not in a throwing mode. He's in a rehabilitation mode to get back to throwing."

Reyes last picked up a baseball Aug. 5, when he felt pain in his recovering pectoral area during a bullpen session. He was subsequently evaluated by the team's medical staff and encouraged to seek a second opinion after the exam failed to reveal any new injury. While there haven't been any granular details on the status of that follow-up evaluation, Shildt did confirm Sunday that Reyes is currently rehabbing at a team facility that is neither in Memphis or at Cardinals camp in Jupiter, Florida.
