Melancon picked up the save by striking out one in a scoreless 14th inning Friday against the Mets.

Melancon retired the three batters he faced without issue to end the marathon contest. He's now registered a save in four of his last six appearances, and he continues to make a strong case to remain Atlanta's closer moving forward.

Lambert (2-4) was charged with the loss against the Cardinals on Friday after surrendering four runs (two earned) on six hits and four walks across 4.1 innings.

Command just wasn't there for the 22-year-old rookie, who did not record any strikeouts for the first time this season. After not allowing any home runs over his last 11 innings, Lambert gave up a two-run shot to Marcell Ozuna in the first frame. The right-hander, who made his major-league debut in early June, has not earned a win since a June 11th contest against the Cubs. Across 14 starts, Lambert owns a dire 6.40 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 44:26 K:BB. He'll have his hands full when he faces the Red Sox on Wednesday.

Suter (elbow) will be considered by the Brewers for a September callup, Rich Rovito of AP Sports reports.

Suter is pitching on a rehab assignment for Triple-A San Antonio, and although he was expected to miss the entire 2019 season while rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, manager Craig Counsell revealed that the southpaw will at least be considered come September. If he activated, he'll likely pitch out of the bullpen.

Nelson (elbow) will be considered for a September call-up, Rich Rovito of AP Sports reports.

Nelson is eligible to be activated from the 60-day injured list Aug. 27, though it's unclear if he'll return to the big leagues at all this season. If he is promoted, it'll likely happen in September when rosters expand.

Stanek may only get another week in the closer's role with the news that Jose Urena (back) might take over in the ninth inning when he is activated in September, Craig Mish of FNTSY Sports Radio reports.

The Marlins are saying they are not looking past this season as far as the closer role is concerned, but the organization thought that it would be good for Urena to return in a role where he would know when he would be used rather than slotting into a crowded rotation. The right-hander is under team control through the 2021 season while Stanek is under team control through 2023. Stanek had a reasonable chance of establishing himself as the Marlins' closer after getting traded from Tampa Bay at the deadline, but he has given up seven earned runs (three home runs) in 6.1 innings with his new team and may have to wait until next spring for his next crack at the job.

Hernandez (blister) is still expected to make his scheduled start Sunday against the Phillies, Andre Fernandez of The Athletic reports.

He exited Tuesday's start with a blister on his right middle finger, but it sounds like he has responded well these last couple days and won't need his turn skipped. Hernandez has a 3.94 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 19 strikeouts in 16 innings over his last three starts.

Suarez was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Suarez rejoined the Giants at the end of July and posted a 4.76 ERA, 1.76 WHIP and 8:4 K:BB over 11.1 innings. The 26-year-old will return to Sacramento, where he has a 5.46 ERA and 1.60 WHIP in 15 starts.

Rumbelow signed a minor-league deal with the Mets.

Rumbelow was released by the Mariners in mid-June and subsequently moved to independent ball, only to make his way to the minors with the Mets. The 27-year-old had a 8.17 ERA, 2.07 WHIP and 22:15 K:BB over 25.1 innings at Triple-A Tacoma prior to his release.

Sewald struck out two in a perfect eighth inning Thursday to record his first save of the season in a win over Cleveland.

The ninth inning never happened due to rain, giving Sewald his third career save and allowing manager Mickey Callaway to avoid having to decide whether to use Edwin Diaz or Seth Lugo as his closer for the evening. Sewald has apparently worked his way into the Mets' setup crew with a 5:0 K:BB in two scoreless innings since rejoining the bullpen.

Garcia allowed one hit and struck out one over 1.1 scoreless innings Sunday against the Rockies.

Garcia has now delivered four scoreless frames over his last six appearances, fanning four over that stretch. He was given a save opportunity July 19 against the Dodgers, but he failed to slam the door and hasn't seen a save chance since, despite an impressive 2.63 ERA and 1.06 WHIP with 29 punchouts across 37.2 innings this season. Ryne Stanek appears to have a hold on the closer's job for Miami at the moment, though he's struggled of late.
