  • Cubs' Craig Kimbrel: Nails down fifth save

Kimbrel worked around two hits to pitch a scoreless ninth inning and record the save in Saturday's win over the Reds. He struck out two.

Kimbrel had a rocky start to the bottom of the ninth, allowing consecutive singles to put runners on the corners, but the veteran reliever then struck out two hitters before ending the game on a Nick Castellanos groundout. Kimbrel has been excellent so far, as he now has five saves in as many chances to go along with a perfect 0.00 ERA. He should have a fairly firm grip on the closer role moving forward.

  • Hector Neris RP | HOU

Phillies' Hector Neris: Takes loss Saturday

Neris (1-3) took the loss Saturday as the Phillies fell 5-4 to the Mets, allowing one run on one hit and striking out one in an inning of relief.

Called on with the score tied 4-4 in the top of the ninth, the Phillies' closer served up a solo shot to Michael Conforto on the second pitch he threw. Neris has seen a heavy workload so far, appearing in 14 of the team's first 27 games, and he was pitching for the third time in four days Saturday. Despite the setback, he still carries a 2.13 ERA and 15:3 K:BB through 12.2 innings while converting five of six save chances to begin the year.

  • Edwin Diaz RP | LAD

Mets' Edwin Diaz: Secures third save

Diaz struck out two in a perfect ninth inning Saturday to record his third save of the season in a 5-4 win over the Phillies.

The right-hander continues to hum along. Diaz hasn't allowed an earned run in eight straight appearances, and he's struck out multiple batters in five of his last seven. All told, Diaz carries a 1.80 ERA and 13:3 K:BB through 10.0 innings while going 3-for-3 in save chances.

  • Trevor May RP | ATH

Mets' Trevor May: PIcks up second win

May (2-1) gave up a hit in a scoreless eighth inning Saturday to get credit for the win in a 5-4 victory over the Phillies.

The right-hander kicked off his namesake month in style, as he needed only 12 pitches (eight strikes) to retire the heart of the Philly order. May was rewarded with the win when Michael Conforto launched a game-winning solo shot in the top of the ninth. May has been as advertised after signing a two-year deal in the offseason to help solidify the Mets' bullpen, and he sports a 2.16 ERA and 13:2 K:BB through his first 8.1 innings with the club.

  • Jordan Hicks RP | CHW

Cardinals' Jordan Hicks: Managing forearm tightness

Hicks was removed from Saturday's game versus the Pirates as a precaution due to right forearm tightness, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

The 24-year-old is coming off Tommy John surgery in June of 2019, so it's not much of a surprise to see the Cardinals quickly pulling the young pitcher. Hicks' removal was labeled a precaution, though that doesn't necessarily mean he won't be forced to miss any time. The right-hander should be considered day-to-day until the team updates his status.

  • Jordan Hicks RP | CHW

Cardinals' Jordan Hicks: Exits with apparent arm issue

Hicks was removed from Saturday's game against the Pirates with an apparent right arm injury, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

The 24-year-old recorded two outs during the seventh inning before being seen flexing his arm after a pitch and subsequently leaving with the athletic trainer. The specifics of the injury remain unclear, and the Cardinals are likely to remain cautious with Hicks since he's only a handful of games into his return from Tommy John surgery in June 2019.

  • Patrick Weigel RP | COL

Brewers' Patrick Weigel: Rejoins big-league club

Weigel was recalled from the alternate training site Saturday.

The 26-year-old was sent to the alternate site after delivering two scoreless innings during his season debut Wednesday, but he'll quickly rejoin the club with Eric Yardley (shoulder) landing on the injured list. Weigel should fill a low-leverage role out of the bullpen for Milwaukee.

  • Rockies' Lucas Gilbreath: Earns another call-up

Gilbreath was recalled by the Rockies on Saturday.

Gilbreath served as the extra man for a doubleheader in mid-April but didn't get to make his MLB debut. He's up in place of Antonio Senzatela (groin) this time around, though he's unlikely to take Senzatela's place in the rotation, which isn't set to come up until Tuesday. Gilbreath was almost exclusively a starter in the minors, but he's yet to pitch above High-A and struggled to a 5.81 ERA at that level in 28 starts in 2019.

  • Alex Vesia RP | LAD

Dodgers' Alex Vesia: Back in big-league bullpen

Vesia was recalled by the Dodgers on Saturday, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Vesia spent one day on the major-league roster in mid-April and did not get into a game. He'll take the spot that had belonged to Edwin Uceta, who was optioned in a corresponding move.

  • Edwin Uceta RP | TB

Dodgers' Edwin Uceta: Optioned to minors

Uceta was optioned off the big-league roster Saturday, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Uceta made his big-league debut as an opener Friday against the Brewers but didn't make a particularly strong impression, giving up two runs on four hits over two frames. Alex Vesia was called up in a corresponding move.
